I wonder if endometriosis is related to those macrophages. Perhaps they indiscriminately attack the uterine lining, so that the body tries to build tissues elsewhere

grr it deleted my comment - it makes sense, because periods are the shed uterine lining that would otherwise be present during a pregnancy, and you do NOT want the immune system activating when there's a developing baby
