While this is titled Trails of Cold Steel/Sen no Kiseki IV, it’s actually the 9th game in the Trails series and relies heavily on knowledge from each and every one of them. Just playing the first three Cold Steel games is going to leave you very confused. The series was released in this order: Trails in the Sky FC -> Trails in the Sky SC -> Trails in the Sky 3rd -> Trails from Zero -> Trails to Azure -> Trails of Cold Steel -> Trails of Cold Steel II -> Trails of Cold Steel III -> Trails of Cold Steel IV The Sky trilogy is available on Steam in English currently, Zero and Azure are not officially translated but have fan TLs available online, Cold Steel I and II are available on PS3, PS Vita, Steam, and sometime this year PS4. Cold Steel III is releasing exclusively on PS4 Fall 2019. No word yet on Cold Steel IV’s translation, but it’s most likely already in planning.
@@ravus9935 Nah I haven't played the sky games and I understood the crossover stuff just fine. It all depends if you talk to every npc you learn about everything doing so. I learned about Estelle and Joshua and their group and some of the things they did. Of course if you skip sidequests and secrets you won't see any of this
From what I heard many characters reappear from the previous titles and I believe I heard that this game and the next upcoming one are tying all their stories together cause keep in mind all these games take place in one continent, though the games are separated by story arcs, they all play a part in a greater story and intertwine. Not just that, you are also missing investment in some of those characters and how they play a part in this story, keep in mind this is five games worth of story and character interactions you are missing out on. I understand if you aren’t a fan of how it used to look back then and if so I would either recommend watching the evo movies which basically skip gameplay and just give you the dialogue and story cutscenes of the previous games so you can have the investment in these characters and the story, it is a lot of videos though but it is fully voice acted (in Japanese) and I am enjoying it so far. If you also aren’t into watching a long ass series like that then I would recommend to at least watch the summary videos of the previous games, there is this one channel that made really detailed summaries that are more than enough to gain the understanding of their part in the story and what happened in Trails in the Sky 1-3, Trails of Zero, and Trails to Azure.
