  • This is a short video showing a backup power supply system with automatic switchover using the new "small generator". Also using this system to power 3 Auto Turrets now that they require electricity as well as understanding and use of the Auto Turrets new output signals.

    I am an electronics engineer (Head of Production at Zikodrive Motor Controlelrs) here and I want to add something.
    Although this circuit is way better than the vast majority of the circuits, it is not very efficient. If let's say, you have 800 power coming in from the wind turbines but the batteries can output 600, it will work on the wind turbine power however if the wind turbine power goes down to let's say 500, it will switch to battery power however, you're not using the 500 power from the wind turbines. That will be just stopped by the OR switch and you will always have unusued power when the power from the wind turbines is lower than the power of the batteries.
    I made myself a little bit more complicated circuit who would switch the output of the wind turbines to the power in of the batteries when the output of the wind turbines is below the output of the batteries. When the output of the wind turbines is above 600, it will switch everything to only power from the wind turbines which goes to a branch that will only output 600 of that power to the circuit and the excess power will be fed again in the battery therefore your circuit will be constantly powered by either the battery or the wind turbine and the excess power will be always fed in the battery, even when the power in of the wind turbines is below the power out of the battery.
    Your circuit is fine with solar panels because solar panels only generate power during daytime however, wind turbines generate power during night time as well. So it would be more efficient to run the circuit as much as possible from the wind turbines and not from batteries, to keep them charged as much as possible.
    Here's a screenshot of the circuit: i.postimg.cc/25xyMHMS/Screenshot-93.png
    On the left side, in the first root combiner noted as "baterie", you get all the power out from the battery to feed the circuit. It then goes into an OR switch and the output of the OR switch is where you connect your circuit, in this case "turrets".
    On the second root combiner, that's where you get all the power in from the wind turbines. You have to add extra 6 power to power this circuit. This circuit was designed for a 600 power output from the battery.
    From the far right and middle splitters, you connect the power in to the battery.
    You need: 1 x XOR, 2 x OR, 3 x Electrical Branch, 1 x Memory Cell, 2 x Root Combiners and, in my case, 3 splitters. The first splitter splits the excess/unusued power from the wind turbines in half and the other two splitters, splits that power in 6 since I was using 6 batteries for 600 power.
    You can set up the root combiners by following the added text in the screenshot.
    Give it a try and maybe, you'd want to make a video of this. I don't think this was done before. But please, if you do, just give a shoutout :D.

    What about, Having the generator as a backup? Imagine you have some solar panels as your electric source, a large battery for the nights and then some generators in-case everything else fails, example, you're in an online raid or something and they destroy your Sonal Panels and wait til your turrets turn off / the charge in your battery is low. Then the generators would kick in (Starting themselves with a small battery) to provide some extra time. It would be extremely rare a case where this is actually useful but I would like to see a circuit with that concept!

      Thx for watching, and sorry but I must be confused about what you mean. That is exactly what this system is. If main power fails for whatever reason the power from the small battery starts up the generator and it takes over. If you wanted to you could set up a splitter for the power from the power that starts the generator and run it to 3 generators or more, then root combine those generators before entering the orswitch. I mean this is the simplest setup but it could be expanded exponentially if such power requirements were necessary.

    So I just found this site rustrician.io/ which allows you to play around with circuit builds in rust. As such I'm adding the circuit builds for my various videos to the descriptions and pinning a comment with the links to them for you guys to make it easier to follow the build. Hope this helps and as always, thx for watching :)

      Thx for watching :). I'm sorry you feel that way. As a real life electronic technician I can assure you that it is very simplified for the game. That said I can see how it could be daunting to someone who doesn't know real world electronics. Personally I play 5x moded servers. I can't even imagine ever farming enough HQM that I didn't need in armor or guns to actually build electronics in Vanilla. I just don't know what they were thinking. I use to see auto turrets on every other base. Once they started required electricity I pretty much only ever seen them on my base. It would be nice if they had a way to blueprint a circuit and then build and place it all at once for later use. Maybe they will add something like that later.

    • @K162KingPin
      @K162KingPin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thx for watching, not a bad idea btw. Since turrets are so easy to destroy now with HV rockets maybe the has target output could close the doors in front of the turrets after 10 seconds or something. Plenty long enough to kill a target, but way to fast to destroy the turret. So has target starts a timer, 10 seconds later the doors close, then maybe 5 mins later the doors open again.

    • @K162KingPin
      @K162KingPin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thx for watching. To answer your question, sure just split all the wires going into and out of the single generator respectively and route to a second generator. You could use either splinters for this or electric branches. The splitters ofc cost more hqm and the electric branches would cost 1 extra volt each. Furthermore dont forget to increase the branch output on the branch to the left of the counter in the video as this will need increased to trigger the generators as well as supply the drop voltage to the additional splitter. And just to be thourough i.imgur.com/mnS0gLC.gif

    Would it be possible to only use a small generator for power? For example, I want to make a trap base and want only the power generator to turn on when the heart beat sensor is activated, that way it doesn't waste fuel and I don't have to have solar panels and a small battery. Are solar panels and a small battery a necessity to make that happen? If it is possible, would you mind making a video on it?

    • @K162KingPin
      @K162KingPin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Currently this is not possible sorry. The problem is that for the HBHF sensor to operate at all it needs to be supplied at least 2 volts of electricity. Now if you powered it separately say straight off a solar panel for example then the HBHF sensor could then be used to activate the generator by running the power out from the HBHF sensor to the "Force Start" on the generator. However there are several down sides to this. First there will be an inevitable lag time of a couple of seconds between the HBHF sensor picking up a target, the generator turning on, and whatever the generator is powering to activate. I don't know the time but probably between 2 - 4 seconds, which is a long time for things to happen in a trap base. Furthermore the generator is rather loud and the sound is heard through walls, which makes it less than ideal for trap bases because it alerts the would be victim that something is happening and they might get away. I recommend watching one of my other videos. It doesn't use the generator but its ideal IMO for trap bases. th-cam.com/video/hHjAEhFgg4c/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps, thx for watching.

      @@aleksandars91 Not sure what you are talking about? Does this apply to rust? This is a tutorial on electronics in the game of Rust. I have a degree in computer electronics in rl. Sadly Rust electronics don't follow real world mechanics. For example in rust you can't charge a battery and use it at the same time. Also in rust the only unit of power is volts. There are no amps in Rust like in the real world. I think it would be cool if there were but it would probably be to difficult for the average player.

    • @aleksandars91
      @aleksandars91 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@K162KingPin I have deegree in energetic in rl :) Where did you saw that power in rust is volts? In rust there is no Voltage or Current, only Power. There are 3 different power types in rl and for Rust we can say that we have Active power with units in 'W'. Before i have wrote 'VA' but for example in rust we have auto turret, for it we need to have some type of electric motor for which we need Reactive power. Telling that some component using power in V (Volts) is not correct, power should be VA (Apparent power) but for rust W (Active power) is good enough.
      Your videos are very good, keep it up and please correct this mistake.. :)
