    Even though this is a very clean, clever and elegant solution to power management and also a very good example of Rust circuit logic, I think there is a bit of overengineering there. What we want to prevent in order to not run out of power, the battery to be drained faster than is being charged. This is easily achievable by creating root combiners and adding a cheap new solar panel to the input stack whenever is needed. That been said, I think this is very applicable to a lot of other common control scenarios. Great video!

      Couldn't agree more. This video is long before you could recharge batteries properly. Back then the batteries could not be charged as fast as they discharge and rWm were not even a thing yet. I may need to start hiding some of these old videos that are not longer relevant.

      @@dallas-cole I have only taken down a few old vids and usually after I have the chance to replace them with a newer version. I need to learn how to use the links on videos more to keep these up for searches but link to new versions, that would probably be the best answer!

    Woooowww I was really building circuits for hours and hours and I never find a way to combine these fluctuating and unreliable windturbines with a battery backup because I used the very first branch the wrong way around....The answer was so simple but out of my reach because my brain still hurts from yesterday trying over and over to make it all work properly! I was seriously about to give up on windturbines.
    You sir are an expert and thank you so much for this tutorial!!!!

    Thank you, this helped explain a lot of questions I had. I’ve been playing rust for 3 days now and trying to understand the electrical theory of each component wasn’t very clear.

      this is not updated , before bateries couldn't charge up and give energy at the same time, now you can charge up without this circuit and still when it's night it will automatically use it's energy.

    Using wind turbines in this video kinda makes this circuit seem less essential.
    this setup is especially useful if you're running off only a few solar panels and you want enough power to run vital circuits during the night as well (especially the light).
    Because the battery will discharge at maximum capacity during the night, you need to put at least 33 power into the batteries throughout the entire day. This is because the night lasts 15 minutes on most servers, and the day lasts for 45
    if you're working with solar panels only, this is even higher, because they aren't crossing the threshold during dusk and dawn and your battery will have to work overtime. In a real world scenario, its recommended to put up to 50 power into your batteries while charging. This will usually last through every night and the battery is able to build towards a maximum charge over time.

      Wind definitely changes the intent here on the very low and and very high end. If you have a very low use circuit and wind power, you rarely even need the battery. If you have a very high use circuit, I'd wire the wind in a bit differently to help supplement the battery. I may show of a couple examples of that later. So many different options!

      @@Phydeau I totally agree with your comment and it makes much sense! But do not forget that wind turbines will not only recharge your batteries during daytime because it will produce power at night wich can fluctuate a lot unfortunately.
      Thats why we build in the configurable minimum power output of the first branch so that whenever the windturbine(s) fail to provide enough, the battery takes over at any time. Ofcourse solar panels are much more reliable/predictable when it comes down to recharging batteries, but with a very big circuit you need so many solar panels to keep up with the system requirements as they only provide 20 output voltage.
      And wind turbines may also recharge during the night so it is kind of just trying out what works best in any different kind of situation. I think a combination of them two is the best option so that the weather circumstances have the least impact on the system as possible.
      But you seem to understand the electrical system very well sir!

    If you put a root combiner instead of the OR switch then even when you'd drop below the set threshold then you'd be using the max the production outputs and you'd be minimizing the amount that is drawn from the battery

    for critical backup, yes this works... but you need double the power capacity (charging and batteries) to handle the same power draw. Example you have lights and turrets using 100, you would need 200 worth in...

      Rabid Rabbit Could I request a tutorial on a double batterybackup setup with the new settings? And would it be possible to add more batteries to the backupsystem? How much power would be required to power 15 turrets and batterybackup containingn 4 large batteries? How little power can you send to the batteries and still charge them?

      @@FrozenSpinnzzz as far as I know the batteries will charge faster when recieving more powr but any amount of power can recharge I think. But to combine this with multiple batteries you'll have to sit and wait untill Rabid makes the tutorial because I want to know myself too now!

    This is outdated now right? Was this from before you could charge and discharge at the same time?

      Yep, Jan 2019. It can still be used to save battery power, the newest version of the batteries don't require circuits like this anymore.

      @@RabidRabbitGamer I suppose doing it this way means you don't lose that 20% all the time, as you would passing all the power through the battery. I'm still not sure it makes much difference in practice though.

    In reality though you would just use the main power to charge the battery and then that would output to all electronics. In theory this is a good idea but overengineered which is something I like to do lol

    I would like to know how to make a circuit that when going through a laser is activated once the door and when they go back through the laser does not turn open. I'm learning a lot, thanks to these videos !!

      Hola Chuso! To clarify: When someone goes through the laser, the door will open, BUT if the laser is triggered again, the door will NOT open again. Is that your goal?

      @@RabidRabbitGamer No, the person enters through the door, activates the laser and the door closes. Then when I try to go through the laser again to open it I could not

      @@ivan-vt8fn If you want longer run time connect one battery to the next. If you want greater total power output, connect two batteries to a root combiner.

    If you run a parallel battery set up - do you run the output of both batteries into a root combiner then into a single blocker, or would you run both batteries into a dedicated blocker then use the root combiner.
    What is the best practice for this?

      The first thing after each battery must be the blocker, the root combiner acts as a load and would drain both batteries faster than you can charge them unfortunately!

      @@madcat9803 Sadly, "by design" the root combiners cannot be used anywhere except after a power source, so there is no effective way to create circuits with greater than 100 units from batteries (other than just temporarily by hand).

      @@RabidRabbitGamer yeah the fact that we can't place a root combiner after any component except for the ROOT source sucks! If root combiners were just 'combiners' then it would help us out so much. lol and I also think that the OR switch should block the lesser amount of power passthrough completely instead of still draining 1 from the battery for example. That way the OR switch could be our blocker function and we didn't need all these extra components to have a 24/7 circuit.
