With carrots is it true you need at least 5 to get viable seed, and you can't have more than one type in your garden or they will cross and probably end up not as good as each parent. Even with heirloom broccoli don't you need to grow like 15 to get good seed. With zucchini how long do you leave them before removing seed. Once the seed are sitting in fluid inside the zucchini, they don't seem to be any good
So far as carrots are concerned, no you don't need to let 5 go to seed. You can grow lots of varieties but only let one type flower and seed to ensure no cross pollination. Just harvest the other types. With brassicas you don't need 15. I usually have 6 or 8 growing but only let 2 go to seed. No problems yet. Cheers!
I’ve collected so many seeds from my garden. Not only vegetables but from flowers. I think I have about 5 bags of Silverbeet seeds😳 & another bucket to sort😒 Must have got the soil right👍🏼😉
Love the tips and education - thanks Vasili 🙂
