"that was pretty shitty, huh?" haha, little did Phil know that this would be just the start of one of the greatest indie-artists in existence.

i think he said "sounds pretty shitty" in regards to the distortion he just put on his acoustic guitar. And he's right it sounds perfectly shitty 👌

As a person who often plays in similar settings where a good amount of people are more interested to chatting then listening, seeing that this has happened also to great artists makes me feel a bit more confident 😁 thanks for sharing!

17 years ago I moved to Seattle from the Midwest, and one of the big reasons was the influence this album had on my life...lame thing to say online, but definitely true. Saw Mt. Eerie live in Anacortes for the first time in late 2005, and quite a few times over the two years after that. Now many years later, I have lived in Asia for a decade (really hoping to move back to the US soon) and definitely can still say this album has a profound effect on me and my artistic pursuits.

I miss these days. I can smell the beer sticky floor. The Need toured with Blonde Redhead that November. Forgot all about Battle Bots. They cancelled Strangers With Candy for that crap.

I listened your music the first time in 2002-2004 on a radio show from Chile called "Super 45". I recorded it on a cassette and then listened on my walkman on the way to high school. An analog time without youtube or spotify... Then downloaded it from soulseek (sorry, it was the only way). "The Glow pt 2" and "Don't wake me up" albums felt back then like a huge hug in the midst of so much loneliness, saying to me "It's ok to feel like shit"; I felt very very sad in that period, learning about love and heartbreaks, about how the world really works. That's called now containment. I'm 37, I listen to your music and I can connect with my feelings back, in such a vivid way. Thank you

Thanks for sharing Phil. It's really inspring to hear an artist I admire a lot in their kind of "awkward amateur" stage, makes me feel like there's still hope for me and fellow artists who are kind of figuring things out.

I was so excited to see this new-old footage upload, as an old school fan. When the video started, I was infuriated with the crowd's chatter. Soon, though, I was reminded of the Daoist absurdity of life, and how this rude crowd over this monumental song is actual PERFECT, by about the second stanza- "I took my shirt off in the yard. No one saw that the skin on my shoulders was golden. Now it's not. My shirt's back on. The Glow is gone...."
In short, this group of normies who showed up to a show to chatter instead of intently listening to the performer (which I'm proud to say, EVERY Microphones/Mt Eerie show I made it to in 2003-2010 had instead), their ignorance is PERFECTLY PARALLEL to the "No one seeing" the golden shoulders of Phil's lyrics.
Phil if you ever see this--your music has helped me through countless crises, especially recent deaths (which are always too soon for those who love the deceased). Even when people transgress against us, like the chattering Kentucky hipsters in this video, let's try to remember that this is a defining element of life itself, in its chaos and its churning. Phil's music has always helped me keep that in mind, and try to keep my head up consequently.

Nowadays people mostly tranquilized with phones. Lot of bars are/were like that though. They have no obligation to listen. You hypnotize them with performance.
