i personally have more of those moments with katakana, first situation that came to mind was at a Japanese supermarket, 「パンコーナー」, read it, then was like "wtf is pankoonaa" until i looked at the stuff under the sign and just face palmed myself. then theres occasional contracted/shortened words written in katakana, most of the time you get used to some cause they are used fairly commonly such as 「コンビニ」、「パソコン」、「サンド」etc. some of the interesting ones are words written with both katakana and hiragana, the first that i think most will learn is 「サボる」which most will learn is to like "to skip class" and is speculated to have come from the word "sabotage". other words will be introduced as a hiragana katakana combo but later turn into a kanji hiragana katakana combo, like 「けしゴム」ー＞「消しゴム」 the road of studying Japanese is long and never ending～
@@ritsuspendstoomuchtimeonth7907 like what 命 said, its "bread corner", so under that sign had a buncha different types of breads and bread products. convention wise, i typically add 「・」when separating words using katakana, unless its a set like 「パソコン」, which in my opinion helps non-native Japanese speakers. so in this case I would write it as 「パン・コーナー」 but thats just me, and i do more reading than writing (if you can call it writing by typing lol) nowadays anyways.
Being able to read all of these pretty much instantly, made me feel pretty good about my progress compared to 1 year ago... even though I'm still more or less at beginner level overall
I started taking Japanese 1 as a class around a month and a half ago, considering I haven't done too much self studying and was able to read most of these without too much difficulty makes me kinda proud of myself :D

Why don't you try to everyday doing a little of japanese exercise? With simple things in the day. For example: (I woke up at 6am) 今日は六時に起きました。 (My mother is doing the breakfast) 私の母は朝食をしています。 Now, I'll eat my breakfast (今、朝ご飯をたべます。) My breakfast was bread with coffee (私の朝ご飯はパンとコーヒーでした。) I'll go to the school (学校へ行きます。) I'll study. (勉強をします。) Really, with this simple things you will practice your japanese and then will feel that you are really learning the language, y'know? What I like to do, that I like too, is creating history, girl!! I'm doing such fanfic of my two favorite composters (リストとモ―ツァルト), now, our beautiful Liszt are learning えい語 by the the Paganini, annnnddd, Mozart likes Liszt, but he doesn't know how to confess to Liszt, Idk when this will happen (probably when my japanese came at least at N3 lol) Did you get the idea? The text could be just a simple one, just talking. When I read my first japanese text (that I used a lot of Google translate) and compared with this text that I'm doing know... I really can develop they relationship!!! Before I wasn't able to say simple things, because of that, they relationship was so cold, but now... Finally!! Mozart could call his love to a restaurant (LOL) poor guy ,__, Try to use what I said, you don't have to do complex things, what is important is using the language, focus on using the language, not studying several hours. My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

Thank you so much for making this! I took a break from learning recently so I wanted to practice and test my reading skills, to see if they've declined much or not. This really helped :D
A tip - if you are confident with the words but want to test your reading ability within sentences, make up short stories using the words, translate them (make sure everything is in hiragana), and then try and highlight the words in the sentences you recognize. Here were my stories, using every word in the 2-character hiragana section- I am in the house, in my room. It’s the middle of winter, and there is snow. I am reading a book with my cat on my lap. I see my garden outside, with many flowers, and a mountain in the background. It is summer. I am swimming in the sea. I look down and see an octopus. The sky is blue. I walk down the road. I am going to a store in my town. I arrive at the station and wait for my train. When I get to the store, I buy salt, a cloth and another thing. I then go and eat sushi at a restaurant, and also get a drink. I am writing a song. I get my paper. Another person is singing the song. They have a good voice and a pretty face. The song is about a tiger.

Omg just like me. 🤣 I started learning Hiragana/Katakana like 15 years ago and kept learning them over and over (it was fun while it lasted) and then I finally started learning Japanese properly about 3 years ago. Kanji is killing me everyday.
I've been trying to work on my pronunciation lately, so while reading these is easy enough, there were definitely a few I said completely wrong. Thank you for your clear and concise readings. It makes it easy to tell when I've made a mistake. =D
I had to pause it on a few of them, I panicked so much I didn't even get a second to celebrate on successfully reading the one before, but it was challenging and I had fun!
These are great videos. Forces you to read complete words instead of just letters. Best practice I've found for recognizing complete words, and you have to be quick about it.
I’ve been taking Uni level Japanese for a month now and was relieved to know I could read it all, even if I didn’t know the meaning of some of the words till they were given 😅
3 years of learning this is easy. Now kanji is hard because there’s so many different letters. It’s been fun learning Japanese. Still a ways to go for me.

@@_kiaz_ I've recently realised that it is a little silly to correct mistakes like that as I doubt its a mistake in their understanding, but simply a mistake with their fingers when typing
@@_kiaz_ as an example: its う not い 「ありがとうございました」(because you made an easy to make mistake of: 「ありがとい」considering う and い are next to each other on a keyboard, just like さ and ざ)

I use mnemonics to memorize these… Just think: わ (wa) looks like a tongue sticking out when the food is too hot so u go “WAA?!” ね (ne) fish in the NEt (the vertical stroke is a fisherman, the round part is the net and the circle at the end is clearly a fish) れ (re) REptile on a stick (the little tail at the end makes it look like a snake climbing a branch or smth) I know it might seem a bit of stretch but u gotta be creative here and for me they really work, the sillier the better haha Hope this helps!

There are 2 most used ways to write romaji, Kunrei system and Hepburn system. The Hepburn system is used in my hiragana lessons and it shows the pronunciation of ふ /fu/. So /fu/ and /hu/ represent the same pronunciation, but just the notation is different. However, the pronunciation ofふ is neither fu or hu sound actually. It is close to the sound with your upper teeth close to your lower lips and saying 'who'.
Just started learning japanese again and this helped a lot with recognizing the hiragana faster. I feel like my reading speed has increased with just one go of this. Thank you!!!

I acctually happy that I get to know half of the words of the meaning and I got most the words within three seconds. This makes me think that my effort is worth it. I had been studied for 4 months.
This randomly popped up and I managed to get all of the words that I've had cycled through my Anki deck at one point or another recognized instantly. Definitely the reassurance that I needed for all the hours of study that seems worthless at the time.
Actually, I'm not proud of being able to speak the hiragana, I'm studying japanese for already 1 year, so this is the expected by one year studying, but I'm proud to be able to understand the meaning of the words (before showing the meaning, of course lol) So thanks for the video 💟💟
For all the people just starting to learn Hiragana. Here is a tip: Learn it until you can point at it and take a few second to read it, then don’t worry about it too much. The more you go into your studies, the more you will see them. You will become familiar with them so much, in two to three months (if you study at least two or three times a week), that you could glance and read them. So don’t stress about it too much 😉

I started learning hiragana 3 years ago but stopped when I was about to learn Kanji. 3 days ago, i started learning again from the start, and i made 3 mistakes in this video. I think i did pretty well. Ill start using this everyday :) ありがどうございます！

I took 4 years of Japanese in High School and 3 semesters in college.... that was 14 years ago. I feel awesome knowing that I can still at least read the basics.

3 years of learning this is easy. Now kanji is hard because there’s so many different letters. It’s been fun learning Japanese. Still a ways to go for me.

@@_kiaz_ I've recently realised that it is a little silly to correct mistakes like that as I doubt its a mistake in their understanding, but simply a mistake with their fingers when typing
@@_kiaz_ as an example: its う not い 「ありがとうございました」(because you made an easy to make mistake of: 「ありがとい」considering う and い are next to each other on a keyboard, just like さ and ざ)

I always confuse わ, ね and れ
I use mnemonics to memorize these…
Just think:
わ (wa) looks like a tongue sticking out when the food is too hot so u go “WAA?!”
ね (ne) fish in the NEt (the vertical stroke is a fisherman, the round part is the net and the circle at the end is clearly a fish)
れ (re) REptile on a stick (the little tail at the end makes it look like a snake climbing a branch or smth)
I know it might seem a bit of stretch but u gotta be creative here and for me they really work, the sillier the better haha Hope this helps!

@@TOMOsensei Hi Sensei. Thanks for the response. I just have a question though: ふ from other YT videos says that it is pronounced Hu. Why is it pronounced FU here?
There are 2 most used ways to write romaji, Kunrei system and Hepburn system. The Hepburn system is used in my hiragana lessons and it shows the pronunciation of ふ /fu/. So /fu/ and /hu/ represent the same pronunciation, but just the notation is different. However, the pronunciation ofふ is neither fu or hu sound actually. It is close to the sound with your upper teeth close to your lower lips and saying 'who'.
Just started learning japanese again and this helped a lot with recognizing the hiragana faster. I feel like my reading speed has increased with just one go of this. Thank you!!!

This randomly popped up and I managed to get all of the words that I've had cycled through my Anki deck at one point or another recognized instantly. Definitely the reassurance that I needed for all the hours of study that seems worthless at the time.

Actually, I'm not proud of being able to speak the hiragana, I'm studying japanese for already 1 year, so this is the expected by one year studying, but I'm proud to be able to understand the meaning of the words (before showing the meaning, of course lol)

For all the people just starting to learn Hiragana. Here is a tip:
Learn it until you can point at it and take a few second to read it, then don’t worry about it too much. The more you go into your studies, the more you will see them. You will become familiar with them so much, in two to three months (if you study at least two or three times a week), that you could glance and read them.
So don’t stress about it too much 😉
