Thank you to everyone who is showing support and suggesting other games for a future video! If anyone else has any games they know of that they would like to see covered, let me know!
If you're looking for another obscure fighting game you should battle craze it's honestly really fun and has a pretty sizeable roster of characters each with 3 different variations to them
Have a look at 52BeatUp. It's got an early build on itch, but it'll likely release at some point this year with like double the roster and some new stuff added. I had a great time with it - it's got the 'roguelite progression' system from the game Points, but in a fighting game, so every round you lose lets you pick a whole aspect of your character to completely rework or new moves to access.
Hi there! I'm actually one of the devs that worked on Rainbowcore Hypernova, and i gotta say thank you so much for showing off the game! One thing that i don't know if you knew about the game's combo system that is kinda like the "main draw" of the combo system is that literally ANYTHING that costs meter can be canceled into anything else that costs meter, whether it be ex into ex or ex into super or super into ex or hypernova burst into ex etc. I do think its a bit silly that this concept isn't advertised more in game, but this alone can create some crazy combos. about the other concerns you brought up in the video, I agree with those points (especially things such as indigo's non-ex dp input as its effectively a filler move to include the ex version), though unfortunately fixing these issues isn't within my discretion. Overall though, I'm glad you had fun with the game and sent the vid over to the main dev!
I did notice that and in the clip where I talk about the install move, I show it off in kind of a goofy way. I probably should have mentioned it as it certainly makes things interesting. But thank you so much for your comment!!! it really means so much! Your game is super sick and if you guys work on future projects, you have to let me know.
Hi! I'm a tester for Duels of Fortune and admittedly I think you missed a lot of the game's mechanics, although the game doesn't exactly help a ton due to its lack of a tutorial. For example, Baron's 2[H] is a fullscreen, jump cancelable, and armored ground pound, so it's a huge threat to zoners, and Clyde's forward dash is a low profile as well as absurdly fast, letting him get through a lot of projectiles very well. Also gonna add that the missions mode has a lot of content to it with a bunch of unique fights and boss fights, alongside THE combo trials which can help you learn a character. Still, I'm glad to see it show up and it's always good to get feedback from a third party.
One of my only regrets for this video is not properly delving into DoF as much as I should have. There were definitely some things that I unfortunately missed.
the collab list dlc [which is free as well and that is pretty insane with the amount of work andrea put in] is an interesting list of other lesser known fighting games. I knew i was in for it when i saw the ultra fight da collab
The most interesting thing is thay Sylvan is probably the easiest of the 9 bosses in Duels of Fortune, the focus of it is in it's mission mode because of the lack of online. As for the baron vs Annie, he has several armor moves and a super which gives him hyper armor to get past zoning. And I'd argue it has a lot of depth because of the way OTGs work and the offensive burst resetting both your ground bounce, wall bounce and scaling as well as the air drifting allowing for combos that otherwise wouldn't happen like Shoto comboing from his DP super and Derrick for his unique aerial combo Rainbowcore Hypernova is fantastic and i can't wait for the sequel, and Head2Head's rogue like mode is amazing. There's plenty of other free fighting games for a future video like Tough Love Arena, Beatdown Dungeon: Demon Day, HyperFight. So i can't wait to see a follow up.
@@magariFGC I do understand the air drift thing but the game is actually fairly built around it or gives characters ways to deal with zoners or other forward moving tools as well to keep pressure on. (Annie is still one of the better characters though because of the stun grenade) but with this new update she'll probably be more easily to deal with since they'll be giving projectiles durability which means they can finally be destroyed. But in all, DoF is actually one of the better free indie games because you can tell they care about fighting games and have their way to express it.
Schwarzerblitz also seems like a good candidate for a video. There's also Ultra Fight Da ! Kyanta 2, but it's not that obscure (a bit more than 1000 reviews on Steam)
for some video feedback i'd recommend a lik bit of background audio (music from the game your talking about would be cool) as otherwise it leaves weird empty gaps where nothing is going, Video is great otherwise and im happy to see someone shining a light on lesser known fighting games
When I saw this video I immediately thought of Dual Souls the last bearer,a game with so much history of how it was creates that deserves his own video. Dual Souls is basically a mix of Guilty Gear, Samurai Shodown and a bit of Sf3 and another from mk , surprisingly with Brust, roman cancels, parry, guard cancels, recovery, universal Overheads and fatalities. The game is set in a realistic version of the Middle Ages, but with a certain fantasy too, complete with Templars and Ottomans fighting reptilians and a guy who for some reason came from modern Manchester (Yes, 21st century Manchester exists in the 15th century for a reason).
But about the story of how it was created, now that gets interesting. Dual souls is actually a remake of Slahers: The Power Battle, which is a mobile game that is a sequel to Dual Blades. Dual Blades is a *Turkish* indie fg released on the *gameboy advance* , and one of the 5 gba games with M rating. The game also have an Arcade, training, survival, score attack, time attack and a *combo challenge / tutorial for a gba* and *A COMMAND LIST THAT EXPLAINS ALL SPECIALS AND UNIVERSAL MECHANICHS* , something that other gba fgs such as ggx, sfa3 and tekken didnt had for the console (and even other consoles). About the gameplay most characters have simple inputs shuch as in Akatsuki, with them being quarter circles, down down, foward down and back foward (but they're not charge moves). The buttons are slash (kinda like a medium slash from sam sho, that you can do a 3 frame jab if you input foward too), big slash ( heavy slash, also grab foes if you press foward while close), kick ( a medium attack that if you input foward will be a 3 frame kick too) and the power button. The power button is special because if you tap two times you do a taunt that gains meter, and if you press power + slash you do an overhead. Also all supers are done with this button. The gimmicks of this game are pretty intersting too, let me explain. There is a parry in this game that works exactly like sf3, input foward before getting hit (that is called block, because the game calls standart blocking guarding for some reason). Recovery, the roman cancel is done by pressing both slash + big slash while perfoming a move ( and costs some meter ). The burst is called breaker and is done by pressing back + slash + big slash while taking damage (costs a full meter bar). You can dash and back dash by pressing one of the side buttons two times. Now the plot and characters are very unique in my opinion. The setting is a more *realistic take of the middle age* , but unhapply i didnt finished the arcade mode yet. The cast is composed of: Kanae and Brendan are the shotos with all the toolkit of one and command grabs. She is a samurai wanting revenge and he is an adventurer who loves danger (His motto is nothing venture nothing gain) and simps for all women in the game. Andre is a templar knight who is also a parry/ big body and maybe a grappler ( he is slow and have a follow up to his throw ). His taunt also throw a rose like dudley, and is a insanely good projectile. He fights to save his kingdom from the lizard people. Efe is an ottoman warrior and a zoner with his high low mixup of projectiles. He fights for Türkiye as far as I know. Rungard is also a zoner who cant dash but have a special teleport. He have fire, eletric and ice projectiles that give you unfair hit stun (he is a psycho who wants to destroy the world, thats it). He is based in a viking/ celtic sorcerer probaly. Shin is a rushdown zoner with the most damaging and safest projectile in the game, its insane diagonal range is impossible to jump or crouch over it. To his design he is green testament who uses crows who loves the blood of a slit throat and people screaming ☠️ (Not even The Boys have that shi ) Nagashapa is an elderly Mongolian sorceress and farmer, who give you all kind of curses like no jump, no specials and backwards controller. She uses ghosts for those attacks. And we have Jaman, one of the lizard man that attacks Andre's kingdom. He looks like a mix between an armadillo, akuma and blanca and plays exactly like those with the exception of summoning lizards for his attacks (also a 1 frame active overhead aimed at the foe). Well, that its Dual Blades for today. A lot of changes happened between Dual Blades and Dual Souls, but theyre all for better, like Ex moves, easier parry and a blowback guard cancel (Except for Kanae who lost her projectile and grab ☹️ )
Amazing that you picked up our game! Very valid criticism, WB will be nerfed, lol. We're also going to maybe change dashes to double tap so that back can be held to block.
Fun fact, the only reason wreckingball exists in h2h and probably also why he's broken is just because arcforged is a huge fan of mecha sonic, you can prove it by going to the other game he's made, the sonic fighting fangame sonic smackdown (which is also really good btw), where mecha sonic is like top 3, the most fanserviced character in the game with a bunch of smbz references and super mecha is the final boss of the arcade mode too
the second one being remote play only is a bit of a turn off, but head2head and rainbow look really cool! im noticing a similarity with the free games where they tend to be really simplistic, but these all look really interesting! think i might play orange since i love my puppets. overall really good video! your channel is really underrated.
Unfortunately the game was started almost 10 years ago and it's custom coded so it's basically impossible for it to be added due to it. It's why it's primary focus is on the single player content with mission mode and an upcoming story mode, and unlockable costumes for the entire cast.
As someone who peeks into the FGC and fighting games often, but is always scared to jump in (at obvious premium prices, character/season passes), free games like these would be great entry points for people like me. I hope you keep checking out games like these to give us newbies some more options other than the mainline games.
the problem with fighting games (same holds true for monster taming games) is that they take a lot of time to get good at. This keeps a lot of people from trying many of them. And thats a problem because these games are only worth playing if other players are also playing them. Why should i get an unkown fighting game if i'll have no one to play against? And lets say i do pick one up just because the art, lore, and music are good. Why should i play for more than a few hours? This is what happens with a lot of the more popular indie fighting games. Peeps buy, but dont play for long. which deters new players from buying since they see there arent much players online. A self fulfilling prophecy. P.S. Mortal kombat normalized fighting game bosses being unfair 😂 P.s.p.s i can tell ur a guilty gear or anime game player lol. talking about air blocking and stuff. I dont think it's necessary for DOF. There has to be other ways to get past those mines. Most fighting games dont have air blocking. Im sure the devs had some sort of counter play in mind
Rainbow Core Hypernova having high knockback when low health, reminds me of a platform fighter on steam made by russpuppy named "Time to Fight" that also has that mechanic, but the health bar turns red whenever there's low health, and the fighter takes seconds to stand up when that occurs.
as someone who has ~100hrs in duels of fortune, most of the zoning stuff was a skill issue , the real concern should be why mystery johnson has 40,000 dmg combos in a game where characters have around 25,000 health
these arent on steam, but id also heavily recommend touhou hisoutensoku or SCP cross containment. hisoutensoku plays really uniquely like a mixture between a bullet hell, smash, and a fighting game, id have to say its like the opposite of dbfz. SCPCC is like a halfway between mvc and blazblue, using SCP characters with pretty fun gimmicks and amazingly fun combos (and BANGER music/artstyle)
One of the most stressful and pressuring things about developing a fighting game is has to have a unique mechanic when almost every fighting game out there known or unkown has I'm not saying it's bad it's great to be unique it's just a little daunting to (to me at least I don't know what ya'll think). Anyways Great video for bringing attention to these really indie games it brings me a small smile to my face and your critiques are completely valid great video.
I played Head 2 Head before and I thought it was still pretty fun, even if sometimes the timing for combos can take while to experiment and learn (especially when it comes to the dash button) . I know the guy’s who made this also did a free Sonic fan game called Sonic Smackdown, and that one played like a 1V1 version of MVC 3 and that was what got me to discover this game for the first time. I think I remember them making a mew version where it’s gonna have roll back instead since the old version of Sonic Smackdown only had you using Parsec to play online with people. I would totally recommend trying that one as well since I remember I had a lot of fun playing it a few years back
Yatagarasu is a game pretty familiar to 3rd Strike, it had gained a massive cult following in the past from an IndieGOGO campaign, but is now in obscurity due to lack of development transparency, making the new release Enter the Eastward practically unknown to fans. I suggest you take a look at this game.
nah mortal kombat should have been seen. It's a huge influence to fighting games in general. Just cause you dont like the new one doesnt mean mortal kombat is bad
@@magariFGC mortal kombat is awesome. It's a celebration of 80s martial arts films and martial arts in general. Thats how it started and it really shows in the original arcade games and in the story animations, fighting animations and idle stance of mk11 and the new mk. oh my bad i just realized you might be saying ur grossed out cause of the gore lol. I thought you were being like the fgc sheep that just hate the new mk and saying ur grossed out because its "a bad fighting game"
Try vita fighters. For the most part it’s js already established characters tweaked a Little but it’s super fun with a great Roster and online coming soon
I mean rn a lot of indie games would probs be in a better state than some of the big 3 games 😭 (not hating on them or anything have so many hours on them since I first got into the FGC in 2018 just what I’ve observed from this recent triple launch the big 3 arn’t doing to well mostly MK1)

@@magariFGC oh nevermind, these are just color changes for characters. Ty so much for the rec, its probably the perfect game for me and im gonna get that one. Just in case do u know some others too? If not directly, irrelevant cus this is literally what i asked for. Ty alot ;)

They are all the exact same game but with different graphics… oh wait, that is just all 2D trad fighters, they are all the same game with prettied up graphics!
@@ArjunTheRageGuy visual novels, maybe, i don’t really play those but they do all seem the same. I’m mainly talking about all the 2D trad fighters. Tekken is an exception in my eyes, but games like guilty gear, street fighter, marvel vs capcom, king of fighters, they all may as well be the same copy pasted game format. I do understand that it is a format, but from game to game, not much changes besides graphics. This similarity can also be said about a lot of FPS games, but at least there is more nuance in FPS games than 2D fighters. Another exception for 2D fighters would be Smash Bros, it offers something actually unique to the table.
@@beans9872 I mean, the only visual novel I can think of that's probably unique is Ace Attorne cuz of that item selection thing, but even then, most of the time in the game involves pressing a button to go from one dialogue to another, so it's pretty much "cutscenes and dialogues: the game" to me when it comes to visual novels.
@@ArjunTheRageGuy yea I can see that, I feel similarly about Street Fighter. You walk on a straight line, jab, half circles, etc. There isn’t that much that is unique.

14:36 So i would say that its SNK that normalized fighting game bosses being unfair. Also thanks for showcasing these.
Ive played all of these and im glad someone else has aswell
just liked and subbed so glad u came up on my recommended, super fun watch im def gonna try these out w some friends tysm!
Glad i found you subscribing i would love to see more videos from you like this.
One of the most stressful and pressuring things about developing a fighting game is has to have a unique mechanic when almost every fighting game out there known or unkown has I'm not saying it's bad it's great to be unique it's just a little daunting to (to me at least I don't know what ya'll think). Anyways Great video for bringing attention to these really indie games it brings me a small smile to my face and your critiques are completely valid great video.
if no unique mechanic, just cool visuals and music would suffice
Vita fighter is a next game i spent way more time playing than i thought i would
thank you for the suggestion!!
Head2head has my favorite designs out of the 3
fresh FGC content?!?!?!?!?
liked, subscribed and random comment to help with the algorithm.
15:01 The mask skin has insane aura
I don’t remember if it was free or not, but Schwarzerblitz is fun
I played Head 2 Head before and I thought it was still pretty fun, even if sometimes the timing for combos can take while to experiment and learn (especially when it comes to the dash button) . I know the guy’s who made this also did a free Sonic fan game called Sonic Smackdown, and that one played like a 1V1 version of MVC 3 and that was what got me to discover this game for the first time. I think I remember them making a mew version where it’s gonna have roll back instead since the old version of Sonic Smackdown only had you using Parsec to play online with people. I would totally recommend trying that one as well since I remember I had a lot of fun playing it a few years back
I played Head to Head offline in a booth the devs set up at a con, it's a very fun game with a really cool concept
oh thats awesome
I would love to see you make this a series. Kinda like iron pineapple
i very much want to do so. it’s just a lot of work. but i fully intend to anyhow
@@magariFGC fuck yea
Aint no wae. SOL DUST LOOPS
Yatagarasu is a game pretty familiar to 3rd Strike, it had gained a massive cult following in the past from an IndieGOGO campaign, but is now in obscurity due to lack of development transparency, making the new release Enter the Eastward practically unknown to fans. I suggest you take a look at this game.
that's very interesting. I will be considering it for the next video!
can you do more content like this? this was awesome
fight theme from etherena beta @4:40. immaculate
w video i installed all of thease and play them with my dad
Ultra Fight Da ! Kyanta 2 is the best free fighting game on Steam!!! You have to play it.
NO SCHWARZERBLITZ????
no mention of the mision mode for duels of fortune?
someone else mentioned that too. i should have played that but ultimately i did not
@@magariFGC it goes wild. also i love how the protagonist is basically just order kyo from snk
i love while talking abt the fgc in the intro, Mortal Kombat was nowhere to be seen XD
honestly i'm super grossed out by MK and I kinda forgot it exists since I avoid it as much as I can
nah mortal kombat should have been seen.
I thought you were being like the fgc sheep that just hate the new mk and saying ur grossed out because its "a bad fighting game"
no yeah i have no opinion on the gameplay itself. i'm just very sensitive to gore and therefore do not play it lol
@@magariFGC yeah my bad
so what was that song used in the head 2 head combo reel?
The Lily of Steel from Guilty Gear Xrd Sign
i like how duel fighter’s O is just a copy of Q from sf3
Duels of Fortune is nice
not one mention of ultra fight da! kyanta 2 😮💨
maybe next time lmao
The best fighting game is minecraft competitive bending
real as hell i was a chi blocker main
Try vita fighters. For the most part it’s js already established characters tweaked a Little but it’s super fun with a great Roster and online coming soon
hell yeah
Someone send this to coney
Dnf duel doesn't hold back
ever tried hisoutensoku?
just looked it up, I have tried a Touhou fighting game but I am not sure if it's that exact one.
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE ANIMAL FIGHTING GAME
Btw cool channel
wtf does charge mean in supernova😭😭
I mean rn a lot of indie games would probs be in a better state than some of the big 3 games 😭 (not hating on them or anything have so many hours on them since I first got into the FGC in 2018 just what I’ve observed from this recent triple launch the big 3 arn’t doing to well mostly MK1)
i wouldn't know lmao. guilty gear is the only one i keep up with
Can Lethal League really be called a fighting game?
Yes
@@magariFGC I’d expect no less from a Strive fan.
part 2
👇
it’s coming 🙏
PLEASE TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOU, i am curious now
like what lol
@@magariFGC why is your name just the word "maybe" in italian? what's the lore?
its my favorite word! it technically doesn't just mean 'maybe' as it specifically has a positive connotation, more like 'hopefully.' (I'm a linguistics student in college and I'm also studying Italian)
@@magariFGC so it's like "ojalá" in spanish, wich means something like "if God's willing"
@@magariFGC I KNOW IT IS, I'M ITALIAN THATS WHY I ASKED!! us italians are EXTREMELY prideful of being represented overseas it's like in our blood or something
i want a game that is free or atleast no paid dlcs and stuff. like i hate buying a game like street fighter but u aint get all champ? where is the balance of the game then? also i dont want a game where there is like a mario and a donkey kong from other games that literally do the same things like shooting fireball....thats not balanced. i come across 1 game but that was idol showdown what i found out later its about streamers. its still good but not really my game. also i dont want it to be completly old that noone knows it. it should have like a small community atleast. i did sign up for riot games 2xko...wish are characters from lol, thats what i dont really like, but riot games makes it still good cus of the mechanics they include. like thesy made heartstone better by adding more mechanics. 2xko will be the best game so should i just wait or does anyone know a good game? i like the games in your video, but as u said, they are simple compared to others....i mean im not good at these games too, but if i sit there and learn a game, i want it to be the perfect game.
also i really like deathstalker 3 but its old so idk
Pls recommend games to check out, tell me as many as you want
have you considered guilty gear xrd rev 2
@@magariFGC arent there on steam 2 version, 1 deluxe version with additional
characters?
@@magariFGC if not im gonna get that game right away
@@magariFGC oh nevermind, these are just color changes for characters. Ty so much for the rec, its probably the perfect game for me and im gonna get that one. Just in case do u know some others too? If not directly, irrelevant cus this is literally what i asked for. Ty alot ;)
@@xzarexx4543 accent core is also really good and still to this day is the preferred guilty gear entry for many, blazblue centralfiction (except for 1 or 2 dlc characters). Most Arc Sys games that are like 10+ years old don't really have DLC and still have decent communities
They are all the exact same game but with different graphics… oh wait, that is just all 2D trad fighters, they are all the same game with prettied up graphics!
wouldn't the same be applied to other game genres like visual novels?
@@beans9872 yeah kinda sucks tbh but it is what it is, I guess
