Never been there (yet) but I love that they have a law, that You HAVE TO keep your care clean and pretty, if You want to drive it! I would DEFINITELY own a carwash in Belarus 😁
@@G-Man1115 Business in Belarus is poorly developed, much worse than in Russia. Belarus is a semi-communist country where the private sector is severely limited. The number of cafes, gas stations, hotel, carwash, etc. in Belarus will be less than in Russia and most likely less than in the whole of Europe!
Never've been to but definitely want to visit, one of the reasons being specifically to have a gastrotour😄 They're cooking slavic tradional food in an authentic and very tasty way)
I'm also a Scot, but living in Slovakia. We were in Belarus (Minsk, Vitebsk and Brest) for a couple of weeks two years ago. We had to obtain a visa from the Belarus embassy though. There was no visa-free option at that time. We absolutely loved Belarus. We fell in love with it as it seems you have. So clean, so safe, flower displays everywhere you looked, all exquisitely well tended, great food at low prices, and so many aspects of life that had disappeared in the West or were rapidly disappearing. So many families, people well dressed, no graffitti, no litter. For us it felt like a paradise, safe, tidy and in Minsk especially very modern with beautiful malls, museums, and architecture. We long to go back. If you are reading this and wondering whether you should take a look at Belarus, or at least Minsk, don't hesitate, go! You'll fall in love with the place too and... probably will not want to return to scurvy old UK or the degradation seen increasingly in the West. It may well feel like coming home in fact, the home you have longed for. We hired a car in Minsk to travel around, to Vitebsk and Brest. It wasn't simple for us to do it but I lovely lady working in a lovely, modern petrol station in Minsk helped us. We got a great cheap offer from a company called 'rolls-rent' (rolls-rent,by). They delivered the car to us where we were staying and came and picked it up from where we were staying when we were done. All by mobile phone. (You can get a cheapo almost banger from them if you are a bit short of cash - the gears may be a bit ropy but it'll get you there... or pay for the very modern cars they also have for hire.) Airbnb doesn't work in Belarus but Hotels.com worked perfectly for us, and apart from hotels they also have Airbnb-type apartments. We stayed in a beautiful, ultra clean and comfy little apartment in Vitebsk at the princely sum of 18 euros (equivalent) per night (!) Go to Minsk. Go to Belarus. You'll love the place!
The cheapest way to get to Minsk from Moscow is by train. There is a fast train Lastochka. The Lastochka runs daily on the Minsk to Moscow route. It makes 3 stops on the way and covers a distance of 751 km in 7 hours. The ticket costs about 3000 Russian rubles it's about 28 Euros. The train is clean and comfortable and has a trolley service that sells snacks and drinks.
Hi Jim, as a fellow Scottish guy, who has been to Belarus 17 times and has friends in Moscow I love watching your videos. As a Scottish guy you can go visa free to Belarus over a land border for 28 days. I look forward to your Minsk video in the future. Lang may yer lum reek :)
Well, visit Grodno and Brest in Belarus, take your time about a couple of days in each of these, you'll not regret that, considering quite a lot of museums. Take a note of Brest fortress museum, that could tell you something, I suppose.
I said the same thing when i was in Minsk a few months ago….this is a mini Moscow and even more Soviet! I have a multi entry Russian Tourist Visa so in theory i can go to Vilnius, jump on the bus to Minsk and continue to Russia. I would need the Belarus border control to issue me the migration card. Ive also just manage to purchase on the website of rzd a ticket from Moscow to Kaliningrad. Leaving on Saturday evening so hope its all mint 😀
PLS make videos about Minsk. When I visited Minsk in the 70's I felt lost. Many HUGE empty places, much wider than those in Moscow I guess. Almost only new buildings, blocks made from concrete. Have in mind Beloruss republic was almost entirely destroid by German Wehrmacht during WWII. Belaruss was the region the poeple did the strongest resistance movement (Partisans) in the back of the frontline. The NAZIS burned many villages down to the ground, killed MANY poeple.
I would love to visit Minsk. Thank you for the direction. Love you, Lucashenko! I like that it is a mini-Moscow. I had never heard that or the recommendation to start in Belarus rather than Russia. For young men in the West, it's time to consider our options.
If it finally happened, it would be great indeed. They announced this visa thing several times before, but it never came to an effect. When you check, please let us all know if it finally works! :) Thanks for video!
Great channel Jim always look forward to watching your videos. Thank you for your time and effort. If I ever get the chance to visit Russia I'll definitely hook up with you.. ally from England/Leeds
Thanks for the interesting video! ❤ Actually I never was in Belarus, but seriously planned to move from the EU to Minsk during the pandemic terror in my country (and in almost the whole world). Belarus was the true oasis of freedom and human rights, so I was going to sell my real estate in the EU and buy an apartment in Minsk. Since the "pandemic" unexpectedly terminated in February 2022, these plans remained unrealized. Nevertheless, I hope to visit this country. Long live Belarus! ❤
Transfer to Istanbul, Tbilisi, Baku or Yerevan. You can also come from Poland or Latvia by bus. There is still an oasis from the war of Internet censorship and non-working bank cards of Western countries!
I would like to add that citizens of all European countries can enter Belarus without a visa, including through the land border, but the rules of the countries are different and if you come to Belarus without a visa, you will not be allowed to enter Russia. All Europeans need a visa to Russia! It is illegal to come to Belarus without a visa and from there to Russia, even if you pass through no border control somewhere. You may face a prison term for coming to Russia without a visa! This is valid only if you have a classic visa from one of the countries!
Russia and Belarus are basically a de facto single state at this point, pretty much like England and Wales. Citizens of either countries can freely move, work and live in either side of the border.
Yay that’s great to hear! I am Russian and would love for my American husband to meet my relatives in a Belarus village close to the border. We usually cross the border by car. I’m very excited that next time we go to Russia to visit, we can make a quick trip to Belarus without any hassle ✊
I was trying to go to Brest Belarus. I tried to fly from Moscow but I needed the Belarus visa. It took me 3 days to get the proper visa from the Belarus consulate in Moscow.
Since July 19 last year, Europeans can enter Belarus without a visa through the land border! Are you from Europe? But the British need a visa to Russia, and only a regular one, not an electronic one!
1. Britons can come to Belarus without a visa and across the land border. 2. Western bank cards Visa and Mastercard work in Belarus, unlike in Russia. 3. There is less Internet censorship in Belarus, all major Western resources will work there without VPN. 4. Belarus is an absolutely safe country, you can safely walk anywhere at 2 a.m., unlike Russia and especially Moscow, where there are a lot of migrants.
So the big question is now if a western person with a Russia visa can enter Belarus and then go from Minsk to Moscow and back again... in a motor car. The questions I have are whether or not any car insurance purchased in belarus after I cross the EU/Belarus border will be valid in Russia and if and how I will need to buy medical insurance for Belarus. The Russian embassy in London don't care that I don't have medical insurance for Russia so I don't buy it.
@ If you are not going to Belarus for a long time or permanently, you do not need to buy medical insurance. All emergency care is free there, and if you get a toothache, the treatment won't ruin you. It's better to clarify the rest. The stamp on crossing the border of Belarus will also be your entry stamp to Russia, only in Russia you must have a Russian visa with you. There are very long queues at the Brest-Poland border. The queue at the Belarus-Latvia border is the least.
