    As a follow up if these arrows get more target/field considerations because of Dave Cousins's win at the 2022 World Field Championships, the TKO version of the VAP is larger due to a thicker wall (hence the higher GPI). I would recommend using the VXT points as they will either be the same or slightly larger OD which beats being under OD. You may be able to use Easton 4mm points but check the ODs of the respective arrows. For reference, I use VXT points in 400 spine FMJ Match arrows, and the ODs match extremely well.

    New Victory VXT stainless steel points are perfect match for these arrows. And I like VXT shape better, they are not as pointy as VAP points.
    My field/target setup is VAP TKO 350 Gamer (.003") at 29" with 150 grain VXT SS points, Victory pins, GT Mini HD nocks and Bohning Air vanes, for total weight of 440 grains.

    Great review and timely. Just ordered a new bow, Shootdown, and was debating staying with the VAP's or order a new set of Easton's X23's. After this review might have to look at the TKO's.

    I'm no top level archer, but experienced & have been around for decades , still very pleased with my Victory VAP V1's for compound target archery. First time I still have an original dozen arrows after months of shooting them; maybe that says something about their durability ? I'm using pin nocks & 120g points.

    Trying to decide between RIP XV or VAPs for double duty arrows for 3D/Outdoor. What I really want is 3 sets of good arrows Indoor/Hunting/Outdoor+3D but the Ol Lady's wrath would be severe.

      TheIngoBeck dont buy xv’s. They are frail as FU**!!! I absolutely regret buying them. The normal rips are strong as advertised! Ill try the vaps also.

      I bought 38 of the 3dHV in 700.
      I got 5 Dozen of TopHAT points for them.
      I also got 8 Dozen of the TopHAT Protector Ring, and 4 Dozen of TopHAT Superlite Pin Bushes.
      I tested out just 1 Dozen of the Victory R.I.P. points too. The Victory points are a flawless & perfect fit for the 700 3dHV. NO LIP IN EITHER DIRECTION. When I fit 6.30 Protector ring to front of shaft, I need the perfect fit of TopHAT point #1 (slx) to get NO LIP. I haven't shot them yet, but

    • @Australian_Made
      @Australian_Made 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ... that's Protector ring for 6.2mm to 6.3000mm Carbon Shaft diameter. They have a 6.76mm outside diameter and they need a larger point than the Victory R.I.P. 3dHV of .245". They chamfer too, so allow point size from .262" to .267", and TopHAT SL-X points are intended for .265".
      I got 5 Dozen SL-x points so I could 'snap off' weight to try out 10 grain changes, 120, 130, 140, 150.
      The original part Victory points have just one single 'snap off' 30 grain weight change at 120 & 150. The remainder weights are 20 grain change, for 100 then 80. I thought maybe I might need to start @ 150 and next 140 next 130?? That gives 16% to 17% f.o.c.

    • @kalumeet1

      I use the TopHat Points 120 gr. and result in roughly 12 - 15% foc.? Together with Bohning "air" vanes (low prifile) they group and fly amazing. On a good day they will stay mostly inside the X and 10 at 50m WA. And the lost points at 3D caused by my mis-judged distance is nearly "zero".

    I shoot V-Force for compound 3D and VAP Sport V6 for recurve. The V-Force are far superior to the Easton Powerflights I started with. You can't go wrong with any of the Victory lineup. Just be sure to follow the spine guide to help you find the right spine and you will do well.

      @@PUREMEATPURSUIT vap tko elite is an arrow i use for white tail. It is micro(.166). I use the stainless steel outserts. And it has the ceramic coating making it easy to pull out of block style targets. Overall exellent arrow. It works great for western style longer distances as well, i originally purchased it for western style shooting. Now using it on the east coast. Arrows are really sturdy, can be reused many times over for hunting. Only minus i see is the lack of strong lighted nocks. Because of the micro diameter, I suspect the thinner diameter of the nock with its electrical conductor embedded inside becomes weaker and for shorter distance shooting at game or target the arrow takes more energy on itself because of the shorter flight and this energy is streesing the lighted nocks. In my case the victory brand lighted nocks were bending. Nockturnal nocks seem to hold out ok for now.

    Hi Steve, I can't help but point out that including Easton X10s as a comparison against budget all carbon arrows is somewhat out of place, or are you comparing them because of the standard they have set on the world scene? I would have thought Easton Carbon 1 shafts would have made a fairer comparison as they share a number of similarities to Victory arrows and maybe even Carbon Express Nano's as well. In any case I'm always interested in what you do. Good vid, Cheers 👍

    • @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale
      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree. Carbon One is a budget Easton Carbon Shaft. For Gold Tip Pierce Tour are the top of the line, for Victory VAP is the top of the line. The purpose of this video is to look at the TKO on weight comparison and see if at distance the TKO will have less wind drip than VAP and be comparable to an X10. In wind drift.
      Standard on World Stage. Roger Hoyle from the US shot the world FITA record with McKinney carbon. If you make World stage then you are given X10 or Carbon Express. If you thought X10 where significantly better than Carbon One then you would shoot them.
      I assume you shoot Carbon One because they are more durable? Price? I you consider X10 or Carbon RZ better then on a 720 round how many points do you think they are worth.
      Alex Wilfle says there is no difference in his Black Eagle to X10, Kevin Wilke from Gold Tip claims his Pierce shoot the same as X10.
      I certainly would not see anyone standing on a Carbon one between two chairs to check strength.

    • @theconcourseapprentice2451
      @theconcourseapprentice2451 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm unsure why you disagree that the Easton C1 would not be comparable to those shafts, they are at roughly the same price point, all carbon and share similar physical attributes to VAP/TKO's. Although C1's don't come in a spine stiffer than 410 (but I wish they did) they are still 8.5 grains per inch which again is comparable.
      X10's on the other hand have a distinct advantage due their sectional density which is term for a weight/diameter formula to calculate ballistic coefficients and wind drift tables. The short of it means as heavy as possibly, as skinny as possible and as fast as possible is what beats wind drift. So with X10's being a smaller diameter and the same weight they will perform better ballistically.
      So with that in mind you are on the right track testing the TKO's but I would be reluctant to suggest that they would match X10's for wind drift however I would be fascinated in a true ballistic test being conducted to find out.
      I wonder if a drag race would yield meaningful results... chrono from bow and chrono at a 50m target, measure velocity decay, calculate ballistic coefficient...
      And yes, to clarify I do shoot Easton C1's because like yourself and many other archers cost becomes a major factor when choosing an arrow. I also have continued to shoot C1's to prove that 700's were possible with them and yes they have performed really well for me in extreme conditions. The TKO's I speculate there will be little difference but again I'm interested in what you are doing.
      So will I shoot an X10? Maybe one day, but how much of it is the archer rather than the equipment?
      Oh and will I stand on a C1 between 2 chairs.... well they are only a 410 spine and I'm 90kgs before my morning coffee so maybe I won't :P

    I’m torn between the regular VAP gamer or the VAP TKO sport. Should I really worry about the .006 tolerance? The only thing holding me back on purchasing the sports. I will be cutting my own arrows and using them for long distance 3D shots and hunting 30 yards max. Any thoughts on what I should do?

    • @liamboyle9199
      @liamboyle9199 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am a year late BUT 6 thou arrows can be VERY good if you make them up with a bit of skill. Some of my best or even my best target and field rounds were with GT arrows in a 0.006 straightness with screw-in points. Would I recommend them for people with long arms, but only if you're on a budget. The main way to make worse arrows better is to cut them down as much as you can. Tim G at GT says and take with a pinch of salt in case it's wrong, and that you can bump arrows up a grade by cutting them down. This can definitely be achieved if you spin each arrow and note where the main cut must take place. Although I never did this with my GTs and they were still great plus you run the risk of making cutting mistakes when you start doing a bunch of different cuts and there is a chance your dozen may have fractionally different lengths.

    How is it possible you shoot at your level both compound and Olympic? I can't imagine to switch from my recurve barebow for one training and than come back.

    • @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale
      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think one helps the other. The Recurve improves aim and builds back muscles. Both use slightly different muscles. When I shot compound I have pains in the lower back and shoulder, the recurve did not bother those but I got knots in the shoulder blades.
      Alex Potts won the Australian Nationals with Compound and Recurve the same year.
      With compound you can become trigger happy with the recurve you need to aim and aim.

    Hi Steve.
    I'm interested in comment about heavier arrows for target, lighter for 3d. As a newbie I would have guessed those disciplines would have required similar arrows. Can you elaborate a bit please?

    • @ObelixCMM
      @ObelixCMM 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually lighter arrows are used for "unknown 3D"
      You have to guess the distance to target, so you want fastest (lighter) arrow you can get to reduce error in guessing distance.

    Hey Steven, quick question for you.
    Brand new to archery and looking to buy a new set of shafts (the arrows that came with my bow aren't consistent in length by more than an inch). I was originally looking at FMJs or carbon injexions, as they have great reviews as hunting arrows but found your review of these. I then found a website selling the TKO sports for $60/6 fletched, which seems like a great price.
    My question is, is there a reason I couldn't use the outserts that come with them for target? Then I could remove them and put in broadheads for hunting? Or is it significantly better to have two sets of arrows, one with target points and one with broadheads?

    • @goory93

I like your Ballista, although I don't care to own one. Good Video. Why do you care about speed so much, it's momentum you need to be concerned with. If you shoot alloy and you hit it it breaks. Try standing on a FMJ. FMJ are good for pulling out of hard targets, hunting and normal work but they cannot take what carbon takes.
      Thin walled carbon arrows will crack when other arrows hit them.
      But please shoot some FMJ into one another and show. To start with the arrows would blow because no pin system to protect the back from arrow strike.

    • @imtrashmyguys1612
      @imtrashmyguys1612 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you do know that fmjs are carbon wrapped with alloy right? Victory is the most common aroww found broke next to the targets at my local 3D range!?!

    • @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale
      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As soon as you have alloy then the arrow will break when hit with another arrow. You can not stand on a FMJ arrow between 2 chairs. A set of FMJ arrows would not last me 1 week with tight grouping.
      For 3D where you shoot 1-2 arrows you are not going to get arrow damage through impact.
      For 3D you want a faster arrow where the Victory 3DHV comes in and lighter carbons. These arrows are not like the TKO or VAP.
      Further on this point when I shot X10's alloy and carbon I broke 4 on the first day, Through arrow impact. When I shot alloy arrows I would go though 1dz a month.
      The Victory arrows VAP's Im using I have not broken any.
      FMJ is not a target arrow - if it was they would have target points. FMJ is designed for people wanting the alloy with carbon advantage. So stronger than alloy yes. But you still crack alloy when hit.
      If you like your FMJ then that is cool, I have many archers who like FMJ. Some hunters like them because they eat the meat, some target archers shoot them because it is easier to remove arrows from targets.
      This video is looking at the TKO arrow a super strong hunting arrow and suggesting a may be a suitable arrow for target archery due to the weight.
      On you last point I do not believe any TKO arrows are broken on you local 3D range. On my video on VAP you can see a VAP arrow stuck in steel and the arrow was fine. I don't think anyone thinks FMJ in steel would be fine?

    • @imtrashmyguys1612
      @imtrashmyguys1612 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes 3D here is in the woods and alot of targets are setup so you only have a narrow window to shoot through so arrows hit limbs and trees a lot and victory is the most common arrow found broke sorry the proof is in the pudding
