i never thought ariana would be bad but i didn’t think she would be THIS good. she was just phenomenal. cynthia of course to no one’s surprise was also incredible. they’re the perfect casting.
I have the same mindset as you. Ever since 2018 when Ariana sang The Wizard & I, I was hoping just as a fellow ‘93 baby theatre kid she would be part of the Wicked legacy in some shape form or fashion. For Cynthia, it was Harriet that motivated me to want to see her as Elphaba. In particular it was the gravitas that proves key. Just the movie itself was a bit more than I hoped for.
I did not know that, thank you! I've only seen her display her comedic skills on SNL, she is very, VERY funny - has a tremendous sense of humor, for sure!
I love that all the effects are practical. In the sense that they cost a fortune and took months of work to build, but like... they're REAL. I love the choreography of these scene and all of Glinda's gizmos- they play up her opulence and fussiness/spoiled nature, where the musical just had to be like "She has lots of shoes and Elphie has almost nothing".
You know when you walk out of a movie and someone asks what you thought? That was the first (honestly, maybe 2nd) thing I said about this movie. The costumes and set design were top notch. Perfection, I would even say.
Miss Grande is hilarious and adorable. Wasn’t a fan until I saw her obvious comedic timing on SNL. Found out from my much younger coworkers that she’s a Disney/Nickolodeon kid.
I'm in no hurry (because I want to see it a bunch more times in the theatre😊) but when the time comes I will be shelling out for the 4k DVD box set with every bell and whistle there is🎉🎶 This movie just makes me HAPPY. And I'd seen Sam and Cat, it seemed harmless but didn't indicate the sense of comedic timing that Ariana Grande would acquire over the years. If you know Madeline Kahn or Barbra Streisand's work in comedy and musical comedy - well, that's the last time I saw such amazing performance on film. Chef's kiss, this is a great treat.
I was nervous how Ari was going to hit the high notes. But her costume and comic timing just helped nail the song. Her desire to get the role right shows!
It was good, but Goldblum was a casting mistake and the cameo by Menzel and Chenoweth was stupid and cliche. Grande exceeded expectations. Erivo is SPECTACULAR.
You clicked on a video called "Anatomy of a Scene" and are complaining because it delivered? How could you see things that he described that weren't visible?
If only men factually worked on this aspect of production...then you wouldn't mention women or enbys that didn't. I don't see how that's controversial.
@richardtylee could you imagine black director on Crazy Rich Asians... Or an asian director doing black panter. Shang Chi by a latino. Namor didnt get a solo film. Latinos only make up 48% of LA. #culturalapartheid
@@winst2000 No LMM is also a very good director. Tick Tick Boom is arguably a better adaptation of a stage musical than Wicked. Also arguably had better directing. I’m not saying that Wicked is badly directed and that it’s a bad adaptation. In fact, it’s really great! It’s just that Tick Tick Boom surpasses it a little more.
You can pretty much say that about anything you have to spend money on. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of things you enjoy that I can say "Just imagine if we used those wasted dollars for the homeless". It's such a stupid argument.
Ah yes, systemic homelessness solved by less than a hundred million and a half dollars. It's not like we have a government that spends that much on stamps in a week.
We aren’t sure which “chick’s face” you don’t want to see in Hollywood movies but you’d be better off just deleting this comment. Nothing but unkind and with 0 constructive criticism. Just calling somebody ugly is… very ugly in itself 🥱😒👎🏻
So, we must see this movie, because it has some technical tricks, like a rotating chandelier. This is so stupid. This movie is failing in the box office, although they spended as much money in marketing, as they spended in producing it. It's gona a be a big "box office atomic bomb".
The budget for Part 1 was $145 millions and the movie has already made $194 millions worldwide and has yet to be released in a lot of countries: France, China, Japan, etc. So it will actually take a while to see the real impact it has and how much it could actually make. For now, I think it looks like it could at leasy make a profit.
It's already made about $359 million worldwide and it will continue raking in money for the months to come. Not to mention the fact that it's most likely going to get nominated for a bunch of Oscars. So this sucker is going to have legs. It will probably make over a billion dollars when all is said and done. That's marvel superhero type box office numbrers.
That's not even what anybody said in any way shape or form. This is a Behind the Scenes breakdown of a scene from a movie. That's it. Something interesting for people who liked the movie to also watch. You have it exactly backwards. Please stop listening to TH-camrs griping about "wokeness" and "broke"...ness. The movie was the best selling musical adaptations in US history. The fourth biggest globally. It's sitting at nearly half a billion worldwide in its third week. Ragebait content creators are making you make fools of yourselves for no reason.
Ariana has so much charm in this role, and she is hilarious, saw Wicked opening weekend and knew I had to take my 7 year old granddaughter, two of my sons went along, and my youngest son was laughing so hard at Ariana in Popular, he loved Ariana’s fun crazy stunts and choreography, the chandelier and swanning around Elphie, it was such a wonderful experience. My dad died early am, on the day my sons and granddaughter had our date set and it really helped me to have that wonderful movie distract me from my grief.🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚

@ thank you, it hurts really bad, lost mom March 19, 2024, my dad 12-11-2024, then just found out my husband’s and my favorite friends, Sherry and Jerry, who helped us all of 2024 on our road trips to Southern California from the San Juan islands of Washington and Canada, are facing end of life stuff, Jerry has incurable cancer of the spine, Sherry said the average life span after diagnosis is 86 days and Jer is in his 85th day, I mourn my parents death, but I knew they would die someday and it’s best they are now together, but Jerry, neither my husband or I can fathom this. My nephew watched Victorious and iCarly constantly growing up. I remember seeing her and just be mesmerized. She has raw talent, you can't deny it.
Ari is a master of physical comedy.
Was playing in a comedy show from 2010 - 2014.
She does have years of training.

VicTORious ❤
@@kgreene460 "Victorious" & "Sam & Cat"
They were her first big acting roles post broadway.
Then her music blew up big.
Her comedy mixed with her beautiful voice and face makes me just love her 😍🤩
I need some behind the scenes of all those suitcase mechanisms
there actually just Caboodles.
On my god fr! HOW TO THEY WORK😅
Ari's physicality in this movie was actually what surprised me the most! Her beats, pauses and tempo were just so meticulous and impressive!

"their first date, should i say" yes Jon 😌✊
Ariana was the perfect choice for this role. She nailed it in every single scene, Cynthia was terrific too. Amazing movie.
Miss Grande is hilarious and adorable. Wasn’t a fan until I saw her obvious comedic timing on SNL. Found out from my much younger coworkers that she’s a Disney/Nickolodeon kid.
I like bit of her songs. But it was her as Penny in Hairspray Live that made me want to see more of the theatre kid side of her.
Google Victorious, Sam & Cat, and/or Cat Valentine(especially if you have Paramount +). You're welcome.
She was on Broadway before she was on Disney/Nickelodeon, so it all comes full circle.
I need a complete breakdown of everything in this entire 7 minute scene on a micro level PLEASE
I'm in no hurry (because I want to see it a bunch more times in the theatre😊) but when the time comes I will be shelling out for the 4k DVD box set with every bell and whistle there is🎉🎶

Jon, the master of choreographing each scene
Christopher Scott is the choreographer, Jon tweeted about him :)
Their work in Jem and the Holograms was horribly underappreciated

I don't care what y'all say miss grande deserves a Grammy
Aaaaaaargggh, I'm listening to a legend right here... 😮❤
Excellent director, I love GI Joe Retaliation!
This movie is actually his most top tier work yet!
I can't be the only one expecting: IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'M GONNA SWING FROM THE CHANDELIER, FROM THE CHANDELIIIIIIIIER. I'm frustrated.
Ariana also had a song with Mika called "Popular" with similar lyrics 😅 must've been a lot of pressure for her
That’s one of few reasons I had faith in her to get this right
I just wanted to see the song again! No commentary!😅
Saw a sexist hater say Ariana can't act lol. She's amazing at what she does. Like sure a director knows nothing and a random IG user knows best lol
Sounds like some meathead who wouldn't know acting if it smacked him in the face. 🤣
what song ?
Ariana grande ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ariana Grande is simply scrumptious 😋
Haha! So adorable! Funny bones! 😅😮🙃
If you put Popular in the video title this would have far more views…
Saw it TWICE

Yes I picked this vid to hear talking through most of the scene as if I’m blind
You clicked on a video called "Anatomy of a Scene" and are complaining because it delivered? How could you see things that he described that weren't visible?
I love how only men work on the crew of this. Only men are behind the scenes. 🙃

Why do people always like to pit them against each other? They were equally amazing. They both had moments to shine. Just be happy with that.
I mean, this is Ariana's song. There's another video on Cynthia's song...kinda how it works.
Why didnt lin Manuel direct ?
When LMM produced In The Heights for film, he chose Jon M. Chu to direct.
