  • Going out into the middle of nowhere is always enjoyable, but that doesn't mean you can't bring along some gear to make it even more enjoyable. On this episode of Overland at Home, we’ll show you how to make a one of the first overlanding mods for any rig: a DIY off-road hot shower for when you need a nice hot shower in the middle of nowhere.
    Instead of giving you just one option, we’re showing you two ways to make a working shower that attaches to your rig. The first is an ABS pipe shower that uses compressed air to shoot out water stored in an ABS pipe at pressure, and the second is a hot shower with infinite water that uses a water heater and pump to pull up cold water from a source, like a river, and spit out infinite hot water for the most enjoyable camp shower experience ever.
    ABS Pipe Shower:
    For this project, you’ll need a 4-inch wide, 5-foot long ABS pipe to store the water, and two end caps to hold all the parts you need to for pressurizing the water and letting it out. In one cap, fit a PSI gauge and spigot for the water, and in the other, fit a compressed air valve. You should only ever fill the tank to 35-40 psi max.
    To attach the end caps to the pipe, clean the ends with a clear pipe cleaner, and then glue them together with ABS cement. Make sure to coat the inside of the cap and not the outside of the pipe to give it a cleaner look.
    To fill up the pipe, hook up a hose to the spigot and open up the compressed air valve. Fill the pipe up until water comes out of the valve. Then, all you have to do is attach an air pump, fill the pipe until it’s 35 psi, and you’re good to go!
    DIY Hot Road Shower:
    This system is all based around a propane-powered hot water heater and a 12-volt water pump. The pump pulls the water up out of a source, like a river, and the heater warms it up, allowing you to have warm water for as long as the propane and water source last. It’s important to put a wire mesh over the intake for the water pump to make sure that nothing harmful from your water source gets into the pump and heater.
    To make this setup looks sleek and hangs on the side of our rig, we fit everything into a Pelican case. This meant cutting some holes in the side of the case and putting heat-reflective coating near the heater’s exhaust.

    Good and simple idea :) but... just to be safe, i would have put a pressure safety valve into it so you can never fill it above 40psi.. or when water temp rises it can blow off build up pressure.
    and for next version.. put the pressure gauge @ the air inlet :')
    and for option 2.. what about battery change hatch... would be a hassle to get the thing out just to change batteries

    I am going to build the tube option. Do you travel with the tube full? Do you feel the Quick Fist straps are stout and sturdy enough to handle the tube being full on the rack should there be a quick stop?

      Check out the channel Revere Overland. He does the exact same setup and gives a parts list and links. Hate posting that on someone else's channel but its been over a year and no list.

    Sure would be nice they actually provided the parts list for the "Camp Shower 3.0". This build seems easier than the one from Revere Overland, but that one also provided a detailed parts list with links.

    OK ... how do you fill the ABS pipe shower if you’re out in the boondocks and don’t have a water source with a fresh water spigot? Asking for a friend! 😝

    • @Nathan-yp8fc
      @Nathan-yp8fc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best thing would be to have a T pipe with a large opening. This would allow you to refill while remote and it would allow you to properly clean the inside. Image the random person who did not fully dry the inside before closing up for storage or did not store full of clean water.

    But that pip holds barely and water? At 4"x5' pipe is like 3.3gal of water. Are you pumping water into it from another tank? Shower heads are 1.5 to 3gpm. At best you get a 3min shower. Some figures would be nice. So 3 pipes ~10min shower. :)

  • @mansoorahmed3918
    @mansoorahmed3918 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There is no way to fill it on the trails due to design limitation i.e. need pressurized water source to fill the tank.

    Nothing new on the actual shower tube been around for years just use a bike pump
    If you want rinse dishes just use the hanging water bag like the platypus and gently squeeze the mouth piece and you’ll get great rinse with so minimal water ... no compressor no roof tube ... save it for the shower

    Hello "slave of God", just thought i would let you know that its missing (unsure of the term) punctuation. It needs these dots over som of the letters. Should be, δούλος του Θεού 😉 Also the "θ" you have is a small one, not capital. As in English, so in Greek, first letter in God is written with capital. Cheers
