  • Prather War Bowie 2021 Review from Tops Knives || Best Survival Knife.
    I have lots of different fixed blade knives, but the Tops Prather war bowie has become my go-to knife not only in the woods but in daily life. I review this knife while learning to make friction fire.

      I edc the Prather War Bowie. Rear scout carry iwb at about 30 degrees. Don’t even know it’s there most of the time.
      My favorite fixed blade knife is the TOPS Armageddon. I got Leo to smooth down the little finger choil on the handle, and it’s amazing how comfortable it is to wield.

    Got mine. Almost perfect. Couple of things....
    1) Thick black asphalt finish was stripped away.
    2) Blade is now gun blued for some rust resistance.
    3) No more Piece of Sh.... nylon sheath. Got a nice black leather one for it.
    Upper rear of the handle flares out a bit. Don't like that. But it's very minor. So, I'm leaving it alone. Personally love the Rocky Mountain tread on the grips. Own other TOPS knives with those grips. Genuinely surprised whenever others complain that it's too aggressive.

    Great video! It looks soo much better without that black coating on the blade. I've never used paint stripper. Can you go into more detail on the process and what you used to remove the coating? Any tips? Thanks!
    Also, did you make any changes to the handle? Yours looks black. Was it originally grey micarta?

    • @camunltd
      @camunltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For sure. I had basic paint stripper from Home Depot. I unscrewed the handles grabbed a baking pan and coated the blade with a brush on both side. The paint will start peeling up, then I used a wire brush to brush the paint off. If I Romberg correctly I had to apply one more coat to completely get it of. After that I washed it with soap and water. Then used the same baking pan filled with vinegar and let that blade soak over night. The thing was jet black at first but after washing it with soap it turns grey.
      The handles start out gray but over time they get darker from use. Must be my grimy oily ass hands.

    I wanted a Bowie-style knife for a long time, and I enjoy owning things when I know something about the maker. Jeffrey Prather has an interesting podcast and a Patreon account. He is not a knife guy. Prather's bona-fides are combat, covert ops, law enforcement and unapologetic Christian faith. A commenter on another podcast said the Prather War Bowie is for processing people, not wood, so that's a little creepy. Every time Prather mentions the knife it's sold out. A few weeks ago I did an Internet search and found it on sale at TOPS! Needless to say a week or so later Prather mentioned his knife seemed to be sold out-again. I like the TOPS molle sheath because it's accessory pocket just fits a diamond sharpener like the one shown in this video.

    I do like this nut slicer, and believe I may get one to see if it will work for me. I'm very particular with my gut stabbers. One question I know you stated if some ass hole decided to pull a knife and intends on clipping your man hood, or giving you a tag on the toe, you would haul ass, but let's say hauling ass was out of the question. You would feel confident in pulling out this backward slasher? Anyhow just wondering, but good vid 👍. Last question, when 2 guys decide they wanna kill one another and they both pull blades, one is your everyday Joe and never been in a blade fight, and the other dude is a wanna be bad ass and believes he's one fucking hard blade sticker and Braggs about being a hard ass, which one will get cut?

    • @camunltd
      @camunltd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that everyone gets cut in a knife fight. One dies then and there, the other dies on the way to the hospital. But what do I know. I think this knife might scare a mofo away if they see it though, so thats something. I think from a knife fighting perspective. a traditional bowie would be better, more forward weight and having those big guards would protect your hand way better.

    • @camunltd
      @camunltd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is probably true. However I was able to prep a load of fire wood including chopping, batoning, and feather sticking, then make a spindle, bow, and hearth board without sharpening the blade. That is reasonable to me. But I'm an armature woodsman so I'm sure I'm missing something.

      If you are in the field long enough you are going to have to sharpen the knife anyways.
