The de engine is very underrated; sure, an hr is the better engine and it will respond better to boltons, but the de will still win plenty. So many butthurt kids in the comments complaining about which car should've won, but they overlook the fact that the driver will generally determine who wins the race
You're absolutely right. 75% of the ST drivers I've watched race on youtube don't know when to shift their cars. It really does matter because with the right driver a stock ST can break the 13's and would definitely beat a stock 350z from rolling starts every time.
It's not only driver U hinder performance when u upgrade wheels for "looks". Not saying there are quality aftermarket wheels, however, the increase in rotational masses hinders your rolling capability
Very even race! But if you post a run...its pretty nice to have a mods list to be able to compare the vehicles. But I can tell you from experience, if that Z lost those monstrous wheels and put on something lighter than factory, it'd edge out that ST. I am currently looking to find some light weight wheels for my FBO/Stage3 2016 ST. Light weight wheels make a HUGE difference when two cars are that close...literally a few lbs at each corner would be a win or lose situation here.
Driver mod in the 350 helps... even with an automatic haha (although z took the hit every time after driver swap) but, the ST definitely suffers from heatsoak. Both cars ran well though. Good runs
Damn is crazy how big of a difference there is between the DE, Revup and HR. Especially automatic. I have raced 2 Focus ST’s On my 06 Revup G and the races are not even this close. The first one a 2017 with Injen, lightweight wheels, toyo proxes and a tune. This one I beat by more than 4 car lengths touching 115. The other one a 2014 almost full bolt on, all he had left was the Intercooler and a tune and he was 2 car lengths behind me touching 95. I honestly don’t get it. I have much respect for ST’s but it just doesn’t make sense to me. All I’ve done on my G is put a k&n filter, test pipes, y pipe, take the spare and jack out and falken azenis tires.
The problem the 14 had based on the mods was the garbage stock intercooler and no tune. You can go full bolt ons on an ST and you'll (unfortunately) see zero gains in performance as the ECU will correct anything you throw at it to stay within the factory torque targeting parameters. A tune is mandatory for seeing any increase in performance on those cars.
@@breezy9x43 DE is good for turbo because is the cheaper motor and if fail and breaks less to cry. Forged and well tuned is a beast like any other motor. Rev up never like me because is the cars with oil compsumtiom and runs similar to DE whit a good plenum spacer. Hr is the best motor with a good top end and its expensive and rare to find so its better remains NA or use FBO. I didnt say is bad for turbo but i for me is a crime dismount hr to put a turbo, for that use a DE.
MElekiaZ yea man but that n54 is crazy when it comes to making power. I’ve seen some people running fbo and E30 making 500whp on stock turbos but I think I may go 6266 single turbo on my 335is

LOL actually the 350z was a TON OF FUN for me.... I could turn the VDC off and actually drift.... on stock suspension.... Now with my Focus ST I can't drift at all BUT I just got a rear sway bar installed and it's AWESOME... lol either way both cars are fun. That 350z sounds automatic though.....and in that case I don't like it
I just think the Z33 was a failure on Nissans end. They drift ok. But I'd rather have an S13 to drift in. They're comfortable cruisers in the vein that the 3G Eclipse GT V6 was. At least the ST is engaging to drive. The 350 had to have its nuts revved off to get any power, and even then its acceleration was unimpressive.
Before the Z I had a s14.... fixed the suspension up on that quite a bit.... my stock Z was better handling than the s14 I thought anyway.... I also didn't have a LSD so maybe that was a big part of it too. The Z gave a bit more power than the KA24 motor gave me of course to break the back end loose.... If I got ANY Z now a days it would probably be a 370z :b i love all the cars we are talking about though! The ST sure is fun to drive especially fully stock looking Stage 3 ;)
Interesting, I'm honestly surprised that your S14 handled worse than your Z, though the S13 handled better IMO. To be truthful though, a S cars are somewhat rickety. What year was your Z? If I was looking for a Z, it would be a very hard choice between a 370Z or 300ZX TT. Last time I drove a 350Z was in 2008, I test drove the 2008 HR Z with the 6 speed, the salesman was my friend so I just flogged the shit out of it. Found it somewhat slow, but to be fair, I had just riden in my friend's bone stock 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 that same day, we went to the track and he ran a 13.21@103.4mph *with me in it*- so, after that, obviously a Z would feel slow. I was driving a FBO Golf R32, and his stock VR-4 gapped me consistently, it dynod at 292 @whp, those 6G72-TTs were highly underrated at 320hp, they made more like 353hp at the crank. I never won ONE race against that damn VR-4 until this year, and my 2018 Golf R only wins by half a car from a dig until150mph, and I have the DSG R. Damn those VR-4s are fucking fast, SMH, 20 years old and gapping FK8s... ANYWAYS....I liked the ST very much, have a friend with a Stage 1. Very engaging to drive. I'd much rather get a used ST and mod it than get a 350Z and mod it. Actually, I think I'd rather get a 3000GT VR-4 and mod that - but I already have an AWD performance car, and I'm VW biased.
Jonathan Pontel The focus is turbocharged. So Tuning it can result in big power gains of 30%+ easily. While tuning a naturally aspirated car like a 350z you'd be lucky to gain 5% power. After this the focus probably has more power than the Z.
The lesson to be learned here is. Never underestimate any car. And driver is the most important mod you will ever have. Period. The baddest car on the planet is complete trash in the hands of the inexperienced. Put the experienced behind the wheel and watch magic happen.

My friend with the HR ran him again from a dig, same results. They did a 40mph roll, VR-4 was 1/4 car ahead at 100mph. Anyways, my friend ended up getting a 370Z with the 7 speed auto. I just bought a bone stock 1994 3000GT VR-4, always wanted one. I ran a 13.09 @ 103.8mph with balding tires. NO HR Z is getting close to that - my friend's 2008 HR I was talking about ran a best of 13.61 @ 105.3 mph, and that was with FBO.

it's a torky boy but looses to wheel spin. stock turbo kinda sucks at high end. some really sticky wheels should help.
