    The first production did ship with load lifters. Initial samples that were photographed and shipped to various reviewers did not have load lifters - the final production with load lifters wasn't photographed to update media images. Check out the Chase Reeves video where he points them out at 7 minutes and 35 seconds.

    • @Jedwoods

      this is true. The few reviews of the first version (mine included) won't all show load lifters because they were an addition during the Kickstarter campaign; most of the samples from pre-KS were missing them.

      Thank you for that info. I could have sworn they did have them. I thought I remembered seeing them on Chases video when I had watched it way back when. But man... I can't bear to watch his videos any more. He annoys me to the point of anger. I should have just asked Jed, I know he has a 1PR bag. That's on me for not being thorough.

      @@jeffgrantMEDIA This may be one of the primary points of confusion regarding the first production pack. I've seen it come up a number of times in various forums. Had the media images been updated (the epicenter), the ripple of confusion that still exists today may have ended long ago. Thanks for your reviews. 🙂

    Super review. I’ve lusted for this bag. Heard that straps are stiff, not cushy enough. The laptop compartment concerns me, seems like it wasn’t designed with as much care (maybe he wasn’t expecting it to be main focus, like a lot of hiking packs). I also can’t get a handle on the height. I have a short torso (17”) and I’m 5’6”. I know the maker is about my height (though I don’t know his torso length). For me, anything longer than 18.5” is pushing it even 18”). It looks great on you but you are taller and seem to have a longer torso. I keep going back and forth…still, great looking bag. Thoughtfully designed.

      I think the straps are just fine. But I've been on a GORUCK kick prior to the past few bags I have been reviewing. And anything after a brand new GR strap is a dream to wear! haha. As far as the laptop sleeve goes, just being a durastretch pocket isn't anything new for the EDC world. Look at the CPL and CHZ series from Evergoods. They are EDC focused and only offer a similar laptop sleeve.
      I am 5'9" with a torso length of about 20". That is a bit abnormal for my height, which is normally around 19". But the bag fits me really well. It appears to fit Phillip well in the photos he has posted. I doubt he would have designed a bag he himself could not comfortably carry. But at $400, it's a big risk if you fear it might not wear well on your back.

    Owing both versions I still like the look of the X51 over the EPX600. Also the first production does have load lifters. Reviewers like Carryology and The Perfect Pack I believe received pre production models before they were released to the public.

    • @jeffgrantMEDIA

      I was informed of the load lifters. That’s on me. I know several people with V1 and I should checklist asked them. Some early review samples disks have them, including the bag used for images on the website.

    Great review. I wonder if you've seen (or tested) the ATD1 by Attitude Supply. There seems to be some crossover, and I'd be curious to know your thoughts.

    • @jeffgrantMEDIA
      @jeffgrantMEDIA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Really like the look and design of the ATD1. But the size is way to large for me. I know it can be really compressed to make it EDC size, but I’ve never been ready to pull the trigger on that bag. To costly if I don’t like it. The ATD2 looks interesting, but i prefer the Alpha over the 2. Maybe I’ll try and get one second hand in a year or so.

    I’m in the market for a new hiking pack. What are your current favorites? I find the Alpha 31 really comfortable and would actually considering using it for hiking but want to keep it clean for travel use.

    • @jeffgrantMEDIA
      @jeffgrantMEDIA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My current day pack is a matador beast 28. I carry for myself, my wife, my 3-year-old and a dog. When it’s just me and the pup I have a dagger 22. But I’m going to sell the dagger, as I don’t like swapping out all the time. It’s actually a great day pack, but I’d rather just haul the extra liters than swap from bag to bag. I don’t mind swapping out my edc all the time, but my daypack is a little more dialed in. And I prefer to keep the organization as is. I’ve also found the Mystery Ranch In and Out 19 and the 2DAP to be great day packs. I stupidly sold my In and Out, but the tri-zip of the 2DAP wasn’t for me. Tried a few different size packs, and I can’t jive with it. Amazingly comfortable though. I am trying a Ultra Pink Gallagator as beach/pool bag, and it actually working great in that application for me.
      An honorable mention is the Evergoods MPL 30V1. I did use that more as an EDC pack, then as a hiker… but it works really really well. With the changes that they made for the V2, I think that would make an excellent day pack. And it was actually in the running for when I bought the Matador Beast. The beast just happened to be on sale at the time. So I got it for a really good price and that’s why I went with that bag.

    Hey, thanks for the review, i know you dont have your arch bag anymore but would your input which one you prefer over the other (your previous arch vs RE Alpha 31)

    • @jeffgrantMEDIA
      @jeffgrantMEDIA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say for a 1:1. The alpha. The way the straps for the roll top are better on the alpha. They don’t go into the pocket. This was an issue with the arch, as it made a water bottle get hung up. I also prefer the durastretch water bottle pockets on the alpha. Though Andrea is now offering this on the Arch bags. He just hasn’t done it yet and was honest about it to me. He wasn’t sure he would be able to pull it off clean. He has now mastered it. Amy am a bit torn between the sausage pockets and the durastretch front pocket I had on my arch. I love them both, and I don’t know which I prefer over the other. I do however prefer the full zip opening on the alpha. But i preferred the dual mesh zipper inner pockets on the arch. Though I built up my arch to resemble an alpha (because I never thought a V2 alpha would come out), they are both different bags. And I enjoyed both of them. If you want something a little different, custom and unique, Arch 100%. If you want something super cool, useful, and don’t want to wait a few months, Alpha all the way.

      I am not a fan of AirPods, so I don’t know how large the case for them is. But there is ample room in there. So they should fit.

    May be impossible for you to answer, but have nobody to ask. Will the bottom (I mean inside of the pack) fit two Peak Design Small Packing Cubes vertically (same orientation as org kit are attached). Compressed dimensions are 32cm x 17cm x 8cm (12.6" x 6.7" x 3.1"). They should, theoretically, but I have no real idea.

    • @jeffgrantMEDIA
      @jeffgrantMEDIA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say for certain, as I do not have the PD cubes. But I can fit two Skinth Pound cakes vertically side by side inside the pack with room to spare. they are roughly the same size. They are only about 10" in length, but the bag being a roll top, height isn't an issue.

    • @denis-kravets
      @denis-kravets 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffgrantMEDIA yea, I don’t worry about the height. Just the pack is tailored, so was worrying, that there won’t be enough space at the bottom.

      I think you should be good to go. But packing cubes aren't ridged, so you will have some squish to work with. But the Pound Cakes are about the same depth and width and I don't have any issues.

    • @denis-kravets
      @denis-kravets 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffgrantMEDIA I totally agree with you, just after packing to the brim they are not that squashable anymore. And those packing cubes give me a good understanding of sizing.
