    Totally thought you will just shut the go pro off for the VO2max testing, but noooooooooo.....
    Man, that's awesome.

    Great review, thanks a lot! I have a question regarding the polar-flow running programs (they call it "event-program") - is it built or getting updated according to the running tests?

    Congrats on the 60k subs bro!!

    Kofuzi love your work man. By the way, Jack Daniels formula is vdot , not vo² max , that's why the numbers is more faster than your actual capabilities . Cheers from Portugal

    The tables in Jack Daniels' Running formula indicate what a 56 VO2max athlete has the potential to run, not necessarily what you are suppose to run. There are other physiologic variables that have a greater impact on what you run, such as lactate threshold, running economy, etc.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great clarification!

    • @briantambourine5375
      @briantambourine5375 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kofuzi I'm not an expert on the Daniels VDOT values but I don't think they are meant to be equivalent to VO2max. Your VDOT value is supposed to be determined by the actual times you've achieved in one of the distances in the VDOT table. Then use that VDOT value to determine your training paces.

    • @pininh0
      @pininh0 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@briantambourine5375 the VDot tables are referring to the VO2max in 1 minute (that's what the dot means - prof Jack Daniels himself has some videos on youtube where he clarifies this). So, VDot - the maximum amount of oxigen you can use in one minute, or what we commonly just refer to as our VO2max.
      When you run a 10k that is equivalent to a certain VDot (or VO2max for that matter), let's say a 56 Vdot performance, you will likely be able to make similar performances for shorter races (although not 100% guaranteed, but very likely) but for longer efforts that may not apply due to other limiting physiological parameters (the referred lactate threshold, running economy, etc). In his book running formula he even advises athletes that get their Vdot from 5k or 1mile races and want to train for a marathon, to start a training cycle with training zones that are 2 Vdot values below their achievement in the 5k or 1mile race (if you run a 56 Vdot 5k, start training with 54 Vdot training zones). It's a very instructive read that Running Formula book :)

    I’m terrible at targeting a specific tempo pace... IMO, SL20s are hands down the best bang for your buck. I have more expensive shoes, but these are probably my favorite

    hi,
    Been following your channel for last month or so and ordered a janji running satchel thank to you and your review.
    I have a vantage V. do you think its worth it getting the V2? only thing i really like is the music controls which the original V lacks. is the newer Vantage mkii worth the money to change up?
    thanks

    10km in 37:30 is basically two 5k in 18:45 back to back. it is quite fast. Edit: but it’s 11min slower than Joshua Cheptegei... Just as a perspective :)

      if we are to believe all the grumpy running commenters out there, if i had a flashing light to pace me, i'd be able to run that too

    • @RunnerRemRem
      @RunnerRemRem 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      kofuzi well if you were to wait for me at the end with an ice cream cone, I wouldn’t need the light to pace me either.

      been waiting for amazon to have stock of the 745 in black, but it's been sold out since day one.
      however, considering how frequently i get lost, i'm thinking of bumping up to the maps of the 945

      kofuzi that’s ture lol it’s out of stock ... but it’s in stock in Garmin’s official website... yes the 945 would be better for maps and battery 💪🏻.... good luck 👍🏻

    How does the polar model compare to garmin’s? Are the Vo2 max values similar? I assume their models have different assumptions.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't done a cross-brand analysis of VO2 extrapolations. I would defer to DC Rainmaker for something like that

  • @whybi

    I understand the V02 max test is supposed to give a more accurate reading on a flat so maybe the little bit of your downhill course may have played a part in giving you the higher V02 max reading?

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be. But that is the longest flat that I can think of around here. Might have to find a track next time.

  • @SolarReannex

    Thank you for your tests! So, just to confirm your setup:
    - you have 2 sensors - Stryd and HRM connected at once
    - while HRM delivers 1 metric only (HR), Stryd sensor provides several metrics.
    So, which of the Stryd metrics are updated/displayed real-time, with H10 connected side-by-side?
    I aim to understand, can Polar watch with connected HR10 + Stryd sensor record and display in real-time, simultaneously:
    - Heartbeats (H10), Power (from Stryd), Speed/Pace (Stryd)
    I want to have on my wrist precise HR, Pace and Power, displayed on the watch, with these 2 sensors. I want all the other metrics that Stryd provides, to be recorded, too, and appear in Polar Flow. I would be happy to findca separate Stryd page on the Polar watch that displays and updates in real-time, other metrics (for example, to be able to adjust my left foot vs. right assymetry on-the-run, etc).
    If you can answer the questions, God bless you!))

    • @neuschf
      @neuschf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heartbeats (H10), Power (from Stryd), and Speed/Pace (Stryd) are recorded and shown from those sources. During the run as well as on polar flow. GPS is used to show a track in polar flow, only. Also afaik, cadence comes from the Stryd pod.
      I don't think polar supports any other advanced metric of the stryd. So it's not shown in polar flow and not even recorded by the watch.
      I believe, however, that you can sync the Stryd manually with it's app after the run to get to those metrics, because the Stryd still records them.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The answer to your first question is yes. I have confirmed via stryd faq and previous email from stryd that, when paired, pace, power, and distance come from stryd. HR can come from external monitor. You get visual cues before you start your run to confirm that sensors have been synced up.
      To your second question (or your second data screen wish list): yes. You can configure a data field in Polar to show L/R balance

    Nonelite with an elite VO2 Max 🧐. You need new shirts in the merch

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m going to keep the shirts for now. I do think the vO2 Max is a bit generous, as would be the Elite classification

    I have a 56 vo2max on my garmin 735xt and the race predictions are:
    5k : 18:48
    10k : 39:01
    Half : 1:26:18
    Full : 3:00:04

      also im not running fast doing around 545-615min/km but it gives me a vo2max 59 categorised as elite...

    The Jack Daniels tables shouldn't necessarily be taken as gospel. If you lean towards endurance rather than speed (which is probably right for you), you might expect your PRs to slope up or down across the page rather than straight across

  • @gtom84

    Polar newest watches requires you to do a test for VO2 estimation where other companies calculate your VO2 estimation on the fly during or after each run. :D I hoped they will get closer to the competition with V2... :-(

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      i prefer that there is a test required to get the vo2max number with polar. it seems closer to the actual lab test.

    Garmin gives me a Vo2 max as 53, but when I load my metrics into Runalyze, it gives me about 48.5 vo2 max

    • @colinhenck5897
      @colinhenck5897 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Garmin V02 max runs high also. It says I can run a 19:35 5k, but I ran a 22:30. My best mile wouldn't even get me a 19:35 5K, so I don't understand how it calculates VO2 max. It also seems to measure running condition during the warmup which I don't understand at all. Stryd seems more realistic in terms of power it thinks I can hold for the different distances.
