out of every rendition, this is THE best band that I have ever heard to play this piece. So much perfection in their technique, great blend, very tasteful. Nobody has a more tasteful sounds than the Japanese (obviously not counting the ones who created the genre).
@EscoBeast He is Masaru Uchibori who is a famous arranger and also a band leader of this big band in Japan. This year, he released a new album including great masterpieces. Check it out! Album title "A dedication to Jazz Giants" by Masaru Uchibori Big Band from one of Japanese fans
Now that is done with musicality and tone with some technique- It is refreshing to hear it as it is intended and not overwhelmed by gymnastics and super techical 'stuff' so prevalent today.
Smoother than the thorns in a babies arm. Too many cats have gotten away from this style of playing a saxophone. Playing the melody sweet and pure. Very good interpretation of one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I liked so much mr. Masaru"s performance that I contacted him to see if I could buy a CD from him.. he kindly reply that they were all sold out.. what a shame, I;ll keep on listening him and his Big Band on youtube...
Mouthpiece choice changes things a lot too. There are jazz varieties of mouthpieces that are typically made of metal, and allow a lot percussive playing. With one of those and a decently stiff reed, you can project like a trumpet. Although, personal preference trumps all, so keep experimenting and you'll find a sound you like :)
I dunno if i like the sound of the horns, or it might just be the recording... On the other hand, the rhythm section sounds tight and the sax is simply heartmelting.

Greetings...I'm just wondering if the Masaru Uchibori chart of Sentimental Mood is available to purchase for big band? I'd sure like to have my high school jazz band perform it... Many thanks for any help you can offer,
beboppinnow: It's neither you nor I. The two songs are melodically similar, especially at the beginning, so much so that on occasions I may intent to practice the one, in thought, but find myself actually playing the other - interchangeably. They are both beautiful and emotional; aren't they?😠

The spirit of Johnny Hodges lives on in this fine alto player.

I've been listening to this version more than once per day during the last week, I love it!
I remember watching this when I was still in my high school jazz band, and for some reason now it seems even more amazing. What a player
Um dos trimbes e interpretação de sax alto mais lindos que já ouvi. Parabéns do Brazil...

内堀さんは本当に素晴らしいです!!
Duke Ellington's classic composition "In A Sentimental Mood" has outlasted all the musical genres!

Because I enjoy his tremolo artistry too
Is the tag correct?
Does any one know, which mouthpiece model the also player use?
He uses Mayer’s mouthpiece.
@AudioForVideo tuxes anyone?
Bass is supposed to keep tempo usually, but agreed.
Is it me or does the beginning sound like "Someone To Watch Over Me"?
