I've had both knees replaced and I swear by my recumbent bike. It does not have a center console making it so easy to get on and off. It has been over 2 years since the first knee was replaced and I still ride my bike everyday for range of motion and for strengthening.

Great informative videos and always checking out your new ones! Is an outdoor bike ok for those who have full range of motion of 130/0 and are out 4 months? I like to ride outdoors. I have had one tkr.

I’d love a video from you, Tony, talking about riding outdoors. I’m now about 5 weeks post-op TKR, 120 ROM, and my surgeon told me this week I could try riding my outdoor bike. Still a little scared, but it would be so nice to feel the wind in my hair again. My bike is the old-school upright “ladies” style.

Thanks sir🙏 So the upright bike should be the best option for exercising after hip replacement surgery.

I have an upright bike and use it daily even now, 6 months post-TKR, to keep my joint mobility. I’m slowly increasing the resistance to get some thigh muscle strength back. It’s a great piece of equipment, especially when it’s so cold and snowy outside and I can’t walk for exercise.

Hi Jessica, that sounds great. I prefer the upright and I agree, it is so cold and snowing here in Ohio that a bike is a great solution.

I’m going to use a recumbent bike here in Arizona in the hot summer!

@@Keep-on-ok I've lived in Arizona, so I know what you mean. Exercising outdoors can be downright dangerous in that heat!! You're making a wise decision.👍

Main issue I have with upright bikes are the seats.. Horrible

This is so helpful and something I have been wondering about. I have an upright bike. I had a TKR on my right knee 3 weeks ago. When can I start using the bike again? Also, my treadmill. Thank you.

In my clinic, under supervision I start patients in the first couple days after surgery. The main danger is falling while trying to get on or off the bike so don't do anything without your therapists approval.

What about a regular bicycle versus a recumbent bike? Is it the same as using an upright bike? When it's nice out, I like to ride my bicycle. I'm a year out on my right knee replacement and two years for my left knee replacement. Thank you.

When on my bike, Tony, why cannot I flex my FOOT fully, without discomfort, also when going down a step- leading with my left leg( unoperated one) I am still 'caught' by my right FOOT coming down. Any advice? Also at night, going up stairs my right TKR knee, hurts as I put my weight on that leg (each 14 steps). 7.5 months after TKR.
Would you consider 'numbering' videos in order of progression and ease of recall on TH-cam. Liam/ Ireland

How soon can I get in the bike. I had a partial knee replacement, in Oct 2021. Pretty much moving around on one crutch now . 🤔😊

If you want to strengthen the knee joint would the recumbent be better?
Also since the recumbent bike has more range of movement, would that help with increasing the range of motion of the legs and loosen the joints a bit?
My personal goal is to work my leg's range of motion and strengthen the knee muscles.

I don't like the upright because it strains my back too much and causes my tailbone to jam down into the seat, very uncomfortable.
