      Hey, could you possibly help out a newbie? I bought this with some powered speakers but it v quiet even on the highest volume. Should I have bought the ‘e1 phono’ version or do all e models require a separate amplifier? Thank you.

      @@jonathancroft828 hey! If you don't have the version with a built-in phono preamp, you'll need to get yourself an external phono preamp.
      ProJect make one called the "phono E" - here is an affiliate link to it on Amazon:

      Hope this helps! Any other questions, do let me know.

    Thanks for this detailed review… looking to purchase this as my first record player. What external preamp would you recommend?

    I don’t have this model but I do have the Project Juke Box E which I bought for my son to take to university. I would think that the turntable part is virtually the same. It’s not bad for the money as an all in one with Bluetooth and amp built in so just needed speakers. As for the best budget option turntable I would recommend Rega’s P1 Green Line. It’s only £200 or if you want a built in phono amp the plus version is £230 which is about a £150 saving. Both come with Rega’s Carbon cartridge. The gloss red ones use the P3 plinth and bearing which is what I went for and I added the AT610 mono cartridge. I now have a very capable dedicated mono set up for my 1960’s records. I further improved mine with Rega’s dedicated wall mount which was nearly as expensive as the turntable itself.

      Ah, what a nice thing to take to get university. I’d love to review the Rega stuff, they’re very tricky to get hold of as a company though!

    Hi! I'm looking at upgrading my LP60x, I have found the cart seems to have not lasted as long as I'd hope and it also plays with a lot of distortion even on supposedly clean records. I have a $550 AUD budget. Potentially looking to go with the LP120xUSB but have heard Pro-Ject is good, wiling to spend a little bit more on a Primary E Phono. I use a Pair of Edifier MR4 studio monitors. Any advice is appreciated. I do not have any external amps at this stage. Main music Genre: Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Japanese Idol 80s, Metal, Citypop. I'm perfectly happy with my current speakers. I found the LP120xUSB for $530 at Store DJ here in Australia. But reddit forums are recommending people spend thousands on a good player. I am not fussed, I'd just like something that plays without distortion, without skipping and sounds good, even on some warn out record.

    Hi thanks for your detailed review. Could this plug straight into active speakers or would you need a pre amp? Cheers

    • @soundmatters
      @soundmatters  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So long as you buy the E1 Phono, you can go straight to a set of powered speakers no problem 👍🎶🎧

    After watching ur video, I just bought a E1 std, now looking for a phono preamp, can I ask if the Pro Ject Phono Box E and S2 have big differences? Or would u recommend other models? Budget around 50-60 pounds. Thanks!

    • @soundmatters
      @soundmatters  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great! Hope you enjoy the turntable. The phone box E is essentially just the same as a built in phono stage. Sounds decent enough. The S3 will sound significantly better and gives you more control over loading: the subsonic filter is a nice addition too. In your budget range, I would look into the Fosi Audio Box x2. I have a full review of it on my site and this channel:

      Hope this helps! 🎶🎧

    Question from someone just getting into Vinyl- This would be my first turntable. I have powered bookshelf speakers that take RCA inputs, would the Primary E-1 (no phono) work with my speakers? Or would I need the phono version and an amp to get this going?
    I was originally looking at the AT LP60x but the Primary E-1 is on sale in my area and it seems I could stretch my budget a bit to get a much better turntable

    • @soundmatters
      @soundmatters  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey! Thanks for your question and for watching. To plug the E1 into your powered speakers, you would need the phono version of the E1 or a separate phono preamp to go between the turntable and your speakers. Hope this helps!

    Which would you is better overall between the RT81+ and the pro-ject e1?

    • @soundmatters
      @soundmatters  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think a lot of it depends on the sound signature you prefer, but from an overall build perspective, the RT81+ feels much more solid. I struggle a bit with just how light the E1 is, despite it sounding great for the price. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for your informative video. Is Pro Ject E1 BT version an automatic turntable which is able to lift the tonearm out of the resting position lower it onto the record on its own?

    • @soundmatters
      @soundmatters  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks for your question. No, it's a fully manual deck. Try looking at Audio Technica's AT-LP3 XBT for that for of thing. Here's my review of that one: th-cam.com/video/y6UpQ3bsuv0/w-d-xo.html

    I have a Dual 505-1 needing a repair... Should I repair the Dual or buy a new Project turntable? Sound quality is my priority. Thanks in advance 👍

    Does it have speakers on it? Or do you have to buy those additionally?

    Can I ask can you replace different cartridge on this very model or you can just replace the stylus

    • @soundmatters
      @soundmatters  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can, although it would have to be for another cartridge compatible with the tonearm and counterweight. That said, I wouldn't with this turntable personally. The OM5E cartridge has a wide range of stylus options, including nude elliptical and fine line: www.ortofon.com/om-5e-p-551-n-1579
      I'd probably look at those first and then seek to upgrade the turntable at the point where you want to explore other cartridge options.

    Did you listen to the Bluetooth mode ? And what was your impressions and review 🤔 Does it sound as good or not ?

    • @soundmatters
      @soundmatters  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had the E1 Phono for review, so haven’t heard the Bluetooth. I do have a Pro-Ject T1 BT lined up for testing though, so we’ll see how the Bluetooth sounds on that.
      The E1 is aptX Bluetooth though, so should sound pretty good

      they never sound good and with bluetooth it would decrease a bit it´s quality but being already a brand that it´s expensive and as no quality one wouldn´t loose nothing by having it conected by bluetooth ,one thing that is important is to know that a aceptable turntable when conected to one´s system would have several times more quality in sound than one´s cd player, this is how one can know if a turntables is aceptable,i use records and have several thousands but since 93 i started to buy more cds but having what was considered at the time one of the best cd players in the world , i use a technics turntable from 1972 with it´s original cartridge and still have boxes of needles in this case from technics that in rock albums the diference is from sounding like you have the band playing in your room to the cd that one doesn´t listen the guitars or any analog equipment used in the recordings like they should sound so i´m not against digital ,only want the sources to sound as they were recorded not only 60% of it. If someone likes rock bands from the 90´s that they were a lot and it was the fashion either than electronic dance music ,all were recorded in analog ,the cd was the only digital part of the process , as anexample the Nirvana´s nevermind wasnt a good album in my opinion but when listening to the record i was amazed by how it sounded

    Thanks for the review. I bought one of these back in January and I'm really not impressed with the sound quality of this turntable. There seems to be quite a lot of distortion and vinyls in general are very hit or miss in terms of quality and 'pops and crackles', which is not great considering how ridiculously expensive vinyls are. Maybe I'm more of a digital kind of guy, but this player has put me off getting into the vinyl hobby.

    Reloop makes the best budget turntables, hands down.
