This film is very important, as it presents Poland to the Jewish community not only through the Holocaust brought to Poland by the Germans but also through the centuries in which Jews found the best place to live in Europe. The partitions of Poland (1772), which offered refuge to many Jews fleeing persecutions in Western Europe, was the first step towards the troubles of the Jews in Europe. The immigration museum in Gdynia surprised me in how well it covered Polish history so as to better understand later emigrations. Sadly it seems like a long Polish tradition and history of tolerance was trampled on by others time and time again. As one Pole told me, a famous writer once said "Poland will always be considered the east by the west, and the west by the east."

My ancestors left the Gdansk area around 1880. I finally made it there at age 66, went to the immigration museum in Gdynia and the WWII and Solidarity museums in Gdansk. I stood in the very spot where Walesa often addressed the workers outside that main office building in Stocznia Gdansk on May 3. It was an awesome and humbling experience, and everyone I met was incredibly friendly and warm--even more so when they heard my last name. That's why I had to see this movie and it was wonderful.

I regret I missed this film in cinema. I looking forward to watch it on any VOD. Best for all the crew, especially for my new compatriot !;)
You haven't missed it. The premiere is yet to come in November 2024. They only showed it in Sundance Film Festival in January.
