- In their Actors on Actors conversation, Kieran Culkin ('Succession') and Claire Danes ('Fleishman Is in Trouble') reminisce on filming 'Igby Goes Down' so early on in their careers. Kieran talks about Roman Roy dealing with Logan's shocking death in the final season of Succession. Claire talks about the portrayal of her character's strained relationship with Toby Fleishman, played by Jesse Eisenberg, and the cathartic scream on set.

I need Kieran Culkin, Daniel Radcliffe and Elijah Wood to star in a dark comedy about long-lost triplets.
Same :)
And robbert pattison!
Charlie Day
PLEASE
Totally
I hope Kieran wins an Emmy this year because he was incredible this season!!! I already miss Succession sm!! 😭😭
It would be well deserved. He got to flex some chops
+1
Jeremy will win again 😂
The second to last episode gutted me😢
Bob Odenkirk needs to win
Kieran and Sarah Snook were outstanding this season. It’s an extremely talented cast but they really went the extra mile this season. I really hope both get their Emmys.
I agree. They have to, both of them!
Yep me too. I really hope Sarah does more interviews like this!
Absolutely! I wish every person in the cast could get an acting emmy honestly but I know the show will win overall
Jeremy❤
Claire’s face is so expressive, no one does a mental break down or scream cry like she does
This comment makes me want a glass of white wine. (With jazz music playing obvs)
@@Entertainment-os4ig I’m always in that kinda mood lol
Did y’all see Kieran on the final season of Succession?? *HE STOLE THE SHOW* . He probably had the most impressive performance.
His growth was insane
Agree.
The best definitely!
It was Jeremy carrying the show seasons 1-3 but Kieran took over season 4
I totally agree!! He was so good🤌🏾.
20ish years ago I don't think anyone would've believed you if you said Macaulay Culkin's younger brother will be one of the finest dramatic actors of modern day
You should watch Igby, he was very green in it but did a wonderful job regardless! Definitely could see the seeds of greatness
I'm so weak for him goddamn kieran culkin you're the man 🧎🏻♀️🧎🏻♀️
He's the hottest man alive, tbh.
so real
realll
The pairings continue to not disappoint.
Most of them work, not all of them, imo. This one works very, very well.
@@SCharlesDennicon to each their own opinion and preference. For me, I've enjoyed every pairing so far. They have all been surprising to me. I'm currently watching Sheryl Lee Ralph and Jennifer Garner and loving it.
This interview has given me new insight into the concept of "onscreen chemistry." (Also, I love them both individually but barely remember "Igby Goes Down.")
!!
i mean Brian Cox and Emily blunt was a little stilted... this was brilliant and super engaging.
I love kieran's energy and facial expressions. he has such a playfulness about him. he was my favourite part of succession season 4
Kieran is literally so talented and took the character of Roman to a huge new level. I’ve honestly never seen such a dynamic display of a traumatized man moving through his world. I hope Kieran lands some amazing new projects I’m so excited to see what character he transforms next.
Roman is so unique and complex and Kieran made it come across so effortlessly but also like I feel the need to watch each scene like three times to catch these little things he does that add so many layers to the story. Ugh love him
@@usergodcandy777 Oh that's just something people say for emphasis. Speak to some people.
@@kategrady5849I can’t get over the funeral scene… before that scene I didn’t really formed a connection to Roman’s character. I thought he was awkward but actually not in a good way but more in an uncomfortable making sense.
Generally I watched the whole series, from season 1-4, in a week and had never heard about it before.. normally this specific genre of show centering financial business, businessmen talking/walking/breathing making money in a way (like wolf of Wall Street -ish) I don’t have a single bone in me trying or wanting to understand what they’re doing.
I only started because I saw people on TikTok making funny videos of the show and the characters & I didn’t had a clue what they were making fun of 😂.
Then I saw my Mediathek was advertising the release date of the 4th season and I noticed I had all three seasons ready to binge watch for me so I did.
And I admit I struggled making real connection with any of the characters because all of them were constantly doing the opposite of what I would do or think they should/shouldn’t do and really had problems with them 😂.
But when Roman was suddenly out of anything to say at his fathers funeral and then the process of him showing his emotional breakdown through his eyes alone and portraying so many raw & heartbreaking emotions in seconds through so subtle but making it feel like real emotions… his face at one point looked so lost and childlike I started sobbing and crying my eyes out 😂❤
Kieran's praise of Claire and Fleishman Is In Trouble is 100% warranted. It was one of my favorite shows of last year and Lizzy Caplan is also phenomenal in it. I hope this gets more people watching and talking about the show.
People do not talk about that show enough!!!
I agree, that show was amazing!!
I’d never heard of it. I’m going to look it up!
It’s made me decide to watch it so that’s at least one person influenced.
YES
Kieran is such a good interviewee and interviewer. He is always so involved and has the right things to ask, great segways, funny quips and empathy ❤
Segue (not “segways”) …
@@googleyeyed5814 thank you ❤️
love watching his interviews!!!
Yes! Agree completely!
Absolutely, couldn't agree more. He's so engaging and engaged with everyone in interviews.
I don’t see enough fleishman in the comments. Claire absolutely ripped my heart out in her performance
It's one of my favourite shows of 2022. I loved Lizzy Caplan's performance as well. Sadly she's very underrated and deserves more recognition and praise.
❤❤❤
Well yes, I'd say I'm not seeing enough Clare Danes in general. She's an amazing actor with incredible range.
Came here to say the same thing! What a performance!
It's not fair just how much Kieran Culkin oozes charisma. Good on him, he's supremely likeable and was astonishingly good in Successon.
Kieran Culkin face looks like a great combination of Tobey Maguire and Daniel Radcliffe
With McCauley thrown in of course
@@originalindiechick7999 True clearly
To this day Igby Goes Down is one of my favourite films; I'm delighted to know their chemistry translates in an interview format too.
I watched it recently for the first time in probably 18 years and realized just how much of my teenage personality was based on Sookie Sapperstein.
That movie was the first thing that came to mind when I saw their two faces
I love that they seem to have genuine affection for each other.
they do! :')
This pairing was great! Claire Danes is one of the finest actors of her generation and I feel like we're only starting to see the best of Kieran.
I love how they are bringing actors back together who were co stars together years ago. There’s an intimacy that allows them to relax and be vulnerable. Love this pairing so much. Ig by was one of my favorite movies as a teenager. Such a hidden gem!
kieran asks great questions, better than any journalist i've seen lately
He was in his bag even at the Drama Actors Round Table. It’s so endearing & personable too, the way he posses the questions.
Kieran Culkin is easily the most endearing human ever 🥹😍
It’s refreshing to see someone actually focus on the person talking, eye contact, and totally focus on what the other person is saying. Kieran really made an effort to absorb what she was saying, giving the convo undivided attention. Refreshing indeed
kieran we're getting you that emmy
Claire is such a class act, such an amazing actress and so smart and articulated. I love hearing her speak. She's also such a great listener, this conversation was great. Kieran was able to share a lot and it was so interesting. Loved this duo.
Kieran was a standout in this season. Amazing performance.❤ And Claire Danes' performance is just on another level in Fleishman. Great actress who always moves me to my core. I cried so much in episode 7. She always makes me cry.
Claire Dane's performance in Fleishman Is in Trouble is absolutely phenomenal. I was bawling !
Claire Danes is unreal. What a treat to listen to her point of view.
My So-Called Life was a great show. I was so unhappy when it got cancelled. Both of these actors are terrific.
Me too!
It was such a great show about teenagers and so well written.
@@ndg43 I wish a streamer (one I subscribe to!) would bring it back. Or maybe a remake--a good one with the right writers and actors!
It was my fave
They still have that Sookie/Igby dynamic after all these years. The way Kieran can make her laugh. It’s great that they were both on such great shows and if Kieran doesn’t win the Emmy, we riot!
Claire Danes is super legit- acts with her whole being. Much love the Culkin fam too ♥️
The igby goes down reunion i didnt know i needed
Claire Danes is an absolute GOAT. Homeland is a masterpiece. The world needs more Carrie 😭
It’s amazing the Succession writer pitched future seasons but decided to end it while they were on top. Wow.
I wish we had more. At least 1 more.
yes, I wish more successful tv shows did this! it’s perfect as it is
honestly the storylines of the main characters started to get repetitive so it's good they decided to end it before it went downhill.
ok this is the second video i've seen that makes me wish kieran had some type of show/podcast where he interviews people
Good thought.
Igby Goes Down is one I watch over and over. Kieran and Clare were so funny in that picture. They still have chemistry 20 years later.
I need Kieran and Sarah to finally get their Emmys this year. They were SO good this season.
and Matthew
@@thecuriousboi He already has one
Igby goes down reunion 🥺
I absolutely loved how thrilled they both were about one another's shows! Getting to see Kieran go on and on about Fleishman was so heartwarming, specially knowing that these two actually worked together before in a project that is remembered to this day. They gave off that vibe of people that got along really well and are fond of each other, but that haven't stayed in touch.
Great pairing!
Homeland was so brilliant. I absolutely loved that show. Was so sad when it ended 😢
kieran’s eyes when he’s listening to her oh my god
I honestly felt like after 2nd each season of Homeland was pretty self-contained and they could just stop anytime. Clair rocked the hell out of her character, and her chemistry with Damien and Mandy was so tangible. Funny how her real life voice is so different, and Kieran's is exactly the same.
Two stellar actors. I love them hard. Claire Danes is a standout for me since MSCL. Kieran is genuinely, I know this is overused, a revelation in Succession. Sooooooo good.
god he looks so good im salivating 😭
Fleishman Is In Trouble was one of my favorite shows from this year. It needs more recognition! Claire and Lizzy’s performance were incredible. I’ve loved Kieran since Igby and continue to be a big fan of his - he brought so much depth to Roman and I truly hope he wins an Emmy for his performance.
These two are fantastic. Great, down to earth conversation with none of the "you're such a generous actor" kind of nonsense.
As someone who was obsessed with Igby Goes Down as a teen… wow 😍🥹
Realised I never saw Roman smile in Succession, so it's really quite a lovely shock to see Kieran smile here.
Two of my favorites. I love Claire Danes since My So Called Life. And Kieran, you deserve all the Emmys for this season. You and
Sarah.
To this day I’ve been devastated My So-Called Life was cancelled! It was clearly before it’s time, I have so many favourite quotes and have rewatched it several times over! Love Claire Danes because of that show, then Homeland. And Kieran, I know him from Igby Goes Down, been a fan since!
LOVED their conversation. obsessed about the fact that they did a 27 minute one shot take of THE succession episode. i saw brian cox mention it in his conversation with emily blunt too. i know the bear season 1 episode 7 was also shot in completely one take too. i love that creators in television are experimenting with form in such compelling and exciting ways!
I don’t care what other people say. I like Kieran as an actor and I hope to see more of him in the future.
Agreed! Do you find that a lot of people don’t like him or question his acting chops?
@@AntoinetteSarpong They say that he only knows how to play himself, which in Succession is a bit true, but is not always the case.
what?? he is pretty beloved isn't he
@@rodrigoescuderherrero5752 I mean yeah, but a lot of people say he only plays himself, which may me a bit true in Succession, but is not always the case
@@amparonarbona5142 OK I see. Yeah, I could see that narrative in a way. His range is being questioned, I guess, eh?
Interviewer/interviewee Kieran is always such a treat!!
I was smiling ear to ear during this entire interaction. Was such a fan of Igby Goes Down and these two generally enjoyed themselves here!
I genuinely need Kieran and Snook in more things together. I miss them already. We need at least one more season of Succession. I need to see where Tom and Shiv are. It's just so good
Tom is busy with a session of cucking ... cucksession 😂😂😂
9:08 this guys is Roman anywhere he goes and I just love it.
lmfao so true. He cracked for a sec
The Igby Goes Down reunion we needed !
So excited to watch this, Kieran was the highlight of highlights in Succession and Claire Danes is such a force. Loved them both in Igby Goes Down (2002).
WOW The lighting in these interviews is amazing! Kudos for the Lighting Designer!
resisting the urge to call a 40-year-old man a cutie pie
But he is! 😀
Age don't matter girl. HE IS INDEED
omg this is the most random one yet I love it so much because both Claire and Kieran are some my fav actors. loved homeland and succession my favorite show.
Such a genuine and organic conversation! Love them both! Can’t wait to watch Kieran and Jesse Eisenberg in the movie they are filming. They both have this innocent nervous energy about them; it’s going to be fun to watch.
So lovely to hear this chat I loved Igby goes down, was one of those comfort movies I would keep rewatching.
How come I've spent almost 40 minutes watching this video and it felt like 5? The respect and admiration between them, the amazing questions and true respect and interest for each other's work, amazing.
The hug at the end! Kieran is such a sweet guy! Awesome pairing on this one! ❤
I love that they talked about Igby! Two great actors and you can tell they really like and respect each other.
Whoever set this interview up did it right. They complement each other.
Thank you, Variety, for providing real subtitles! I really appreciate it as somebody who is hard of hearing ❤
I need kieran to do several projects just so I can see the interviews
This was so amazing to watch.
Both winning Emmys later this year would be awesome. They both should no doubt be nominated at least.
They are so engaged in the conversation. I should be doing other things with my life today but I cant take my eyes off this. I love both of these actors.
"Yeah Way!😮"
"Well... I didn't say Way" was such a Roman moment 😂
These two are some of my absolute faves❤!!!!
Yeah way! Love these two talking, you can see the history and respect throughout the entire conversation. Fascinating episode.
I binged all 4 seasons of Succession for the first time last month and LOVED it! Been a fan of Claire Danes since My So-Called Life came out when I was a senior in high school. I started watching Homeland during season two so much husband and I went back and got caught up properly. The last season was incredible!
Love that these are giving me new things to watch, being suggested by the actors themselves in the way they’re talking about them! Nice
god this was my FAVORITE actors on actors, i mean you can tell that they genuinely loved each other's work by how specifically they asked the questions and they just have this playful energy around them PLEASE CAST THEM IN A MOVIE OR A SHOW AGAIN!
Suffered Jesse Eisenberg’s “performance” just to be able to watch this episode (because I love Claire Danes and Succession so much) and was left with SO MUCH MORE THAN I ANTICIPATED. Claire Danes absolutely eviscerates in her performance as Rachel. Kieran Culkin made hating and loving Roman SO DAMN FUN! I am still spellbound by the absolute titan of a production that was Succession…These two actors are so articulate and lovely to watch interview one another. What a treat to be able to hear about their experiences bringing to life their respective characters in these phenomenally good projects they did. Watch Fleishman is in Trouble! Great pairing Variety!
This is a shrewd pairing.
Great job, team! 👍
This is super adorable. Two old friends reminiscing about old times and talking comfortably.
My So Called Life was one of the big upsets of my life. I was the right age for it at the time, and was blown away by how real it was. I still can't believe that somebody dropped the ball on that one
OMG two of my favorite characters in series, just yesterday i was talking to a friend about the feeling of missing them, i had that feeling with succession, homeland and braking bad. Amazing series, love Clare so much! ❤
Kieran is such a good listener. How charming.
Claire wants a season 5 of Succession so we must get one!
oh my god this was sooooo good!
Thanks to this interview, I binge watched “Fleishman is in Trouble” over the weekend 🤘🏻♥️
The friendship vibe of this interview is awesome.
Claire is so smart and a such brilliant actor. ❤❤❤
Would watch any "Kieran on Actors" series.
I love Igby Goes Down - that was a solid era for indie movies
To those who have not seen "Igby Goes Down": you NEED to watch it.
will never forget them in igby goes down, top 10 movie for sure
These two are fantastic. Both Homeland and Succession had brilliant final episodes... I miss Carrie Mathison. What a brilliant character... And Succession will live on forever in my head. Two great shows, nice duo here, well done Variety
Here after Kieran won the Emmy! Totally deserved!
what a fabulous episode. two old friends shooting the shit and deeply interested in each other. loved it.
Kieran Culkin is so great and generous in interviews, he's a very lovely person
Love them both, such talented people!
I need these two winning theirs Emmys and working together again, I love them!
I am still not over the fact that My So Called Life was cancelled...I loved that show! I just wonder what would have happened next...
just 2 extremely talented and underrated actors!
such an interesting conversation!
