  • The 207mph Ford GT was Ford's 100 year birthday present to itself. With 550bhp and brilliant dynamics, it was also evo magagazine's car of the year in 2005. Here, I look back to discover why it got built in the first place and what it's like to drive today. Thanks again to The Hairpin Company was allowing me to drive this amazing example they currently have for sale. www.thehairpin...

      @@RayMelville Red is ok, but blue with white racing stripes are the traditional racing colours of the United States of America. Made iconic by use on the Shelby Cobra's of the 60's, Shelby Mustangs of any era and reminiscent of the colours used on the original 1960's GT40 mk 1 road cars. Here in the States a few years back I attended a small Hot Rod show in rural Western Maine where my wife and I were visiting family. It was held at a local fairground and most of the cars on display were lined up on either side of narrow road that was part of the fairgrounds. While wandering amongst the various Hot Rods a Ford GT in the same color scheme as this one comes idling down the road passing by all of the cars on display. It turns out that it was owned by a friendly older gentleman whose only issue with the car appeared to be low seat height when it came to getting into and out of the car. He ended up parking it right in line with the cars on display which felt just a bit surreal to me. It remains the only time that I have seen a Ford GT in person. That car was one beautiful beast, as is this one in the video. Thanks for the ride!

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that while the current Ford GT most certainly have the performance, it is still not a member of the club. It is not well accepted within the exotic sports car comunity alongside Ferrari, McLaren and Lamborghini. In some ways, even the Porsche GT cars tend to receive a lot more respect.
      The issue is that while the GT won at Le Mans and have some pedigree in that regard, it is still a Ford, and it will always have a very hard time being accpeted for anything else. Looking at how pricing is currently treating both the current GT as well as this, clearly show where the car actually sits. At the end of the day, ti's a Ford, and it cannot be accepted as a thoroughbred, even with the five total Le Mans victories.
      That's just how the world and exotic car community works.

    • @Flying_GC
      @Flying_GC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AB-80X absolute nonsense, your comments are solely based on your personal opinion. Prices of what someone is willing to pay defines such vehicles, need I list what an original GT40 is worth? $12-$20m USD depending on its history. Incorrect.
      I'm not talking about the GT40. I'm talking about the 2005 model and the current. You should also note that the current GT does not outperform all its peers. It competes with them. I can see what goes on price wise, and what current cars that moves sell for. They currently suffer the same fate as most other cars in their segment. I'm well aware that low volume cars currently struggle - I'm a GT3RS owner... it is not about being a brand snob, it's simply a reality that many have already moved on. The next "thing" will be the 765LT. It will also suffer the fate of the 675LT and 458 Speciale. So will the Pista. The only ones whom stand to retain some value, are those of us having Pista Spiders coming or those whom own 458SA cars or the TDF. Whether or not the 812 GTS will retain value depends on production numbers. Currently that looks to be around 1100-1200 units.
      What is currently going on is a market that gets saturated. This affect all brands, and yes, it affects Ford quite a bit. You can call me a brand snob that's fine, I am a Ferrari enthusiast, but I am also enough of a car guy to see what happens and where things are. What will ultimately determine value is production numbers in relation to demand. And while you may not like it, Ford is currently producing quite a few GTs and the 2005 GT has become a car only of "high" value for those with a personal interest.

    Went to a Ford dealership in Ferndale, Washington with my then eight year old son to see one of these in 2005. Salesman let us both climb in it, play around, etc. He also warned us about the door. Took a camera to record the moment, still have the grainy picture on my wall. A favorite car and a favorite memory.

I LOVE this thing so much. It came out in such an amazing era for cars with the Carrera GT, Enzo, SLR Mclaren, Murcielago, Zonda, Koenigsegg, Veyron, Aston Martin DB9, Corvette C6; F430, Porsche 997, Audi R8 4.2 V8 and so many more...

    Such a great road car, but you need a wide garage, that’s for sure. That new exhaust sounds very beefy from outside, but maybe overly boomy in the cabin? Maybe it’s just the way it came out on the recording? Glad these cars are treasured nowadays.

    Every car I've ever driven with a Richard Parry Jones infulence has been spot on. Once Ford started listening to him and the other engineers, they produced the some of the best cars they had ever made. I think they're starting to go downhill again since he left. I must try and get a go in a GT.
    Fords from the 2000s, at least the UK market ones, all were such a perfect blend of being normal, comfortable daily cars, but also great fun to throw around. They just feel so right. Lots of engineering money and time clearly went on the suspension, and it forced competitors to step up and follow suit.

    Love Harry's reviews. So down to earth, humble and knowledgeable. The GT is amazing, with the exception of that ledge on the top of the doors. What in the heck was ford thinking? T-Tops would have only added minimal weight and could have done the same thing, only better. Instead, you have customers clotheslining themselves or ending up with stitches if they get in a hurry on the way out the door.

    A Ford dealership in Stillwater Minnesota had one in the showroom but roped off so you couldn’t get in it. I had a few conversations with salesmen and if I recall correctly it sold to a guy in Seattle who was buying every paint combination that was available in the Ford GT. I don’t know how many cars that would be but whoever he is made a good investment.

    I've seen a couple of these on the road over the years, the most memorable was seeing one, not too long after they first came out, driving in a heavy snowstorm with a few inches of snow on the road. I've often wondered how they handle in snow and how nervous the driver must have felt as he continued to wherever he was going in his expensive new "pride and joy". I bet he heaved a sigh of relief when/if he finally made it back to his garage unscathed.
    I was going to pick one up for the wife until I realised there was no where to put the shopping :) While most of these probably never get driven on the roads, that lack of any trunk and storage is really a serious omission, I can carry more on my motorcycle for a weekend away.
