    I can never get down with 20 inch rides. They are just too light and I don’t like screwing the nut super tight on my ride cymbal, and the stick definition isn’t great compared to 22 inch rides. 20 inch rides just look awkward to me personally having your ride cymbal same size as my china and main crash. Whatever works for you but that’s just me personally, 22s are the perfect ride size. The smallest I have is a 21 inch transition ride only cause that’s the only size that ride comes in and that feels small to me. It’s crazy how 1-2 inches makes a huge difference in feel and looks and sound. My 22 inch extra dry medium ride, 22 inch traditional medium ride, 22 inch sand ride, and 22 inch dark ride are all amazing. TAMA AND MEINL ALL DAYYYY.

    • @baldmitzvah
      @baldmitzvah 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only reason I have a 20 inch is because I didn’t have enough money for the 22 inch

    I noticed that the drums are panned from the perspective of a drummer, but since this is a performance that we are watching I think it would make more sense to flip to fit the perspective of the audience. Although, if it was on an album then I think this mix makes sense. Sounds incredible either way.

    I think you can see his bullet stack bent because of the hard hits lol. Compare this to the other vid

    • @EdenPorterMusic

      Kevin Nguyen Drums he’s also using a classics custom crash on left in this one, must have been a hard-hitting set...

    • @jantheman91
      @jantheman91 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah, he just turned the bottom cymbal around. Guess he wanted a less cutting sound for this one. Such a versatile stack!

    • @DBSplayers
      @DBSplayers 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jan Flöer nah , its bent. Look at the other videos from this performance

    • @jantheman91
      @jantheman91 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Nguyen Drums I have and trust me, he turned it around between songs. Hence the completely different sound.

    • @DBSplayers
      @DBSplayers 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jan Flöer look at 1.54 , he is surprised about the fact it bent.

    • @MusaTariq25
      @MusaTariq25 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think he played a triplet on the Tom instead of a quadruplet, barely a mistake but could’ve been one. It’s Alex rudinger so the standard of excellence is already above and beyond us mere mortals haha

  • @jeremymusa1544
    @jeremymusa1544 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don’t get me wrong this is definitely amazing drumming but in my opinion i just think the drums are too overwhelming for the song. That’s just my opinion tho.

    • @BoogieWoogieCat
      @BoogieWoogieCat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know it's an old comment, but he didn't write the drums, Evan Brewer programmed it and Alex is playing it exactly the way Evan wrote.

  • @DavidMcmenemy
    @DavidMcmenemy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Everyone praises Nolly's drum mix sounds but I've never understood the hype. If you want drums that sound over processed and midi-like, then sure Nolly is great, probably the best. But who are people going to these days for natural sounding drum mixes?

    • @StahlmetallerM
      @StahlmetallerM 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thinking he is some kind of expert and can tell us something about Nollys mixing but is using the term "over processed". That is not an actual word in audio enginering and your usage of it allready qualifies your comment as one of a non professional, who is not to listen to.

    • @lukebogartmix
      @lukebogartmix 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noone, because everyone can get a "natural" sounding drum mix by themselves.

    • @georgechandrum
      @georgechandrum 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol. I think your drum set got crappy mics, mic replacement, drum heads & tuning that you didn't realize that those are the almost natural drum sounds. Nolly did told that he doesn't like a over-processed drum as this would eliminate the tone of the drums. A good sound engineer is a person that always learn & find many techniques for better music producing. Not a "keyboard-warrior/jealousy engineer" like you dude, that searching for people's weakness.

    • @whodemiz583
      @whodemiz583 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check out kurt ballou from converge! I think he has the perfect way of making drums sound 100% natural, yet utterly devastating, he's probably my favourite producer, you should check him out if you don't know him yet!

  • @Johnbobon
    @Johnbobon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Dude must go through a set of cymbals on a weekly basis. It's completely unnecessary to hit that hard.

    • @gSWG3R
      @gSWG3R 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Johnbobon What hahahahaha. I see nothing unusual about how hard he hits. And hes the kinda guy who can go through that many since he is sponsored.

    • @wildanS
      @wildanS 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hitting cymbals with different intensity produces different sounds.
      Soft: Pschssssssssssssssssss...
      Hard: *PSCHS* Sssssss...
      Ok, why hitting cymbals hard produces shorter sustain? It doesn't really but the sound engneer will have to bring the gain down to a lower level compared to someone who hits them softly, so the dynamic range will actually decrease.
      Alex is my favorite drummer but I still think he could put a bit more dynamics into his playing, especially when there is no heavy metal involved, like here.

    • @lukebogartmix
      @lukebogartmix 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, he really only goes through a few a year, and that's probably much more from them wearing down because he plays a ton.
      Thinner cymbals help a ton.
      The sound here is what's most important!
