I suggest you paint it in French colours, so you can experiment with French camo patterns...it makes for a nice change from Grey, Green and German Late-war camo.
Great video ! The copula did rotate and it had a spotting scope behind the little armour plate on the front. On the rear was an episcope like the other vision ports. Finally on the left side behind the visor was an open vision port. If anyone wants to have a commander sitting on the turret hatch door you need to remember that it's hinged in the middle and folds out and down. That puts it with the narrow (top) end next to the opening. The seat was the outside of the door. The short piece of railing was an armored channel for the antenna wire. However, few French tanks had radios. In fact France lost a commanding general and his staff when they drove to the front to find out what was going on. They drove right into the German army. So although you see antennas they aren't connected to anything. Only an 88mm AA gun could hole a B1 from most angles. A Panzer IV or Stug could hole one but only from certain angles. The turret 47mm was the equal to or better than most tanks at the time and could hole most. The short 75mm gun could kill any German tank, assuming it got a chance. It could also fire HE as well as AP rounds. BUT it was slow! It couldn't go much beyond the walking speed of a man.
You've always got such interesting comments. I had no idea they were so short on radios. That's kind of surprising. Though I guess the soviets had the same problem. I did know that hte biggest failing of the Char B1 Bis was it's slow speed. It wasn't suitable to a mobile war, no matter how good the gun and armour were.
According to my handy dandy copy of Panzer IV vs Char B1 bis France 1940 by osprey the B1's speed was 28 kph vs Pz IV 42 kph. So, yes, the Char B1 was slow but it was faster than a man's walking speed. The Germans were able to knockout B1s with 105mm field guns as well as 88mm. As for the radios I don't think they were "short" so much as didn't see the need for them. The French had a doctrine built around methodical battle so having only radios for the platoon commanders was seen as good enough. A lot of the French army had to be built on the principle of "good enough" due to a shortage of personnel and money
To clarify, the char B1 is a heavy tank, one of the better tanks at the time too, all things considered. A fantastic review, I cant wait to pick this one up myself
Thats possible, though there were not many tanks that weighed much in the arsenals of the french army, its mostly just extremes of ' fairly light tanks' to ' Im a CHAR 2C Superheavy tank', Might have something to do with french tank doctrine that I am also missing, worth looking up without a doubt!
Excellent build video! Early this afternoon I ordered the Bolt Action 1/56 Char B1 Bis from Amazon. I’ve always preferred the original French version. I’ve built two of the Trumpeter 1/72 Char B1 Bis kits and they’re nice. I really want to get French decals from Histopic who have a selection of armor decals in various scales including 1/72, 1/35, 1/56 and the big ones in 1/16 scale!
In here late. But I don't think 1/56th will work for guard. They are more suited for 1/48th and unfortunately I don't think anyone makes one. You can get 1/35th though from our lords and saviours Tamiya. Might be good as a Malcador conversion.
Great looking kit Herbert and well built too. Are you going to do any 1/35 scale model build videos and if so, which kit will you select for the build?? Many thanks for sharing this build and I am already looking forward to your next video. Have fun, joe
I don't have any planned in the immediate future. But I have been considering doing the Tamiya Char B1 Bis. Though I don't own that yet. Might do the Italeri T-34/85. I'm not really sure.
to my knowledge the reason you (typically) don't see shovels and pick, etc. is the French doctrine for armour being HEAVILY focused on infantry support rather than independent mobility. So why carry additional weight when the infantry and engineers can do it for you. As for the turret the reason for it being so small is because of French doctrine once again, following the Great War France had a large issue with manpower and had a large surplus of light guns. so they made many tanks 1 man turrets which put the Commander is charge of the following on many tanks: Commanding, Loading, Gunnery, Radio Operation, and Spotting.
@@HerbertErpaderp I've been a fan of your channel for quite a while, Herbert. The music just sounded similar to a track from Minecraft, that's all. When doing a Minecraft video on Twitch, I always have to mute the game audio. It's because of you that I purchased/assembled the Hobby Boss T34/85 medium tank.
welll me when i get it might do as you did but add some bits have fist time i did this in 135th scaill exstaly fily but got some bits to bling up the war lord one like metel chains and others will see as go

Took me back to a great time in my childhood....many thanks for posting this video....loved it....

Indeed. Though the box says it's a medium. Maybe they're just going by its weight. It was only 28 or 29 tons.

cool to see some french tanks, very unusual but nice models!

I’m planning on converting afew of these for my 40k imperial guard army, love the look of it
Interesting idea. Are they big enough for 40k? I remember 40k tanks being kind of big. Either way, I'd be keen to see how they turn out.

Cant wait for The painting vid. Thank you for your videos
I really do enjoy your videos. Keep it up!
It's a lovely tank and I will certainly want a platoon box
Thanks for the video! I'd love to see how you use the smoke/fire markers, Iv'e built up quite the collection of them as well.
*Crosses fingers for AMX-40*
What a nice pink cutting mat! Im sure you'll need some white cloth for the french flag :V

7:34 what were u said was true, odd and interesting 😀 (I have 1/72 scale trumpeter and it’s not easy to find it)
Wow! I just finished building the Tamiya 1:35 Char B1
I'm considering getting that kit actually. It looks good. How did you find it?
Dude, that music is "depressing wine drinking music"

I really enjoyed building this tank I really like to look at the French tanks. Even though the guns are very underpowered for gaming.
Make it french, so we can get more french tanks. Like the fcm 36 or Somua s35.
ducking tanker approves of the big duck tank
Herbert Erpaderp approves this approval.
Have you done the Warlord M10 Wolverine yet? I know that you've done the Flames of War version though.
I thought I had. But I haven't I did to the Rubicon one! Might have to pick up the Warlord version too.
OK
I just got one in world of tanks! !!
Viva de France
Rather interesting kit, how did you get Microsoft/4J/Mojang's permission to use a track from the Minecraft OST?
I didn't. It's a Kevin MacLeod song from the youtube audio library

They should call it a "b1 beast"
I like french tanks because they look like tanks.

The music sounds like a theme from Minecraft.
The choice is obvious. Buy two and paint both different nationalities.
I did the same with a pair of Heller S35's and a pair of Revell B1's and FT's.
Not a fan of the gap on the rear tracks
Here before 100 views
Edit: can you do more aircraft?
I can!
Herbert Erpaderp yes!
Please paint it German🙏
