    Excellent explanation. Well articulated, good pace and enjoyable to watch and helps me out a ton.

      Thanks! I knew this topic was popular when i covered it briefly in another series so I wanted to give it a little more sunlight. Thanks for watching.

    As you suggested - I saved a model FROM Fusion in inches TO 3mf and then imported TO my blend file which was preset to metric, meters, and .001 unit scale. Size came out perfect. Love it. I would say though that the add-on designer could make this size conversion more clear; wasn't obvious. Thank you for this video.

    I do not have the testing tab on Blender at 5:44. How can I activate the Add-On?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I just tried this on 3.5.1 and I don't think that add-on for the 3mf format is supported any more sadly. I can't get it to work. The testing tab i think went away with v3.5.

      .@@LearnEverythingAboutDesignDoes this mean that the information covered in this vid about add-ons is no longer practical?
      Nevermind, found the latest release of the add-on which works (1.0.2)

    After importing an .obj from Fusion scale to 0.01. To avoid tessellation on .obj files. Click the body or component , save as mesh and set a very small surface deviation.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is exactly right sqwert! I think on this example i was using the defaults for each file type which if you ever export a mesh defaults to "Medium". You can use the mesh workspace and manually remesh a design before export if you wish.

      Thanks - I have been looking for a way to do this for 30 minutes! You saved me many more hours of searching. :-)

      @sqwert654 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimBrennan if you want to make game assets export from Fusion360 as a low detail obj, then duplicate the mesh and add chamfers and small details export as a low a low deveation obj for use as a high poly mesh for baking in Substance. This gives to a very low vert count mesh although it's triangulated. There's an example of a Rhino 60D made this way on my you tube. This method avoids any retopo so very quick.

    hi I am trying to import a FBX file for fusion to Blender, the file imports, but nothing gets displayed, the textures are there but the mesh bodies automaticaly go into a unused section and i can't even access or recover that data on blender, and i automactly gets deleted when I close blender? is my FBX file corrupted?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  หลายเดือนก่อน

      which version of Blender are you using? some of the imports/add-ons have changed a bit.

      @@LearnEverythingAboutDesign i am on blender 4.2 I also noticed that when ever i create a New Fbx file it also creates a mtl file i have never seen it before

      @@randompersonlol7930 I am on 4.2.1 LTS and the fbx import worked fine for me. Mine doesn't seem to create an MTL file for the FBX export. only an OBJ. its a material companion file and generally when importing an OBJ i think it references this. FBX should just take the color info in with each body on import.
      If you send me an email support@caducator.com ill send you one of my FBX files and we can see if the same is happening.

    How do you add the add on with Blender 4.0.2? There is not test label under preferences. Thats as far as i have gotten.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hmm, it doesn't seem to work sadly. You can stick with an OBJ or FBX format. I don't see any updates to support the 3mf format. Probably because its more of a 3d printing format.

    What is the best pipeline with less effort to convert CAD model to optimized mesh with quads for subdivision cinematic, visualization model and of course high poly and game ready low poly?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a tough one. The conversion will never be perfect. With the fusion product design extension there is a quad mesh option. I have heard people have good luck with export from MOI but haven't tried it myself.

    I plan to watch the rest of your videos about F360 to Blender as I prefer the workflow. Q: Why not use FBX format between the two apps?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Part 2 is FBX :) obj and fbx in this case really would be no different. If you were exporting out of blender then FBX might be the goto option as it has animation data.
      Fusion can convert a solid body to mesh in fusion with "try quads" option. however when you export it as an stl. obj. fbx. its always going to be Tris unfortunately. There will be some file size differences and OBJ and FBX will take appearances so in Blender you will at least have different starting colors.

    can you convert a building for example to blender and from blender to cs go hammer editor as a map ?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't used Hammer before but I would imagine if you can UV Unwrap it in blender, that is the info you would need. So yes at the core what you are doing is converting your 3d model to a mesh. If you plan to texture it in Hammer, then going from Fusion to hammer might be an option as some formats like 3mf will carry appearance data with them.

    Major thanks. I was just thinking this would be a great thing to do as Blender sucks for anything CAD, not having having drawing planes or a constraint system. Mind you, it is great for renders while Fusion 360 pales in comparison.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup :) I ended up doing a few videos on this. The program Plasticity I have been covering is a good middle ground as well. Not as rigid as CAD but work on actual solids.
      Also this is on my radar to try. not free but looks easy to use lighttracer.org/#pricing
