I like her too, as a person. I’d choose some of her tattoos, but she doesn’t really step out of her “comfort zone” with styles. I enjoyed Angel’s style more - it was versatile.
i would have LOVEDDD her medusa design and their critique about the snakes having no teeth made me so irritated because medusas snakes were never pertrayed like that.

She is good but to talk down on other people's work in front of the judges to make yourself look better is a dick move. But she was probably told to that by the producers since these shows are scripted as hell 🤷♀️
i love ryan because she focused on the challenge but still treated her clients like people not "canvases" and even when she knew she couldn't do something because it wasn't her style or wouldn't be good for the challenge or the tattoo.
And I think that’s also part of the challenge.. a lot of the artists dropped the ball because they didn’t know how to communicate with the canvases.. and many of them shot themselves in the foot because of it..

as a female tattoo artist in a still very male dominated industry every single time I watch the finale with Ryan Ashley I can’t help but get emotional. Her and the other gals really did the female tattoo artists in the industry proud.
Honestly, that hug with Kelly on stage made me emotional and ecstatic at the same time for all women. Like I want to cry but also scream and rip off my shirt in celebration like Brandi Chastain after her iconic World Cup goal.
As a female tattoo artist, do you see biases towards the men on the show because tattooing is such a male-dominated career? I just wanna open the conversation up since a lot of people in other replies are pretending like there aren't any sort of disadvantages that a female tattooer on the show (or in life) has to face. @@enbeast8350 I do indeed! There’s still a lot of sexism and bias in the industry towards us women. I’ve encountered a lot of sexist old men pigs who run ‘studios’ in my short 4yrs tattooing already. It’s grim. I’ve also had a few comments saying “no way a girl could have tattooed this!” And then they see me and they either go “oh” or further their shitty comments such as “you must be transgender then!” 🤦🏻♀️ I think this is why this season was so wicked to me to see those gals absolutely smashing it!

Tattoo artists have more males..but art is and never has been dominated by 1 gender, art is the one form where both genders have historically proved to be amazing and equal in potential of talent. I had a self portrait done by a right handed woman who drew it with HER LEFT FOOT right in front of me. It LOOKED LIKE ME. Art transcends gender. I don't anyones music or art taste that doesn't have both genders in their favorite artist list.

I believe it takes true strength as an artist to know your boundaries instead of just ignoring your weak points. Everyone is so hard on Ryan for voicing her concern about colored tattoos. Tattooing as an art, really is something you should transparent about. Tattoos are fucking permanent. I'd prefer an amazing black and white tattoo than a shitty color tattoo. Props to Ryan to having the balls to be vocal about her weak points, specifically to her canvases. Instead of being egotistical and pushing the narrative that she's a master at everything, she was truthful.
Honestly youre 100% right. I'd be mad if my tattoo artist didn't warn me that colour isn't their best style. I would rather use my artist strengths and making an amazing piece then push them into something they aren't comfortable with

how are the judges sitting there getting onto ryan for a slight difference in the eye shape or the eyelashes on the toddler when kevin’s entire face was wonky? the eye shape was far more botched than ryan’s and it’s definitely reasonable that she wanted them to get just as closely critiqued as she did. that wasn’t fair. her’s was so much better than kevin’s.

Honestly it gets really obvious they don't choose the winners based on tattoo quality but drama/popularity, and the criticism is often completely made up gibberish when they can't actually find good reasons to pick a specific winner. "yeah dude look at that contrast" "the colours pop out so much" "those lines are so crisp"
Crazy how she freaks out about doing color yet her color work is still better than the majority of the other artists I've seen on this show. Honestly think she's the best artist to come out of this show.
I always thought it would be a cool idea to not let the judges know who did each tattoo and just let them know after they judged and picked the best one just to see 😁

Agree! Ryan’s toddler tattoo is something I wouldn’t mind of my child having that black and grey. If someone did a tattoo of a picture of my child I would want it to look as cute as they are. Some I’ve seen of children and they look scary. Him saying the boy looked like Kevin’s is a Dis!
I think the problem with the child's face portrait is that she's turned the face toward the perspective of the viewer, and opened the right eyelid to show off the iris, which the canvas really emphasized was a thing she wanted to show - the really colourful eyes. The judges are right in that it doesn't technically match the photo 100% hand as a printer style, but those changes are not just acceptable but necessary to show off the features the canvas actually wanted. The hair is meant to survive healing and time longer to maintain a consistent shape and the distinctive curls, and appropriately changes shape to fit the new perspective of the face. I think the critique is overly harsh and unwarranted, mainly for the purpose of drama. It's actually a brilliant artistic choice I thought.
Thank you!!!! I can't stand how little anyone thinks about healing. Ink spreads and settles, and tattoos that look good healed are way more important than Instagram-ready fresh tatts. I really wish Ink master followed up and got 1 year and 5 year healed photos for every tattoo
@@abbystarheart1 it's so frustrating that they only really bring up healing when they want to critique someone for the fact that it won't heal up well (usually if they want to complain about a lack of lineart). it's like they pick and choose what standards they want to hold an artist to.
Just as a portrait artist in general; Anyone who wants an exact replica can take a photo. People want a flattering version that looks like the person. Ryan nailed that.
She seems like the absolute best artist to work with from a client standpoint because when you want something that she doesn’t do she doesn’t scream at you to change it to something she specializes in
I remember watching the finale live and her saying “I just don’t like colour” with one of the most gorgeous colour pieces in the entire show was such a big dick move. I love this woman so much.

I agree!!!! They critiqued her on the hair and eyes….but most artists should know that those are two of the most defining features of any person. Her going for a more stylized route, while keeping it pretty realistic was definitely the right choice. The eyes on her drawing were actually even, and weren’t drooping like her competitions eyes. Plus, the fact that the other artists tattoo will fade, and probably lose the nose of the drawing is even worse. I agree with Ryan’s reaction to the criticism, she got way too much shit when hers portraits were one of the best!

My artist was on ink master angels. He told me that at one point in the show, they wanted to pick the worse tattoo, in order to cause an uproar from the fan base to turn favoritism towards him. They do this kind of shit just to make us mad! And to keep us interested in a specific artist we think should have won. His name is Blake Thomas, an artist out of NWA for anyone wondering. He wound up quitting the show after they tried to pull that
Ryan is the best artist to ever be on this show. She never does a bad tattoo. Her artistic skill, her designs, her professionalism, and her ability to work with the client is all top notch. I also admire her fearlessness to tackle genres she isn't comfortable with, and always knocks it out of the park--incredible.

I feel like Ryan got critiqued unfairly. I think the tattoo of the toddler and the Medusa tattoo were both great. The toddler looked almost exactly like the photo but with a bit more character. That Medusa one was incredible and I see why she stood up for it. I couldn't see what they were critiquing in it at all.
I'm so happy she won, she really did deserve it. She makes incredible work, her attitude kinda bothered me at times but 10/10 choice. Really did deserve it.

when people draw faces from imagination they tend to add features of their own faces, as it's the face we see everyday in the mirror. Is not on purpose, because it happened to everyone I went to art school with. That's why practicing different faces helps you out to have more variety on the face features you draw. So that they don't end up looking like you all the time.
Tbh the first face I learned to draw was my own because it’s easy to access photos of yourself or a mirror and the face is most familiar. So can’t hate on it.
There are a lot of inconsistencies in this show; things that get contestants sent home in certain episodes don’t get contestants sent home in other episodes doing the exact same thing. Not fair.

People can change their identities or prefer to go by a different name by any point in time. She’s an amazing artist, it would be amazing to be tattooed by her
I'd get my kids names, if they found out they were born in the wrong body I'd simply add their new name since id have gained another child, different from the one before. I don't see anything wrong with that.
i literally cried because i love ryan so so much, and during this season i just wanted her to win because it felt like she had a target on her back, but she kept her head up and did the best she could despite all the people literally going against her.

For once I would love to see a competition reality show where the judges also have to do the challenge, same time crunch, same everything. Of course we would have to trust the producers to make it fair/not give them special treatment, but I think it would be an entertaining concept.
I do believe all the Judges now have been contestants on the show, which I absolutely love, because they KNOW what it's like to be on the opposite side of that table.

as a female tattoo artist in a still very male dominated industry every single time I watch the finale with Ryan Ashley I can’t help but get emotional. Her and the other gals really did the female tattoo artists in the industry proud.
Honestly, that hug with Kelly on stage made me emotional and ecstatic at the same time for all women. Like I want to cry but also scream and rip off my shirt in celebration like Brandi Chastain after her iconic World Cup goal.
As a female tattoo artist, do you see biases towards the men on the show because tattooing is such a male-dominated career? I just wanna open the conversation up since a lot of people in other replies are pretending like there aren't any sort of disadvantages that a female tattooer on the show (or in life) has to face. Like a biased judge who thinks an Oopa Loompa tattoo is better than your portrait-realistic tattoo
@@enbeast8350 I do indeed! There’s still a lot of sexism and bias in the industry towards us women. I’ve encountered a lot of sexist old men pigs who run ‘studios’ in my short 4yrs tattooing already. It’s grim. I’ve also had a few comments saying “no way a girl could have tattooed this!” And then they see me and they either go “oh” or further their shitty comments such as “you must be transgender then!” 🤦🏻♀️ I think this is why this season was so wicked to me to see those gals absolutely smashing it!

I believe it takes true strength as an artist to know your boundaries instead of just ignoring your weak points. Everyone is so hard on Ryan for voicing her concern about colored tattoos. Tattooing as an art, really is something you should transparent about. Tattoos are fucking permanent. I'd prefer an amazing black and white tattoo than a shitty color tattoo. Props to Ryan to having the balls to be vocal about her weak points, specifically to her canvases. Instead of being egotistical and pushing the narrative that she's a master at everything, she was truthful.

how are the judges sitting there getting onto ryan for a slight difference in the eye shape or the eyelashes on the toddler when kevin’s entire face was wonky? the eye shape was far more botched than ryan’s and it’s definitely reasonable that she wanted them to get just as closely critiqued as she did. that wasn’t fair. her’s was so much better than kevin’s.

I think the problem with the child's face portrait is that she's turned the face toward the perspective of the viewer, and opened the right eyelid to show off the iris, which the canvas really emphasized was a thing she wanted to show - the really colourful eyes.
The judges are right in that it doesn't technically match the photo 100% hand as a printer style, but those changes are not just acceptable but necessary to show off the features the canvas actually wanted.
The hair is meant to survive healing and time longer to maintain a consistent shape and the distinctive curls, and appropriately changes shape to fit the new perspective of the face.
I think the critique is overly harsh and unwarranted, mainly for the purpose of drama. It's actually a brilliant artistic choice I thought.
Thank you!!!! I can't stand how little anyone thinks about healing. Ink spreads and settles, and tattoos that look good healed are way more important than Instagram-ready fresh tatts. I really wish Ink master followed up and got 1 year and 5 year healed photos for every tattoo
@@abbystarheart1 it's so frustrating that they only really bring up healing when they want to critique someone for the fact that it won't heal up well (usually if they want to complain about a lack of lineart). it's like they pick and choose what standards they want to hold an artist to.

I agree!!!! They critiqued her on the hair and eyes….but most artists should know that those are two of the most defining features of any person. Her going for a more stylized route, while keeping it pretty realistic was definitely the right choice. The eyes on her drawing were actually even, and weren’t drooping like her competitions eyes. Plus, the fact that the other artists tattoo will fade, and probably lose the nose of the drawing is even worse.
I agree with Ryan’s reaction to the criticism, she got way too much shit when hers portraits were one of the best!

My artist was on ink master angels. He told me that at one point in the show, they wanted to pick the worse tattoo, in order to cause an uproar from the fan base to turn favoritism towards him. They do this kind of shit just to make us mad! And to keep us interested in a specific artist we think should have won. His name is Blake Thomas, an artist out of NWA for anyone wondering. He wound up quitting the show after they tried to pull that

I feel like Ryan got critiqued unfairly. I think the tattoo of the toddler and the Medusa tattoo were both great. The toddler looked almost exactly like the photo but with a bit more character. That Medusa one was incredible and I see why she stood up for it. I couldn't see what they were critiquing in it at all.

No she doesn’t. They are experts and while she’s very talented and her tattoo was good you need harsh criticism to improve.
Mark Neill the problem is they attack the female artists with harsh criticism and then don’t do the same for male artists and it’s an all male panel so it feels biased especially how they edit how the girls react it makes them look like they are being over emotional when they are standing their ground

Dude I always thought the same thing, every time I’ve seen her do a female face. She always puts her strong jawline in it. Looks great though
when people draw faces from imagination they tend to add features of their own faces, as it's the face we see everyday in the mirror. Is not on purpose, because it happened to everyone I went to art school with. That's why practicing different faces helps you out to have more variety on the face features you draw. So that they don't end up looking like you all the time.
Tbh the first face I learned to draw was my own because it’s easy to access photos of yourself or a mirror and the face is most familiar.
So can’t hate on it.
There are a lot of inconsistencies in this show; things that get contestants sent home in certain episodes don’t get contestants sent home in other episodes doing the exact same thing. Not fair.

I personally think doing name tattoos (that aren’t your animals) are a bad idea. People can change their identities or prefer to go by a different name by any point in time.

I'd get my kids names, if they found out they were born in the wrong body I'd simply add their new name since id have gained another child, different from the one before. I don't see anything wrong with that.

i literally cried because i love ryan so so much, and during this season i just wanted her to win because it felt like she had a target on her back, but she kept her head up and did the best she could despite all the people literally going against her.
I watched this on 2x speed while having "tips for first time tattoo" videos play through on autoplay in the background as I do some job applications, and now I'm super proud of Ryan even though I have never watched the show and have my first tattoo tomorrow lol...Congrats Ryan! For once I would love to see a competition reality show where the judges also have to do the challenge, same time crunch, same everything. Of course we would have to trust the producers to make it fair/not give them special treatment, but I think it would be an entertaining concept.
Forged in Fire does that, only competition I've seen do that & the competitors can beat the judges...
I do believe all the Judges now have been contestants on the show, which I absolutely love, because they KNOW what it's like to be on the opposite side of that table.
