    Began watching a couple of weeks ago, started with episode 40ish, watched a few then thought I’d better see what else you had been doing. So just spent the last weeks binge watching the series so far. It seems like you’ve got loads done until I remember that this is pretty much 2 years!
    It’s been most enjoyable anyway, loved the Volvo ad, the zoidberg dance, love the text flashes on screen where you correct your terminology. Incredibly envious of the Italian garage, what a dream set up that was. Looking forward to seeing more on the lotus now that you’re starting to put it back together.
    I’m not currently restoring anything, but my father has a Ducati Darmah 900SD in the shed which has been there as long as I can remember that he has no interest in restoring, so my plan is to tackle that with my kids when they are a little older.
    I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next episode. Great job!

    I have watched this range rover video set twice now and I am still overwhelmed by the amount of rust this truck had. I live in California so sun burned plastic, leather and rubber is normal but rust only happens on bad designs that trap mud or filth or on cars from snow country where they salt the roads.
    Great work saving a truck that deserved to be saved

    I had a 1990 Vogue SE in the same colour that became a donor because it was so rotten, it had exactly the same issue above the windscreen, although mine was full of bathroom sealant as well!

    I bought a 95 RRC and come back to this series just to get an idea of how things go together. Next major project is the scuttle as I can see some rust starting to form behind the fresh air vents. Oh, I had to chuckle at the old grease in the contacts. I had 5 or 6 systems not working or so I thought. Almost every one turned out to be grease that transformed to glue in a switch. The cruise control system was just a disconnected vacuum line to the brake switch. Now the EAS system......thats a chapter.

  • @NemoConsequentae

    Keep up the good work! I know the temptation to skip on minor things when the end is in sight, but then you always know they are there to be finished. Don't give in!
    The top of the windscreen was a shocker there. Good to hear you found a donor rather than having to fab that sort of complex form. Much easier to weld in, that way.
    Stay the course, George! You are almost there. The satisfaction in the end will be worth it!

    Great welding, attention to detail and excellent videos.

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gotta say I was never too fussed about it being a Vogue SE but I'm really appreciating all the little features now that it's coming back together. Did the rust do away with yours?

    • @michaelhutin5451
      @michaelhutin5451 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@soupclassicmotoring No, when I first got the car I spent 2 weeks welding up the inner wings, sills (outer/inner) and the rear body cross member. The speedo did not work and had not worked for over a decade, so the mileage was around 300,000 when I sold it. The radiator, power steering rad and one front caliper leaked, some of the door handles/locks did not work, e.t.c. It was age/mileage that did away with mine, but the young man whom I sold her to hopefully has fixed all the problems. But I think the windscreen surround was like yours but not as bad. After 7 years of ownership I had reached a point of not wanting to spend any more money on the Range Rover, there was just too much wrong with it, but I do miss that V8.

    Great effort. Really enjoyed the work. Am I THAT sad? Must say still got Esprit lamp post envy, as I can't get mine to activate on my dual motor S1.

      didn't know there were S1's with dual motors, what's stopping yours?

      @@soupclassicmotoring ha ha, you've a lot to learn. Many S2 features were introduced in later S1s. Dual motors, improved exhausts with modified rear valance. Something to do with the changeover and flash relay combination. New loom is unmarked, ie no relay blocks, just bare spade connectors. Nightmare.

    you where so close but then you had to get a new tarp. I am guessing that there was not enough tarp left to cover the windscreen and sunroof at the same time.

    I learned about your channel by shout out of Ronald Finger (Fiero series) and I´m glad I checked it out. Great Content. I really appreciate the huge amount of work filming and editing this absolutely entertaining, good work. But I hope you do not mind one question (if you ever might read it at all): What is the cost of a new car cover (tarpaulin) in your area? : ))

      @@soupclassicmotoring before you put the old headliner in id also consider putting new glue in to hold the fabric its a job that takes 1-2 ish hours to do but it means it wont sag for another twenty years other then that thanks for the good videos.

    George....Range Rover...British Steel equals British RUST......Lotus Esprit equals "Plastic Fantastic" which roughly translated means no rust, no welding, no grinding, no fabricating patches, no pieces of metal ending up in your eyes.

    • @Phantomthecat
      @Phantomthecat 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s the environment not the steel - my 86 RRC with 385,000KM on it doesn’t have an ounce of rust - but it’s lived here in sunny Australia its whole life. No salt on the roads and stuff all rain really helps. 👍

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep salty roads and damp climate are a killer and this thing lived on religiously salted roads for it's first 20 years. We're by the sea here but the roads aren't salted that often and cars don't rust nearly as badly as this.
