- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is on spring break, so his longtime friend and co-author of “Racing to the Finish” Ryan McGee is filling in.
You might recognize Ryan from his longtime coverage of motorsports for ESPN and his popular show with recent Download guest Marty Smith, “Marty & McGee.”

Without a doubt, I thoroughly enjoyed this show / episode. From the stories to the insight, even the thoughts on the weekend's races... top notch from all involved. I am especially moved by something Ryan talks about 22 minutes in (I won't spoil it for those who haven't listened / watched). It hit me hard, and is so true. I sure hope Ryan is back soon!

I love the LSU shoutout. We are known for our fans, from football in Tiger Stadium, to baseball in the College World Series, we try to dominate. It's nice to stand out in random (not so random) podcasts. I can attest, the LSU fandom is right up there with the JR Nation fandom and vice versa.

I love Ryan’s energy. It’s like going to a concert without a break between songs, just 90 minutes of straight music. He had 90 minutes without a break in story telling. Was he caffeinated or can he always go at this level?

Wasn’t really familiar with McGee until this episode. I really enjoyed his commentary and perspective. He reminded me of Dave Despain on Windtunnel in a way.
Yes Dale Jr said last week Ryan was filling in. He even said that he'd probably be listening and may even ask a question or something I think. And said you never know. But ya great guest host and great stories about Dale Jr and Sr.
If someone gave me that advice that dale gave ryan about his mom dying, I woulda avoided at least one mental breakdown. I was so messed up from people saying my dad was in a better place. He wasn't, he's my dad, and hes gone. Took me a good couple years to learn to live with him gone, and to forgive those who told me that he was better off away from us. I just am not religious. I miss him everyday but I know he would be proud of me living, surviving, and learning to live with him gone.
I remember hearing the story. When Dale shaved in the Bahamas it was because of a bet with Michael waltrip I believe. If I remember correctly it was a depth diving challenge and it was the diving with no tanks so you had to hold your breath. And the Only way for Dale to have a chance to win the bet was by shaving the stache. He won the bet.
