I studied the analysis of this oratorio back in 1994 for my Master’s thesis at Naruto University of Education, Japan. Such a great composition by a great composer and yet performed by a great orchestra under a great conductor and all great soli, choir and orchestra. Thank you for the posting, I love it indeed ...
FYI There does exist a remarkable Grand Format Oratorio music box by Nicole Freres that is known as ‘The Creation’ box for its programming is a carefully arranged medley of this piece crammed in to an eighteen minute performance. It’s currently in a Floridian collection.
I am more of a symphonic person than big vocal works such as this Haydn Creation but this performance is truly magnificent. I never heard of the conductor before. If he continues to give performances of this caliber he will be much better known, very quickly.

I have known and loved this oratorio in both languages for over 60 years, but this is the best performance, live or recorded, I have ever heard. Many thanks for posting.
To me this is simply the best rendition of The Creation. The soloists are outstanding. Even the choir and orchestra are outstanding. Doesn't get any better than this.
Lovely trio..bravo to an excellent soprano, JOHANETTE ZOMER, cool tenor, MARCEL BEEKMAN, and thunderlike-voiced baritone ANDRE MORSCH..Good job, Maestro, KLAAS STOK. .. The vocals and musicians are all perfect...CONGRATULATIONS....Daniel from Canada
O, I just love this performance. Everyone enjoys every moment, just as I think Haydn intended. In fact, I can already see him, smiling with the musicians, tapping his foot along, nodding his head and, in the end, jumping up and down with joy and applause.
It should be forbidden, By Law, not to perform Haydn (Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Boccherini and other Baroque/Rococo composers) on period instruments. This rendering proves just this. It bring such joy and warm sound to the performance and cannot not leave you speechless. DW, you are one of the rare gems in what is otherwise a simple and superficial TH-cam content world. We owe you deep gratitude.
Completely disagree. The fact is if Haydn etc had the use of “modern” instruments he would of course have used them and be totally thrilled by their superior sound.
@@TheVaughan5 well, my comment was ironic (since it is impossible to realise) but I really cannot stand certain musical compositions being performed on modern instruments. Say, Bach's "Well Tempered Clavier", Opera continuo on modern piano in (stead of a time-accurate Cembalo), are just examples on the top of my mind. The instruments have totally different sound, ranges and behaviors, and it is just that the composers heard in their heads, which is what I enjoy experiencing. You can perform The Toccata and Fugue on a piano, but it belongs to the Organ ☝🏼 Cheers, my brother in music 🎶
@@mdrakic I take your point about Bach (not one of my favourites) and certainly the continuo in opera on piano is not suitable. The sound in the performance seems to me to be a mix of modern and period, would you agree?

This rendition is a surprise! Probably the best rendition akin with the old interpretation by Bernstein (with modern instruments obviously). The director has studied attentively the tempos ( not too fast as is common today) showing a great respect to the genius of Papà Haydn (God bless him!)
…Dieses absolute Meisterwerk begleitet mich seit den Tagen, als mich unser Vater mit in die Generalprobe seines Konzertchores nahm. It's a glorious masterwork, but a major inspiration for Haydn was the realization, based on Messiah, that there was a lot of money to be made in this genre.

A premiere means a first performance, in the case of Haydn’s The Creation, its public premiere was on 19 March 1799, though there had been some earlier private performances. Regardless of any subsequent performances, propagating misinformation about The Creation being ‘….premiered at the Vienna Congress of 1815’ is unhelpful.
Thanks for clarifying the date of “The Creation”premiere. I confused its premiere with Beethoven’s Seventh and Eighth Symphonies and Wellington’s Victory op. 91, which, as noted by the British Library, premiered during the Vienna Congress of 1814 and 1815.
@@aaronjclarke1973 No problem, but you original comment sent me looking through sources to find if The Creation had been performed in 1815 which was not improbable as it was being widely performed. The Beethoven works make far more sense of course, even if Beethoven’s switch of sides from Napoleon to Wellington is not often discussed as much a it might be; it is also a debate that I believe in some small part explains the difficult relationship between Haydn (loyalty to Emperor, and latterly to England 1791-95) and Beethoven (belief in the initial ideals of the French Revolution until Napoleon’s faux pas). It is an area I have never seen discussed in detail, but certainly in the 1790’s, Haydn and Beethoven were on opposite sides of *the* political question of the age, and whilst Haydn’s judgement was reinforced by Nelson and the British entourage visiting him in 1800 at Eisenstadt (the ‘Nelson Mass’ story), Beethoven was still at the point of thinking about dedicating his later ‘Eroica’ symphony (1803) to Napoleon (deleted 1804). Is there any wonder their relationship was so difficult ?
The sections make more sense if you read the beginning of Genesis. It's based on the biblical account of the beginning of time. A number of ancient sources record similar accounts, that are in some cases almost word for word the same. There are a number of them from ancient China that would be worth looking into. I'm learning Japanese and hopefully Chinese soon, to read some of the old kampo documents from those countries.😊
That's right and in an unbelievably beautiful and enlightening way - period... but you do not have to believe it or you can choose a way out of e.g. Spinoza who was equalizing God and Nature.
