Overshadowed by his more sensational student, Papa Haydn was a true master of sturm und drang. What a remarkable work! This performance does it justice.

Haydn was never overshadowed by anyone, so much as relatively forgotten after his death (I’d say due to his modest personality and long, indiustrious life that didn’t fit the Romantic’s ideal of a troubled artistic genius). He has remained one of the most brilliant figures in Western music. No musician underestimates him.
Add.: This is not so much in the Sturm in’s Drang tradition as it is just late classical.
If you think that The Creation or The Seasons by Joseph (sic) Haydn are overshadowed by Christ on the Mount of Olives by Beethoven, then that is a pretty non-mainstream view.
Comparing like for like above, whilst Haydn soars like an eagle, Beethoven walks like a parrot.
I think they mean Mozart not Beethoven
Für mich ein großartiger Beitrag, bei dem wunderbar komponierte und aufgeführte Musik (nach N.Harnoncourt "ein Rätsel, ein unerklärbares Geschenk aus einer anderen Welt") mit schöner Video-Komposition harmoniert.

Great performance but there really was no need to show us real images of Nature to illustrate the music. Haydn made sure one could visualize them in his music 🙂

He is not a bass bariton but a lyric bariton.

(also thanks for the good recording:) The orchestra esp the string part is wonderful; deep soft powerful clean and clear:) The solos all had their attractiveness; just found that the voice textures of the soprano and the bass soloist were different that their voices wouldn’t mingle or blend much when doing their duet. Erstaunlich (amazing). It has a lot of the same effects that made the Houston Symphony 2016 performance so unlike almost anything else I had ever heard on that work. If there is one place where this would have an edge on the HSO, it is that German is the first language for most of these musicians

Eine absolut geniale Aufführung mit einer ausgezeichneten Sopranistin und einem genialen Bass/Bariton, den ich z.B. Herrn Quasthoff jederzeit vorziehen würde. Wirklich eine großartige Leistung!
Leider fällt der Tenor bei mir durch und aus der Reihe des Lobes und der Anerkennungen: Es missfiel mir doch sehr, mit welch weinerlich wirkenden, fast auch melodramatischen Stimme er den Tenorpart bei diesem wunderschönen Werk Haydns wiedergibt, das doch viel empathisches Gespür verlangt, das er leider nicht hat - schade.
Die Bildeinblendungen während des Videos sind leider sehr, sehr albern und kitschig und zeugen für völliges Unverständnis für die Musik Haydns, denn mit der haben sie nichts zu tun.
Aber ich habe dennoch viel Freude an der musikalischen Gestaltung der "Schöpfung" und höre sie in der letzten Zeit des öfteren an. Daher: Vielen Dank für das Einstellen hier bei TH-cam!

Man sieht förmlich, wie sich die Musiker mit dieser phänomenalen Akustik wohlfühlen. Alles kommt so natürlich und wie selbstverständlich daher. An manchen Stellen würde ich mir - textlich bedingt - vielleicht etwas mehr Zeit für einzelne Phrasen wünschen. Aber es ist eine wundervolle Interpretation und vielen Dank fürs Hochladen und die bildliche Untermalung.

Here in the states i find the same problem. I've yet to hear world class singers with a major orchestras in choral works. Our Messiah soloists always disappoint for example. I assume they hire lower tier singers to save money on big names.
Eigentlich ne echt tolle Besetzung und richtig schöne Musik.
Aber das Orchester klappert ganz schlimm. Die Bläser sind ständig auseinander. Akustik, interne Differenzen...? Das trübt den Genuss.

There are some vocal shortcomings yes. Yet she mastered beautifully her part: musically and fitting perfectly in the overall ensemble. To my humble opinion.

Poderosa, magnífica versión, y de gran rango dinámico de esta obra total, con oportunas inserciones de video en los pasajes más descriptivos de la obra. Excelente sonido y balance entre todas las partes intervinientes. Alan Gilbert encara tiempos decididos, quizás a veces un poco demasiado rápidos, por ejemplo en la primera y célebre parte del dúo de Adán y Eva.
Se celebra una interpretación sin interrupciones
Qué bueno sería escucharlos haciendo Die Jahreszeiten!
