    After realizing that I didn't want to be a professional musician, transcribing has taken on a whole new aspect for me. I found out I get the same joy out of it as I do from reading a good book by one of my favorite authors. And like reading an entertaining and challenging book, where you really connect with the characters, I find that it's kind of sad when I reach the end. The point is though that I don't care if it affects my playing because it is doubtful if anyone will ever hear me play, but I still find great joy in diving into a great solo.

    Thank you Bob for all of this. We've been putting so much expectations over this quarantine period not realizing that this is a difficult time. Instead of just concentrating on being safe and taking things as they come many of us, myself included, have been thinking that when this thing ends we should be the next Sonny Rollins, causing too much pressure and not enjoying the journey. Seeing a person so excited and involved with music truly inspires me a ton, thank you very much!

    Bob! This vlog was simply incredible. Your enthusiasm and energy is infectious. We can all relate to hearing an old album for the first time in a good while and how refreshing and in some ways, reaffirming that can be. I also really enjoyed hearing about your anchoring approach while transcribing by looking at the last and then the first note you're hearing and then figuring out the pattern. Really inspiring stuff - thanks so much for sharing!

    • @davidskey
      @davidskey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Got to sit ~3 feet from him at the Village Voice for 3 sets a couple years ago. He does put the right hand down pretty often regardless of how he fingers Bb. Couple other things I noticed: (1) He pretty consistently fingers the left pinky low C# key when he plays G# (instead of just pushing the G# key); (2) He'll use left palm D to play middle D to get a more open sound on the note, or finger middle D the usual way but depress the left palm D instead of the octave key - also gives it a more open sound.

    • @bobreynolds
      @bobreynolds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      spot on; he does all these things. The C# for G# is makes playing wide leaps from C# easier bc no need to switch your pinky. Garzone also does the palm D for middle D often. Cool sound.

    PS - Was just working on Mile’s ‘So What’ solo with an Alto student (on Facetime). Same thing - he starts with a damn triad (minor)! Drives me crazy when young students come back from jazz camps where the teachers have them diggin’ into Superlocrian or b6 Pentatonics before the kids can play a blues lick or even outline a triad!

    Hello Mr Reynolds, Ive been plying for quite some time now, but have been struggling with my left hand for a few years now, i got stabbed through the hand with a pen in between thumb and indexfinger hit some nerves and tendants, and ever since then ive been having difficulty in coordination after maybe half an hour i get cramps, and i was wondering if you have any tips on how i can improve the time i can play, but mainly what i can do to get my coordination back.. or any tips relating to injury would be amazing :o, Great work, Keep safe..

    Hey Bob, this is great. Thanks for your transparency as well! The software that you're using to loop sections that you want to practice more looks great and user friendly. What's the name of that app/software? Thanks!

      The app I use to transcribe and loop music is th-cam.com/video/fwV_xAIr1JY/w-d-xo.html

    Hi...
    I want to get a really good saxophone this summer. What do you suggest? I have a budget of 10,000 dollars, and I need a good case and a good mouthpiece also. Thank you so much!

    How are you setting up these loops? It becomes so annoying to have to continuously rewind a TH-cam video

    Amazing stuff Bob! It's always nice to know I'm not the only one fighting "the resistance" 😂
    What app are you using in this btw?

      Thanks, Lyle. It's called The Amazing Slow Downer, though I don't much use the "slow-down" part; I use it to loop and save those loops. here's more on how I use it bobreynoldsmusic.com/memorize-music-in-a-hurry/
