I would recommend doing french seams. It prevents the muslin from fraying and because you're effectively sewing the seam twice, it gives a stronger seam.
Had a go at making my own produce bags tonight. It's the first time I've used a sewing machine in a long time (I'm 24 years old and the last time I used one was probably when I was about 12 years old). My first bag is ok (For a first attempt), I almost sewed it shut because I was so excited to get it finished - un-picking stitches was so much fun 😂 - I'm going to have another go at making another bag, hopefully this one will turn out even better than the first! Thank you so much for this tutorial ❤
Hannah Edwards that's fantastic to hear Hannah. Once you get started back sewing you'll get the bug! I just wanted to find things I could make! Hehe I hope the rest of your bags turn out well. Mine are still going strong and I'm a total amateur x
i had to smile when you mentioned your haberdashery and the way you buy fabric..in america we purchase fabric by the yard in a department store. ! iam still catching up on old videos and i want to say thanks again..seems nowdays everything is packaged in plastic so we have our work cut out for us in trying to save our planet..! blessings always.
I picked up some net curtains today that were free of charge from a charity shop today to make some produce bags, super light. Great idea about the shoe laces 👍🏻
I've just come across your video as I was planning on getting my sewing machine out anyway to repair some clothes. I'm gonna give this a go! I shall check out your other videos - you are so calming and cheery!
I can't wait to dust off my machine and sew some of these! I have a cheap pack of baby muslin squares I'm going to cut up! And possibly also going to make some wipe cloths as in another of your videos. Thank you for the inspiration!
Awesome! I’ve been wrestling with the idea of buying produce bags for a long time now and I never once thought about just making some 🤦🏻♀️ so happy to have stumbled upon this video, I can’t wait to give it a go!
I bought a extra light white see thru curtain from a thrift store. I paid less than 2 CND$ and it will make a lot of bags. I think that fabric is quite strong and will be able to manage a lot of products without breaking. For the string, I bought a roll of nylon twine from the dollar store. As I found it too thin, I crocheded a chain with it to make it bigger. Et voilà. Now what fabric should be used for powder goods like flour, sugar or spices without adding too much weight as some spices can be expensive. I will try extra light nylon from a old bag used in mens stores when you buy a suit. And I can have that long zipper in bonus for another project.
Wow you're a pro for sure! nice DIY ing. I use jars for flour etc. They weight the jar first and then take that off so you are not charged for weight. I also use canvas bags I got from a zero waste shop.
Do you use it for pastry and baked goods too? 😊 i definitely will try muslin. I bought some super heavy ones from a shop, but not too keen on those as it adds a lot to the cost 😕
This was great! Thank you. By chance would you what type of material would be best for rice, pasta etc? I’m looking for a light weight material but with holes that rice won’t go through.... would anyone know? Much appreciated! Xoxo
I've wondered what type of material can be used to make these. Muslin is lightweight, but if you don't have it, what's the next best thing which won't add weight to the store's price per pound scale?
I used an old net curtain. Really light and reusing
Rosie Hoy net curtains are a great idea. My nana use to have them all over the house! They are always easy to find in charity shops too. X

You have no idea how much i love your channel
Olimpya Eyre you have no idea how much I love having you here! Let me know if there are any videos you'd like to see. Thanks a mil for watching ❤️
I agree 100%

Becca Gloria ah that's lovely to say. Thanks. Let me know how you get on making the bags. Thanks for the support. Delighted to have you along! Xxx
Great! I knew that the material on the bag mattered because of the weight. Thanks for letting us know about the muslin fabric.
Apart from everything else ...... you have beautiful teeth! 💕 Brilliant idea - I cannot understand why anyone would give this a thumbs down 🙄
I've upcycled some of my old t shirts into produce bags! :D its awesome
MyVeganExperiment that's so awesome and much more resourceful! ❤️
Doesn't jersey material add more weight which will count towards price?
@@thellyshirendal2362 you can always weight the fruits before you put them in the bag, it wouldn't word with smaller things, tho, like nuts or spices
I've used old lace curtains for produce bags
Lee Golder such a great idea. And you can find loads in charity shops.
I am just making the cloth cotton wipes, then cleaning cloths and then these lovely bags. I am gonna be busy having fun doing these x
Ecoute haha yes! If you are on insta send me photos of your finished stuff I'd love to see! Happy sewing xxx

This will be a great winter project! Thank you dear🥰
love the chakra music in the background :3
Love the idea. Will be making some soon
This is a great idea Niamh🙋♀️
Thanks for sharing! We all need to ditch those pesky plastic produce bags :)
Chnae Alisha thanks for watching. Yeah everywhere you look there is plastic, so every little bit we can do helps! 😀
Can you make a video about your skin care?
Allenairam Veraus thanks for that request. I'll see what I can do. I think the camera is just making my skin look good 😆
so so useful!!! thanks
Yasmin Padovan great! Let me know if you make and send me photo!
Awsome video. Could I store rice/pasta. Also can I store breakfast cereals/porridge. Thanks. 😘
In the US you can write the tare weight and they will take it off at the register. Great bags, thanks for the tutorial!
Yeah its great over there!
You have made a video on everything! Thank you ❤❤❤
Thank you for watching all the videos! haha
So sad and ridiculous that in Italy we have to use the plastic ones by law, cos of hygiene reasons.
Many are actually biodegradable, but still awful.
Uapa500 that's a crazy rule!!

@@luzorquidea Basta pesare la frutta prima di metterla nelle borsette 😃

Yes we use to much plastic in the states
Do you use it for pastry and baked goods too? 😊 i definitely will try muslin. I bought some super heavy ones from a shop, but not too keen on those as it adds a lot to the cost 😕
Knallbart yes I use for bread etc too. Works a treat.
Thanks a lot, that`s a great idea
Thank you so much for tutorial. Great idea. :)
ah great! tag me in a photo if you make!
Thank you. I will. :))

Try some tulle
Mariella Romero I use muslin cloth. Cheap and easy to get in a habadashery.
*Uh Are SO GOrgeOus...*
These are harder to make than they look. I keep sewing over the holes for the string!
Doro ah no!! Put a safety pin to stop you sewing over the gap! :-)
Thanks! 🌸😎
I've wondered what type of material can be used to make these. Muslin is lightweight, but if you don't have it, what's the next best thing which won't add weight to the store's price per pound scale?
The shop should take off for the weight but muslin cloth is the lightest.... hummm maybe a very light cotton would do the trick.
You have such pretty skin
Just wondering if any of those bags have split under the weight of the contents or if the muslin is stronger than it looks.
Trying mine, I'll let you know
I have found the muslin frayed so badly. I even tried to over lock it and use pinking shears too! How did you stop yours from fraying?
yeah mine does fray a bit but I don't mind. sorry I'm not more helpful.
I guess u will have to overlock them first n then stitch
I think a French seam would stop all the fraying
after that comment at 1:10 I subscribed xD that cracked me up!
Stutz Bearcat thanks for subscribing!!!
More nuts for my bucks!
Terry Loughran totally dude! 👍
