I crochet those out of cotton yarn. I also make wash cloths, dish cloths, place mats, pot holders etc. I keep a bag with yarn and hook in my car for when I have to wait anywhere I can make a few. My friends and family love to get them as gifts.
Love this! I made a tonne of these from an old T-shirt. I left my edges raw though, I didn’t turn mine inside out to hide the stitching because I like how they look with the contrast zigzag stitch showing.
FINALLY someone who does an inside/out method! i was wondering if it shouldn't be done bc of thee added bulk of the seam. but looking at yours it doesn't appear to have any. i've mde the the other way, but they seem so unfinifshed nd i just don't like how they look. if i had a surger or maybe a more expensive ewing machine where i could do a satin stitch it would appeal to me more. but this is perfect. for those interested keep in mind that if you cut the corners off up to the seam line and take something like chopsticks or a pen and poke out your corners you will get a more crisp corner. i'll be making mine with a microfiber on one side and a terry cloth on the other.
I love the concept of making the most out of what you have and respecting our wonderful environment at the same time. I will definatly use this idea to gift my beautiful friends xx
I have just found your videos a few days ago, and am enjoying them very much. I live in Tokyo, JAPAN, and unfortunately we are very late to being sustainable, and being green. l will try to do and enjoy them as much as I can from your ideas. thank you for your beautiful videos!
very elaborate beginning to end (hope "elaborate" it's the right term) - I now know what to do with grandma's beautiful old towels that are too thin for using them as regular bath towels :) the idea of collecting thd wipes in a little cotton bag and right away washing it with its content is amazing :)
love that you make these! We make family cloth ( a family of women) for use instead of toilet tissue, and only for pee, lol. These have been washed about 275 times and still look great. Flannelette works great. Saves alot of paper. Also make our own F.h.p.s.
I use reusable wipes too. I also keep them in a glass on the counter and a bag handy to wash! The comparison ends there however. I actually went on Etsy to a shop and supported a small business. I used someone who was eco friendly and packaging conscious. I will sew some next time but with no appropriate material and my machine in storage(readying for a move) I decided that was my next best choice. As always, just love your videos and also your instagram. You have such a calming presence. Would love to visit and have a cup of tea! Live in the USA, not likely that would ever happen but watching your videos is the next best thing!😊
Lseverett5 hehe we are the same! It's nice to support small eco companies. You would always be welcome at my home for a cup of tea. You never know when you might travel to Ireland. Good luck with your move and many blessings in your new place. Z
Hello!!! Do you think you could tell me what etsy shop you used?? I don't know how to sew but would like to reduce my daily waste using this. Thanks in advance 😇😊
I need to finish the supermarket ones first, then I'm definately doing this. I don't usually wear make up and when I do I usually just wash it off with water and soap, but I do use rose water often, as a treat to my skin after a day of work, so I'll be very happy to use some natural cloths! ☺
I really, really, really like your videos, they´re so relaxing, well done, easy and short to watch and straight to the point and yet so nice! Thank you for sharing!
This is such a great idea! Thank you for showing the technique without the sewing machine as some of us are terrified of sewing our fingers together, haha.
I replaced my cotton balls with organic 100% cotton fleece and filled them with a bit of cotton batting. Did ti about 6 moths ago and they are still going strong. So economical. I even used 100% cotton thread to finish them. They are about 2" squared. They are fantastic for my face toner. Making these types of things is so great!
Idk why but your videos make me happy :) I find myself watching ur videos whenever I have a lousy day. It's satisfying and also makes me want to start my minimal waste journey. Thank you so muchhh
Hi Nimah yesterday I binge watched your videos while hand making these pads! I love them. I used new white washcloths and triple folded them. I get a great exfoliating treatment as well. Thanks so much for sharing this DIY ❤!
I’m going to definitely do this one Niamh. The idea of rinsing and placing used pads in a cotton bag is a good one...I was wondering how to deal with used pads. 💚
Hi Niamh. I did this as a result of an earlier video you made. I made mine with flannel fabric I had and I wash them just like you suggested here. They work great and it feels good to know that I'm doing less when it comes to disposables. Today I'm going to make your produce bags. (: 0
Thanks for sharing this lovely video. Have you checked out Halo makeup remover pads? They are washable and can be reused and don’t need any kind of chemical or makeup remover to remove makeup. I recently bought them. And the makeup just comes off with water.
Wonderful idea! I had cut up some old, torn cotton pajamas to make little cloths, but they are fraying and aren't very absorbent, I'll try this method next time! I'm curious, do you make your own makeup? You always have very simple, fresh makeup and I love it xo
what a wonderful idea 😃, im glad i found your youtube channel.. 😊 can i make it a substitute of using cotton balls for facial cleanser, right? 😃 thank you very much 😊💕
Hi Niamh, another fab video! I have a small request - I’ve seen online people using conkers as laundry detergent. Please could you do a video on it with your views and if you’ve tried it out before? I’m really quite intrigued! If it works this means I basically will never have to spend money on detergent again as conkers are everywhere!
Thanks! I have heard about the conkers. They are used in a similar way to soap nuts. I have heard they are not as good though and don't create as much suds. I went out to collect this year but I was too late and the squirrels had got them all! if you dm me on insta I can find you a recipe of how to do it though...
Super simple! Without a doubt I'm doing this. So when they are all used up, I wash them in the washing machine while they're inside the cotton bag? Can I wash them with clothes?
yeah towel is a great idea. yeah its the shikakai powder. I am very impressed. I have only used a few times so I will give it a month or two before I have made my mind up. It's super messy!
Hi ! Thank's a lot for your wonderfull videos. I'm in love ! :) I have one question : why do you use double faces for your pads ? Just one isn't enough ? Thank's for your answer.
Any tips on finding cotton fabric in a charity shop? I could totally make these, and I'd love to upcycle fabric, but it's hard to know what is cotton just by looking at it.
aha practice makes perfect... the more you look at labels in shops the more you can see what cotton is... try a cotton towel maybe or a bed sheet if the tags are still on them so you can see..
Natalie Peake awh delighted to hear! I don't have a face wash but I use almond milk or oil as a make up remover. I use rosewater on my face for cleaning. I must try formulate a face wash!
Yeah you could but if I used it to take make up off then I would have to wash and I would be wasting face cloths. Face cloths can hold bacteria if not washed regularly.
Buy you need to use some everyday, a washcloth is bigger and you need many just for a month. Smaller is easier, faster and doesn't need an entire load for one month.

Hello!!! Do you think you could tell me what etsy shop you used?? I don't know how to sew but would like to reduce my daily waste using this. Thanks in advance 😇😊
I decided to crochet mine bit i was too lazy to follow any actual tutorials on how to crochet a flat square, so they're all a little wonky😂
I need to finish the supermarket ones first, then I'm definately doing this. I don't usually wear make up and when I do I usually just wash it off with water and soap, but I do use rose water often, as a treat to my skin after a day of work, so I'll be very happy to use some natural cloths! ☺

How do you make rose water?

Great way to use my dressing gown , that I don’t wear anymore . Thanks for another great video .
I crochet mine with out of scraps of cotton yarn and use them as wash rounds too. Gently exfoliates too.
This is such a great idea! Thank you for showing the technique without the sewing machine as some of us are terrified of sewing our fingers together, haha.
hehe I have mine on a slow setting because Im the same! x

I used an old t-shirt. I love them!
whydidppltakemyname old t shirt! Gotta love it!
Those make up wipes are so cute and beautiful, you made them look so luxurious 😍

Debbie Stevenson oohhh nice! If you have a photo send to me on insta. X
I made some period pads with old nappy and T-shirt and cut up a towel for feminine wipes
I love using my reusable micro fiber cloth :) maybe I will sew these someday
Great idea re-purposing a blanket!
Michelle H my house has so much junk I never need to buy anything! Haha :-)
I make my own pads months ago. Maybe my are not that pretty but works!!!. Thank you ❤️❤️🧡
I’m going to definitely do this one Niamh. The idea of rinsing and placing used pads in a cotton bag is a good one...I was wondering how to deal with used pads. 💚
Ally Irvine haha yeah it's works good! Send me photos if you make. X

lovely to hear Doro, make sure to send me photos on insta when you make. I love seeing other peoples creations x
Incredible diy!! Do much helpful!! Thank you so much for the share!
Ah great to hear!!!
I find sewing all around and unpicking the gap needed to turn it out, gives us a pin pricked seam. Hope this makes sense. Thanks for you video
Hi. You mention putting on your favorite music while making these. I'd love to know what your favorite music is!
Thanks for sharing this lovely video. Have you checked out Halo makeup remover pads? They are washable and can be reused and don’t need any kind of chemical or makeup remover to remove makeup. I recently bought them. And the makeup just comes off with water.

I wash them in the bag with clothes... but its up to you!
@@FairylandCottage Thanks!
I usually use a softer washcloth to take off my makeup.
Kathy B.
yes maybe a towel material would work nicer for you. x
Great video! I used an old towel to make mine.Your hair looks lovely and shiny. Is it the new hair powder you bought? 💚
yeah towel is a great idea. yeah its the shikakai powder. I am very impressed. I have only used a few times so I will give it a month or two before I have made my mind up. It's super messy!
Thanks so cool love it lol
Now I understand very clearly. You are the kind of wife my husband wanted.🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
hahaha :-) making products at home so you can save money!
@@FairylandCottage You are so wise. 😊🌹👍
Hi ! Thank's a lot for your wonderfull videos. I'm in love ! :) I have one question : why do you use double faces for your pads ? Just one isn't enough ? Thank's for your answer.
I'm lazy and use one side one day and the other the next day... you could totally use one sided... :-)
@@FairylandCottage ahaha I totally understand. Thanks !! So it will be only one sided for mine. ;)
Thank you
What type of fabric is that?
How do you remove mascara or lipstick from the pad? how do I wash them? Thanks for the video its awesome.
I rinse straight after and it usually helps.... but they will never be pure white after the first use...
@@FairylandCottage thanks
Lovely idea
Amazing!
Love this idea...what do you wash them with?
Aminah Mosley nothing special. I rinse them straight after using to get out the main stain and them wash them altogether with the detergent I make.
Any tips on finding cotton fabric in a charity shop? I could totally make these, and I'd love to upcycle fabric, but it's hard to know what is cotton just by looking at it.

Good way to save on the earth
What can be used as a makeup remover for mix skin please?
ah I use my cleansing powder... I have a video for it...th-cam.com/video/i23a0PMN-yI/w-d-xo.html
Such a great idea! :) But mines came out dirty from the washing machine :(
So great...thank you.
Do use a homemade makeup remover, if so do you have a video fr that?
I do. I alternate from evening primrose oil to homemade almond milk. Here is a video on the later...th-cam.com/video/AVNIAFgYfBY/w-d-xo.html
How do I know what’s good for my face? I don’t want the fabric to be too harsh. Do you know anything I can use?
cotton should be ok
Love! Thank you :-)
Brilliant.
Smart ♥
Great video, kisses from Croatia
Ivanica thanks for watching! Kisses back from Ireland x
@@FairylandCottage Can you make a video about your oil makeup remover you used here? :)
Thank you ma'am
What do you use as a make up remover with these pads ?
Clare Hill I use evening primrose oil.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great!
You are so pretty ♥
thats very kind of you to say. xxx
what kind fabric you use??
Fairyland Cottage oh recycle too, thank you.
If you cut the corners after you sew the squares would be more pointy
Thanks! x

You leave them in the bag in the washing mashine?
Sanna von Borwin I do indeed! Otherwise they go all tiny and get lost in the machine! :-)
if you ate able to make this is good..but me I have not machine and either I can not hand work..
I just a washcloth
I have been using cloth wipes for about five years. Mine are nowhere near as pretty as yours. I use old bath towels and cut them into squares.
bath towels are great!
Hi
I love you.
Instead of giving it to charity I’m keeping it for myself
Kailee Palardy no point giving stuff away if you can get use out of it :-)
In
Seems like that would be a wash cloth. And if you really wanted to contribute to zero waste, don't buy makeup.
good for you being make up free.... not everyone is.. :-)
