    Love Sunday Bikes. I love my Soundwave 20 inch. But after buying it, I'm broke. LOL hopefully next year I can get me a 29in Sunday. Also a thing I think that gets understated is the company's customer support. Their warranty department and customer service is second to none

    • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man, I am really enjoying this bike, riding it almost daily. I wish I experienced the customer service first hand ... but I’ve messaged them on IG and also sent them an email with pictures and never received a response. Probably because they’re overloaded ... but still, wasn’t ideal. Anyway, I should give them a call because I do need some parts for my 2020 bike, and I’d like another set of the 2021 29er handlebars so the riding positions are identical. How’s the Soundwave? I want to get a smaller bike to learn bunnyhopping and small aerial stuff.

      @@dadmodewheeliegang Love my Soundwave, but admittedly I went overboard. My birthday was coming up ( turned 46 )and when the wife asked what I wanted , I said the Soundwave. The things a beast. All aftermarket Odyssey parts, lifetime warranty on the frame, forks, bars and cranks. But, if you're just planning to ride casually and not do anything too crazy, get yourself something in the $500 range. Just make sure it's got a fully chromo frame and sealed everything.

    I picked up my Army Green Sunday High C 29er about a month ago BUT with a black Sunday seat!! 😎 Free swap for the brown one. Don't ask LoL. Previously I owned a full suspension 29er MTB that I sold this past April for $2K and I used 1/4 of that to purchase this bike. I'm having a blast on this bike and ride it wayyy more often than my previous MTB. Especially around the neighborhood with my son on his Cult Devotion 20.
    I like the fact that this bike is a little under the radar because it keeps prices down. 👍 Currently looking into getting the Sunrise Fade for the wife.
    EDIT:
    Purchased the Sunrise Fade about a month ago for wifey and just put a deposit down for another matte green one for her brother scheduled to arrive in a month.

      Man, that’s a great idea to have his-n-her bikes, and the new version is just a little bit more usable as a “daily” than the previous one. I have some great converted xbikes, but I almost never ride them because I’d rather be sitting upright, in command, on the big bmx. With the coming of winter, I’m considering some knobbie 29’s so I can keep playing when it gets a bit muddy.

    • @dadmodewheeliegang

      I think it depends on what you're looking for. The Sunday is a well built bike, but I'm not aware of them doing anything for the BikeLife community, whereas SE created the movement and the community, and continues to invest in hosting rideouts, sponsoring rides and riders, etc. I don't see Sunday doing that with their 29" bike, they seem more focused on their 20" customers.

      I would love to spend some time on a GT! I love the frame design near the neck, but the upside down vbrakes trip me out. Easy to adjust when the bike is flipped I’m sure. Mostly, I couldn’t find the GT I wanted to try, and I think the ones I wanted to check out were north of $650. In any event, I’ve spent several hundred miles on a new Big Ripper and I’m now playing with a Monster Quad, so I’ll be putting out an in depth review video for those models in the coming month or so. • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 30T fits without issue, but on some 33's and 36T, you need to space the sprocket out a little from the BB so it doesn't rub on the chain stay (the part of the frame going back to the rear axle). If you put a 19mm spacer between the bottom bracket (BB) and the crank arm and sprocket, make sure you add the same size spacer on the non-drive side so your pedals are the same distance from the BB on each side.

I never owned a BMX before so I have no experience - would you recommend it or should I get a city bike with gears instead? Hi Mac, this bike is great, and can handle small hills with ease. If you have anything decent, it will be a challenge with the single speed, but folks are regularly riding these bikes 20-50 miles at a time and they are doing pretty well. I have a 2020 and I changed out everything you mentioned except the seat. For the breaks I just swapped to softer pads, changed the gearing and handle bars for the new ones. I can’t stand the bike life scene.. I think it’s a little cringe, but the bike is nice to cruise around on.

  • @devinbyrnes8058

    I don't like quick releases on my city bike's seatposts. Makes me nervous when I pop into a shop.
    Water bottle mount is awesome. I would put a lock there myself, but just the option to carry something is good.
    Steel is real.
    I test rode a bike from their sister company, the Fairdale Taj 27.5. Same brake system as the 2020. The Taj is low priced, so if I have to change the pads or the whole brake system it is not a huge deal. No bottle mount either.
    The Taj feels like it falls way more onto the Cruiser side of a BMX Cruiser. Where would you say this bike falls?

    • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, I’ll never go back to a “U-brake” again, no matter what brake pads are used. At a minimum, I need the “V-brake” style, so the 2021/2022 Sundays and Se Bikes are my go-to bikes these days. I think the High C is an incredible value for the overall construction and build quality. It’s not perfect, but it’s a great start. I haven’t spent time on a Taj (never seen one in person, actually, on any rideout I’ve been on), but I personally don’t like the idea of 27.5” because getting tubes or tires might be an issue because they’re less common that 26”/29”

    • @devinbyrnes8058

      @@dadmodewheeliegang You are right about tires. I checked it out before buying, you are limited in choices and likely have to rely on online shops. The other options are to run fast rolling cross country mrb tires. Tubes are not a problem as it is a common mtb size. SE Bikes although today is popular for #bikelife ( big BMX bikes ) have deep roots in BMX. They deserve this boom in their brand. • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me, the stock pads ate into my rim so fast ... audibly an issue, so I swapped to Kool Stops and was much happier. I rode it for about 3 months like that, and at Christmas I swapped the entire brake assembly for a hydraulic Magura system, which has been pretty awesome. Stopping power is way up, but the main benefit for me is less overall braking effort so I have less hand/forearm fatigue. Used to be my right arm would tire out during a long wheelie (1-2 minutes), but with the hydraulics, I’m finding it’s my left arm that is now the weak link. I’m going to do a new video soon showing all my mods to the bike, gearing, wheels, tires, brakes, bottom bracket, etc. stay tuned for that in the coming weeks

    • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jay it’s just preference, going to 30T up front. I think it’s easier to carry long (1minute+) wheelies with a 30/15, and the 28/15 I think I’m spinning too much and using too much energy pedaling instead of pedaling harder with the 30 and then coasting/cruising more while it’s already up in the air. The 28 does make it pop up super quick, and I don’t mind leaving the 28 on, but it doesn’t match my 2020 bike, so I want the gearing to be the same for consistency while I’m still learning. Man, riding for work AND pleasure sounds good! I don’t have a real commute anymore due to Covid and working from home. I’ve pretty much ridden my bicycles more than I’ve driven cars this year, which is incredible when I think about it. I used to try and drive 15-20K miles a year, but definitely not anymore. It just takes too much time

Others say do 24" since I already have a beach cruiser and can run the dog while with him. Without the dog, my son and I can romp around. What do you think? • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, and honestly, at your size, the 24” will still be too small. Sure, the wheels will be “stronger” if you land crooked, but for the most part, you’ll be cramped and it will be impossible to sit and pedal on that bike (trust me, I just sold my 24” Sunday Model C three weeks ago). I am all about the 29” bikes for adult sizes these days ... with only the fat tired 26” bikes (SE Fat Quad, Fat Ripper) being another viable option, albeit slightly heavier and slower.

      I think the red version is gorgeous in person, but both bikes are nice. I went with green because I liked the simple aesthetic and especially the brown seat. I think red is more appealing for the wheelie crowd. You’re pretty lucky there are shops in driving distance with new bikes! Everything in the Bay Area feels sold out, and Facebook marketplace is full of $1,000+ Big Flyers and up. $1,200+ Big Rippers. Having ridden both, I stand by my assertion that the High C is the best bang for the buck at its price point.

I got him a Walmart bike with training wheels back then. Took the wheels off after some time. He got pretty good so step time to freewheel. Then I went to target last week and saw the mongoose and got it. Suprised him after school for no reason. Man, it was pure junk after really working on it. You could adjust the brakes ever as it was always off. Other things were cheap and annoying. I got fed up and just went into a shop and they had 1 18". He said not trying to be a car salesman but if you follow the market, these things are insanely hard to get. They're flying off the shelves. I got it and in the 3 hrs all the things I was looking at were gone. Glad I got the only model as they said they won't have any for 6wks. He loves it as it actually works with quality parts made in the USA versus companies that went big business and went on volume from China over quality. So this should be fun tomorrow

      Hi, I’m 5’11” and it feels a little cramped to be seated and pedaling … raising the seat 4-5” up from the bottom helps and it’s much more natural at that height, but the seat then gets in the way a little for other tricks or hops, manuals, etc. I did add a different handlebar (+1.5” taller), and after riding for some time with it, I could go to a 9” bmx bar without issue.

      We are basically the same height, and I think this bike would be easy for the commute. You may want to consider a slightly taller handlebar if comfort is the priority. Between my 2 bikes, one has a handlebar that is 1.5” taller, and that bike just feels much larger and more comfortable. However, it is not as agile, so I don’t use it as much for wheelie practice, and I added a front rack/basket from Origin8 to carry groceries. It still wheelies even with the added weight of the rack. I will also say I think these bikes will seem a little heavier than your Rockhopper. I have an old 1993 Rockhopper that I’ve been converting to xbiking and it’s so light.
