Looking at the folks around the Z28 as the auction started...sure sign the market demographic is aging out & a price drop will start hitting within a decade. Model A's, Model T's, brass-era, pre-war cars, post-war cars, and '50's into mid-'60's cars are a great example of this.
If you pay today's prices you may or will lose you shirt. It's coming. These cars are becoming dated out. Young generations don't have knowledge or interest nor the money.

I recall when the big televised auctions started to barely get or not sell beautiful 30sPackards and 40s cars because more was spent on restoring them and the guys they appeal to aren't around. Some of these cars may get restored. Some of themsome old guy will just take it home because he wanted one like he had and he'll just keep it until he dies

Another interesting video. Obviously, prices are what the market (at the time) will pay. However, imo these seem uniformly high even in 2024. Note: I collect and have won many vehicles on BaT, Cars&Bids and a few at in-person auctions the latter before 2020. Including one RS from this era. ‘Projects’ in general and esp where much of the hard stuff is left to do typically don’t get premiums like this. Maybe exotic Italians or 911s or XKEs - even then most buyers want them left w/“easy” stuff. But, these bidders here at this auction seem to want big Chevy projects and/or got wrapped up in the bidding. It happens. 😊

Seems to me you could find one in decent shape already painted and semi restored and running strong for nearly the same money. Crazy prices, 15-20 yrs ago those cars in that condition would be 2,500- 7,000 k tops

When I was a kid, my dad had a Ford pinto with a 351 Cleveland in it. Had wheelie bar, I was 17, he would never let me drive it, even told him he could be with me, still wouldn't let me
in 69, Z/28s never had big blocks or automatic transmissions. If it ever was a Z/28, which I doubt, it seems every thing that made it one is long gone. Its just another rust bucket that needs 10s of thousand of dollars of work to be a driver.

It’s become fashionable to overpay for everything. Unless they are restoring these cars themselves, it’s safe to say they will have 1000 plus hours plus parts. Folks, that’s over 100k. Is it worth it? We need price correction and only one event will do that..... crash. I had a 65 Chevelle SS, 327, 4sp......in the mid 80’s. Got in it and drove the wheels off it ......$700. Road Runners, Chevelles......, could easily pick one up for under a grand. My trophy find, my 69 A12 Super Bee... $500 in ‘85 and I still have it. A buddy bought a Yenko Nova a short time after.....$1,000...... sold it to the Pres of Yenko Club for 20k. The horrid hobby by the common man is being destroyed by people that are seeking a flip. If one could go back to the 80’s and stock em in a barn........ the government would have a hayday with unrealized capital gains.
I'm a huge camaro /chevy fan. Owned, built, restored alot of them. 1st off when your a camaro guy something that will set you off is someone putting the letter "e" in the name. C A M A R O. no e 2nd it isn't rust free when your showing a rear quarter with rust and you pan up and the trunk channel has rust and you show the hood and front fender and there's rust. Rust is rust and the prices paid were way out of line. It's not the 80s where you could get a great near mint 1 for 10 grand. Times have changed and so has peoples ideas of a good price for a ruff car. Good luck.
It was a cream puff compared to a car that spent its life in Ohio rust belt. To me, rust is when you can see through it, i.e. rust through. I slipped up on the spelling,. Not worth the re-pload. Those Camaro prices were a joke. You can get a done car for $30K, believe me I sold my 1967 RS in black at Mecum Auction for $32K and these projects are gonna take that much to complete. Those we $10K cars all day long.
The people paying those prices for those junk cars are the problem with the prices of junk cars and they deserve every last bit of lost money on fixing their rusted out smashed up pile of car. Most of the people who buy these vehicles will be the same as the ones who had them previously saying they gonna restore it while it turns into a pile of rust in their driveway.

Folks it’s not the 80s anymore….do people realize if they ever restore it correctly the car sells upwards of 2 or 300 thousand….you will make your money back easily With the prices these days….I admit it’s a little different on the price for starter cars but that’s just how it is now
