Harry Kane has had a rather interesting summer. With so many teams in need of a world-class striker - no club seems to be matching the fee Tottenham seek for the England captain.
Despite one year left on his contract and both Manchester United and Bayern Munich expressing interest, Kane doesn’t look set to leave North London in the summer.
Is that a smart idea for the club not to cash in on the 2nd highest Premier League goalscorer in history? Jon Mackenzie is here to make the case that now is the time for Harry Kane to leave N17.

Don is great. Would love to see him start next time but his substitution into this video was really impactful. He brings an energy to the team that was missing.
Heung Min Don
It was a good debut performance. He should be happy with some pre-season minutes. They way he pointed at the boxes and said ‘euros’ instead of ‘pounds’ was the highlight.
He’s got a lot of potential so let’s not put too much pressure on him.
@@IncredibleMet Did not expect the callback to Jon messing up the currencies. Brilliant
The guy’s substitution is like solskaer in cl final in 99
Bring him on for the last 10 for tiring brains
Thought experiment for Spurs:
If you didn't have Kane in your squad, would you pay around 80mil to loan him in for one season knowing there's no guarantee that he'll stay?
Who would be the alternatives?
You're paying the market rate, so yes
@@CatchMeOnPort8080 Alternatives like hojlund cost around 80 mil, but you would probably offer 5/6 year contracts, so no it's not worth it for one Kane season
@@mysteriousgames69Of course it is. Both strikers are overpriced and there's better options in the market.
You can put Udinese's Beto doing Kane's job and he costs at max, 25 mil
@@CatchMeOnPort8080get toney now when he is banned then stick with richarlison till December
Any club will be willing to take Kane on a free next year. He will probably move to United or Madrid/Barca over Bayern/PSG, that is why these clubs will have to pay up to secure his services right now.
It would be incredibly foolish for Spurs to let Kane leave on a free next season because you can bet your bottom dollar that he'll be going to and strengthening immensely a direct rival like Man Utd. This is a great opportunity not only to actually get some money out of the situation, but also to get Kane out of the premier league where spurs would otherwise have to compete against him.
Sell to united 60m plus Maguire plus martial
@@saqib7965spurs would probably sell their left ball before selling their striker to united
Man Utd direct rival to Spurs?! 😂😂 you are funny @chango98
Joke's on Levy; Harry could easily just leave for free next season to join the club HE wants, not Levy.
Even getting Europa League with Kane would be enough to cover the money. There is no need for top four. You also can't can't just earning but the extra money from the extra matches and the extra media coverage and so on for being in Europe.
The revenue for the club would also go down without their talisman during the season. Far less interest for the matches from Spurs fans etc.
I love the fact that the presentation was not done by only one person, the entry for the new person makes it more interesting and makes me stay intrigued for what he brings to the clip
As a liverpool fan, similar thing happened during our time and it hurts so much to see players like Torres, Suarez and Coutinho left. It is time for Spurs to start to rebuild with youth which may take a couple of years before start challenging for titles again
The issue is levy won’t rebuild. He’ll pocket the money.
*they start putting on pressure again
A couple more years? 1961!
Challenging for titles? 🤣
@@a.demifemiflapo5795he did not say win. He said challenge
The overriding factor for me is that Kane wants to leave. So long Harry and thanks for all the goals.
That Don substitution was a stroke of tactical genius, then bringing Jon back after he’d had some time on the bench, great stuff.
But what do the underlying numbers say about Don's performance?
Great first appearance Don. Loved the energy & analysis!
A sudden and unexpected Don Ma. I am here for it, great addition to the team
Got to bleed new signings into the team with some short sub appearances first
Love the Cov kit representation!
Great video! Loved the disclaimer at the end!
Kane has given his all to the club. Even if he leaves, he'll forever be remembered as the best. The romance is safe.
They reached the UCL final without him and might have had a better chance of winning it without him being rushed back to the starting line up.
Delusion Kane on crutches better than the whole spurs squad combined
No.
No they won't
They reached the semi finals because of kane, what are you on about?
@daviskhassim9173 they reached to the semis because of Son
Agreed. I would sell Kane. And play Son as a number 9 and use the money on a CB and winger to replace Sons previous Left wing position.
Or use the money to buy Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic and a centre back.
Levy is being an idiot not cashing in.
Ange Postegoclu is a fantastic at using funds wisely. He will find the right player for his team for a low cost.
All this really tells me is how perfect Kane would of been for City
Kane has proven what an adaptable striker he is with all of his managers. I wouldn't say that his profile isn't right for Ange's system, but more that he's too used to taking charge of build up play because he was always the most capable. Even if you look at last season he was still building up play from deep, but ended up with the most headed goals in a single PL season. All Ange has to do is tell him he can chill on trying to do everything himself and focus on what he used to do for us before he became our playmaker.
We should still sell him though. Keeping him with a miracle being the onoy way to get him to sign is just stupid 😂
I think he can be convinced if the new manager is really that good, cuz improvements will start to show. Also, remove Kane and put Richarlison (lol) in his place and well… Good luck battling relegation.
I think it would be a waste of Kane's abilities to stick him to a positional 9 role
THANK YOU again for actually taking a look at the numbers. I would love to see more of these videos with multiple presenters to fully cover complex topics.
Never thought I would see a cov shirt on Tifo! Love the videos!
The one blue square to the right of the crest though
@@cowboycatss I have never noticed that before now I can't unsee it 😂
Nice to see Don in one of these vids, keep up the good work guys! ❤
Cheers Tifo, Monday morning dagger to the heart
He's our greatest ever player, can't bring myself to accept all the logic and rationale in this video
It'll be a good cope when he does go mate
Laughs in Greavsie.
@@aidanmagill6769 with all due respect mate, greaves would be a league 1 player at best in todays game.
@@EvieWillNotDie and Harry Kane would struggle to get double figures in Greavsie's day.
@@EvieWillNotDiethat’s why a player’s greatness has to be viewed within the context of their era. If greaves would’ve been a better player with all the advantages players have now with diet / training / recovery etc then that would make him greater. I wouldn’t argue either way on this because I didn’t watch Greaves in his day but virtually all decent modern pros would be better than the best of the best 50 years ago
Great video!! Well explained and great details 👍🏾👍🏾 I think we should definitely sell if he's not signing a new contract and get a striker that fits Ange system
The Cov city shirt looking spectacular
As both a Spurs and Kane fan you got me convinced, sell now and get the right type of players inn.
I've always wondered and tried myself to find it but can't so now I'm asking here in the comments haha. What is the program he uses in video to show the positioning and movements and also draw lines? Thank you
A cov shirt!!!! Well done sir
As a spurs fan, I think we should sell him now as it's going to be a tough season regardless of whether we have him or not. No better time to lose him and face the music and start a rebuild with a large chunk of cash
70m plus maguire that's equivalent to 100m
Spurs don't need the cash, we're the most profitable footy club in the world. The problem is not a lack of cash but that ENIC won't spend any of that profit on making us a winning footy team because to them we're just a business with a nice cheese room and an F1 karting track (while us fans just see an empty trophy cabinet).
But what about Kane himself - does he have a say? I doubt he would like to spoil his comfort by changing leagues and countries. Furthermore he is very close to beat Sheerer as the PLs top scorer.
@@psbarrow if you watch the vid, you can see that kane isn't the type of striker that fit to ange style of play. It makes sense for spurs to move harry kane with 100 mil for them to buy a striker that fits with ange tactics...
@@username22571 Whether Kane fits Ange's system is for Ange to decide, nobody else - not me, not you, nor the clowns in the video.
you are right but what you havent taken into account is kane had only two training sessions to adapt to the new system and he is good enough to do so with time and will score bags of goals in the system
Doesn't matter really, if he doesn't go this summer then next year he leaves us on a free
But is Kane really necessary to play that role? If I was in charge, I'd sell kane and buy a good striker like Vlahovic who will score loads in this system. Kane will leave next year anyway but for free. Rather get the money and buy a good replacement.
But Spurs aren’t going to win anything this year so what is the point? Selling him now for significant money, and reinvesting is the only smart move. It’s going to have to be done in a years time anyway when he goes for free.
To let Harry Kane leave on a free would be an incredibly Spursy move. Levy not wanting to sell to a Premier League rival is understandable, but if Kane's going to be leaving anyway why not get the £90m for him? Even if they do sell to Man Utd, it's £90m out of their pocket and into Spurs'.
11:08 is exactly why I love Tifo 😂
You didn't count match day revenue in the cl. Which would be very significant. Or the effect on sponsorship deals.
Very good point, but that’s assuming Kane can fire them into Champions league football, which is very unlikely
True but nor did they include Kane's wages or net off the benefits of being in Europa or European conference. I think the main point now is that Spurs won't be in the champions league next season so even if they are in the top 4 (which is by no means certain) at the end of 23/24 the financial benefit will likely be lower than any fee they receive now.
@@Dan-tr5kw "... very unlikely". Noted.
@@Dan-tr5kw spurs were in cl last season.
i like the last part of the video. just completely two sides of sport media: the analyst vs the rorys'
Awesome breakdown. You’ve given me some ideas for my FM tactics 😂
I'm sure Kane can adapt to pinning the centre-backs. Our build-up has been awful for so long, I don't blame him for trying to help them along again. That can change if Bissouma can press-break and Bentancur return to fitness.
100% The only factor I think Jon overlooked is Harry Kane’s ability to adapt to the new system. The whole reason he drops deep is because of years of lack of service and creativity deeper infield. I don’t have any doubt HK could adapt to Ange’s tactical system and flourish like he has in every other system he’s ever played in.
Amazing analytical video 💯
Your analyses have made watching football games more interesting to me. Now I can see a chance or an error from a mile away.
Pains me but really good anaylsis. Be sad to see him go but I agree.
I think it is pretty naive to think that Kane couldn’t adjust his play style to be suit Ange. He didn’t always drop deep, he only did that when we didn’t have a decent 10
The problem with data analysts: they forget players are humans able to adapt and evolve.
as soon as a player reaches 30 years old: “my excel spreadsheet is telling me to sell him”. But Football is different from other sports, is much more difficult to “moneyball” it, although smart data analysis can help.
@@de.n30 fact is he has 1 yr in his contract, and he might not be worth keeping to let him go free in the summer. Just looking at the numbers. An Excel Spreadsheet does work well in this example lol
Kane has been dropping deep for England for years. It's not new and its all he knows how to play
Tifo love the resurgence of honesty at the end , great logical conclusion from a numbers perspective as well as a fans point of view, glad his not going to united
This was great! Love this channel! Are we going to get more analysis of tactics at the Women's World Cup. Loving the tournament so far. Would love to see a breakdown of how New Zealand upset Norway.
The perfect analysis I have ever seen, well done boys, good job
A constructive criticism if I may? When you put up a graphic, can you allow it on screen for a time rather than quickly cutting to presenter wide shots with the table below? Just as I'm reading the table and getting to grips with it, it disappears again. Thanks.
I’m not saying we should necessarily keep Kane irrespective of his wishes and everything already discussed in the video. I think one thing was missed out though … if we get into the CL spots then the type of player/replacement we can attract is significantly better than if we have no CL football
Wondering about the prize money listed. Obviously it's very straightforward what they earned in the Champions League, since prize money is reported on. But the years they've not been in the UCL, they're still making prize money for UEL or UECL. So when it shows the total value of £342 MM earned in the Champions League (and the average of £38 MM), how does that compare to their overall earnings in other continental competitions? What is the value of being in the Champions League specifically, if they could earn, say, £10-20 million a year being in Europa instead?
Yes this is a big hole in the calc. As it the other money they make from gate receipts etc, which are higher on CL nights.
I don’t know exact Europa stats, but I do recall them being *significantly* lower than the CL. Something along the lines of you’d have to win EL to match the prize money of getting out the group stage of CL, like that was the disparity
I think because it’s so unlikely that they would drop out of UEL or UECL altogether without Kane that it’s a sort of irrelevant comparison, like premier league income and UEL or UECL would be the baseline to compare against, those earnings are not majorly attributable to Kane, but I think it’s much easier to argue he is a big part in them qualifying for UCL where that wouldn’t be the norm without him. That and the relative value of UEL mean only considering UCL as the value added make sense in my opinion. Wonder how much the team at TIFO consider behind the scenes without mentioning 🤔
It ignores the prize money in the league, the attraction to transfer targets if you are in the CL etc. Its a very hard things to put a value on which is why the discussion around "is £100m good value for spurs for a single season". Its almost certainly a "maybe". Hindsight will tell us.
Assuming you win the Europa League, including winning ALL you group stage games, you'd earn around £25m. If you drop into the Last 16 from the UCL, the additional earnings would be around £18m. Every game drawn in the Group Stage drops that total by around £350k, any loss by £550K. On that basis, if Spurs started in the Group Stage, won every game and then won the Europa League in each of the four years left blank, it would only increase their average earnings over the full nine years by about £11m.
In actual fact however, in 14/15 they went out at the Intermediate Stage, in 15/16 & 20/21 they went out in the Last 16 and in 21/22 they didn't even qualify from the Group Stage of the Conference League. Accounting for this, they will have earned significantly less, meaning I'd put the extra from these years at an average ballpark of around £3m-£5m, probably on the lower side... i.e. nothing to a EPL side so they may as well ignore it.
Amazing how Kane scores so much even when doing so much.
Nice cov shirt ❤
11:09 it's like the stepdad I never had being forced to yell at me because I didn't clean my room.
With the example you used of Kane in Perth is a bit misleading because Kane needed to get involved in build up play to be able to break the defence down
Dude can you show the big version of the chart longer than 1 second at a time?
Great breakdown
As it was said before, spurs can make son a more central player and richarlison rotating with him would be enough depth for that spot as ange doesnt like wingers that cut in and attack space but more ball to feet 1v1 wingers
Spot on analysis I’m sad to say
Don is absolutely amazing, would love to see him more
Top analysis
This answers the exact two questions I had, thanks John.
I really feel like Spurs not wanting to sell and Man Utd's no longer interested stances are just negotiating posturing.
First one to make a call is out £20m 😂
Utd have genuinely moved on. If they're interested they'll have told him to stay and they'll give him a nice juicy signing on bonus next season when ffp isn't such an issue
I agree. Urgent to sell Kane if you want to compete for top 4. I've even heard United are apparently interested.. 👀
What kit is Jon wearing?
He still have 6 years left in his career and he’s open to extending if he likes the project with Ange. That plus champions league revenue if they qualify this season make it worth keeping him.
Great Coventry shirt
Harry will adapt to AP's style and he will score plenty this season if he stays for me it's a 50/50 call whether to sell or keep, personally I would keep. Great Video
If they can get a guarantee that he’ll sign a new contract come December, keep him. If not, sell him now and eliminate the risk he signs for a direct rival on a free..
All be it rare there is a third option that we keep for a year and he signs a new contract. Means levy will have to offer mega wages though.
More of this stuff!
He missed the shirt sponser money bonus you get when youre in the UCL. CFC and UTD both made 20m more a year from thier kit sponsers probably around the same.
Make a video on coventrys transfers
The general Spurs decline tracks to the squad getting poor defensively.
A good to great defence with the midfield being assembled could make them start to challenge for stuff within a couple of seasons
Do a psg sensible transfers video
As a Celtic fan I’m loving all this Angenalysis
Honestly believe that Levvy is trying to operate a similar strategy to Enzo Fernandez / Mudryk deals and put the foot down in the chance that a £100M bid arrives
finally i get to see don ma in this video... always see his name in the credits
I think Dane Scarlett could be a perfect fit for this ange ball system
What the financial analysis overlooks is that Spurs aren’t in the CL next year, and the PL record doesn’t show that they are more likely to get Top 4 with Kane.
So whilst he might be worth 30-40M to a CL team, if we assume Kane stays and they get top 4, he still won’t be around to help out in the following CL season.
Focusing on CL revenue is much less useful for Kane’s single season worth this year; instead PL prize money is the metric to measure Kane’s worth by for a Last Dance
Daniel Levy just needs to recognize that if their ever was a year to try and rebuild the squad for the future, this is the year. Chelsea and Liverpool, are in complete revamps, while Villa, Newcastle, and Brighton will be overextended with their European adventures. They're not challengers for City, Arsenal, or United's places.
What about the financial implications of losing fan support by selling your greatest ever player? Shows very little ambition IMO
Spot on.
There is one possibility that you've omitted, however unlikely: that he signs a new contract.
Kane clearly fits Munich where they have pace men galore and then he can coast into the penalty box and finish off for them.
Now I can see why lot of FM players convert Kane to Centre Mid. He's got all the attribute as play-making mid and also can score.
For the money u get for Kane u could get 2-3 promising youngsters that you’d have for years. Way better option, Spurs ain’t a competing Team rn so a rebuild approach would be way better
6:16 with Richalson it will always be offside 😆
I feel for Don Ma, not sure how he got the spurs curse XD. Financially speaking the biggest reason for selling Kane is in line with the argument that he makes a lot of money for the club by helping them qualify for the UCL; they aren't in the UCL this year so there's no extra revenue from UCL, and the idea that he will help them achieve top 4 is dubious given the track record.
Perhaps Levy should look at different perspective. Most of the years in the last decade they made to UCL solely because the traditional top 4 were dipped in form, now that they recover plus with Oil Baron Tyneside presence, he should lower his expectation and stop hastily firing manager.
I watch that per season friendly, we played so well but finishing is terrible
I like tottenham but I think they need a massive improvement and it wont Happen in 1-2 years. They need consitency on and of the pitch and youth on the field . So as hard as it sounds I would sell Kane and get someone like Jonathan David and other quality players. Because even if Kane stays he might have 3-4 worldclass seasons left and then Tottenham will have the next problem.
Kane is undoubtedly an ELITE striker and he deserves better than Spurs
We made him an elite striker.
Every elite player deserves better than spurs
@@thfc_jralone1that doesn't mean he should waste his career in a bad run club. He gave Spurs as much ad he could already.
@thfc_jralone If you "made" him an elite striker then just "make" another. He has wasted his career at Spurs and it's time he won something.
All good and well getting the money for Kane but no way Levy will back the manager with the money required not only to replace him but also needs top quality centre backs for ages and still not signed. Profits before Glory!
Could you guys do a video on why it’s only ex players that become football managers(or at least a very large majority of them)
When you’ve spent 20-30 years of your life (counting youth teams as well) doing something, it might be hard to do any other thing
I thought he would fit into Bug Ange’s system, but doesn’t. Funnily enough, he does fit beautifully into Bayern’s. His playmaking style is perfect for them.
Do the spurs end up playing in Europe period without Kane? Genuine question considering I don’t see richarlison holding the torch anytime soon. Son maybe, but idk if you can replace 30 goals
Make a video on Replacement for Harry Kane!
It’s more than just the money that comes with UCL football. It’s status, which allows you to attract better players and elevate the level of current ones
Its absurd to me how clubs don't want to sell players with 1 year left on the contract.. He was there for 10 seasons and now he is gonna win the league so they must keep him? Teams in NBA trade players and rebuild all the time, if i was Levy i would take 80 mil without a doubt.
If manchester united offer maguire and martial plus 65m it's a done deal
that jersey is beautiful
There's no point basing keeping Harry Kane of Ange Postecoglou tactics as odds are he'll be gone by March. 🤨
so Kane, who scored 30 last season, is getting too involved in build up play? 🤔 pretty sure that's not such a bad thing with those numbers, and he could just be more direct if instructed to, bit of a none issue really
having said that I think they should sell and us the money to bring in some re build talent
You got his stats wrong. He had 38 appearances in 2022-23.
It depends on what spurs want. Sell Kane, but rely on richarlison and buy another striker (albeit worse than Kane), or keeping him for a season, which allows them to stay higher up the standings.
Lol, is that your quantitative to do the sums? That's a Big short reference 😂😂
Mara-Don making a splash!
I don't how it would be calculated but also the overall stature of the club gets bigger if the club gets to UCL, thus the overall sponsorship money increases for a time
The best thing for Spurs would be for Kane to sign a new deal however Kane doesnt want to as he knows that he can leave on a free next summer. Bayern know that if they dont get Kane this summer that he can sign a pre agreement in January and thats Spurs biggest fear, i can see Spurs offering to sell Kane in January for a more reasonable fee (say 50 million) then at least they can get some money for him which they can then buy another forward and just use Richarlson or Son till the summer
