I’m seeing the 2.0 version at $5000 off sticker so it ends up being $10000 less than the 3.0. That’s a lot of money. You’re getting a pretty fast car, 0-60 in less than 5 secs, very good mpg, same looks, wide tires, 300 ft-lbs of torque, easily modded engine and Toyota quality for $42k. I’d take the 2.0, because I’m not taking it to the track, I just want a sports car. The 2.0 is also sitting in the middle above the 86 GT and 3.0. I think it’s the best value.
I agree, 0-60 in sub-5 second range is more than enough usable power for most people, unless you are used to driving recklessly fast on the road, or tracking the car. But the 2.0 liters, B48 engine is high compression, 'knock limited', so you can't push too aggressive timing on those engines, even on high octane (I know because I've tried for a couple years experimenting with my BMW 330i G20). Unless you want to do some aggressive tuning, the 2.0 liter Supra is the better buy.
Another excellent review MotoMan! I bought a 2022 2.0. My advice is get this car if you want: -a real sports car -a very quick car for the street -looks that don't blend in -a sublime driving experience (especially in the winding canyons) -constant questions and positive attention
While I do know in the end I would always prefer my 3.0 2021 Supra, I would still like the chance to throw a 2.0 around the track. Just seems like a fun car to drive!

No. You will get owned by STI and then in the snow they will own even harder. Then you will get owned by every kid in a nissan Z on the street. You could have bought the Z for less.

If they tweak the grille and offer a manual they could have a winner with that car, and Toyota may have to drop their price... especially with a C8 starting around 60k taking sales on the other end of the price spectrum.
There's a difference tho. People or dealers are going to have specs on the C8 which will inflate its price which does a whole difference between the 2 vs the mk5 since the mk5 only has its 3.0 base model(51k) up to A91 edition (57k).
@@carboydorifutoparty3976 agreed, I fully expect most C8s you can buy on a lot will be in the $75-80k range. That said, regardless of how those are sold, the more direct Supra competitor will be the new Z, which should undercut it on price and still ship with 400ish hp.
@@Lostsage01 I say it depends on how fast Nissan bring out the Z. If Nissan brings out the Z it'll definetly undercut the current 21 mk5. But if they bring it around the time toyo reveals the 22 mk5 2 things might happen. 1. Toyo is bound to give the mk5 another 50hp bump and some revisions(probably a small bumper change or something including some tuning) now unless the manuel supra rumors are true it all comes down to how much they are(which I can personally guess would be like 53-54k for a manuel model) including that it'd more than likely end up being a flat 12 -high 11s car still sitting at 50k(for the 3.0 base)and 40-42k for a auto/manuel 2.0 mk5(that's if they decide to keep selling the 2.0 to the US market but I dunno if they plan on bumping the power up on the 2.0 also) and probably if they did some changes to the interior it'll sway some people over to the mk5(mainly because of manuels). 2. Now regarding the Z I'd say it be more in the lines of 40-58k for the Z(base - nismo)so it'd be dead set on the mk5s price range including that if the rumors about the mk5 having a manuel is false it'll undercut it in that field including the 2.0 model in that margin but everything else comes down to how it'll perform vs the mk5.

Demand for a manual Supra has fallen on deaf ears at Toyota. According to Toyota’s marketing research team, there is hardly any demand for a manual transmission....we all know that’s completely BS. They likely just don’t want to make a manual for the Supra on their own, or BMW isn’t allowing them to use their manual transmission. Even if a fraction of the people who’ve demanded a manual online actually bought a manual Supra, that alone in my opinion is enough of a business case. Not sure what’s going on at Toyota HQ. Toyota: Well, how about we make a “performance” version of a Corolla and put a limited number of manuals in that? :D People: No, a**hole. SUPRA. MANUAL! Toyota: We think a CVT is a good idea for the Supra for the extra fuel economy :D. People: Wtf is wrong with you? Toyota: Sorry for any inconvenience, please contact customer service :).
BMW doesn't actually care on what toyo does with the mk5. They aren't in any control on what they do to the mk5 since It's all toyo really. By now they would've made a move if they were in any control including that ever since the mk5 came out the Z4's sales immediately dropped and are still pretty low compared to how much the mk5s selling compared to it. Including that toyos already went off and did a bunch of their own things to the mk5 alone that BMW didn't tell ot control them on doing. All BMW is doing is supplying the parts while toyo does whatever they please with the parts and the platform with no limitations.
@Alex Hall by your logic it wouldn’t make sense for any brand to make any type of performance vehicle as since most people don’t drive, or aren’t interested in driving sports cars or sporty cars.
@@MaddNomad1015 what in my posts suggests that I’m saying “enthusiast demand is high demand?” If you actually read my comment you’d see that my suggestion, or hypothesis is that toyota is completely aware of an existing demand for a manual Supra, but they continue to ignore that in favor of maximizing profits, or they’re just out of touch and oblivious.... And on the contrary, in specific niche segments like the sports car market, there is still a business case to be made for making a manual available in cars like the Supra which is why brands like Porsche have continued to reintroduce manuals in their sports cars. As a matter of fact, I think Toyota’s reluctance to offer a manual is a major contributing factor to the low sales number for the Supra. Yes, manuals are dying; so will ICE cars. But there is still substantial enough demand for manual enthusiasts cars today. Manual take rate on a Miata is over 70%. On a Mustang GT it’s around 50%. On a Camaro it’s nearly a 1/4 of all camaro sales. On more direct competitors like the 370z, the manual take rate is also nearly 50% and keep in mind Nissan will be offering a manual in the next Z for a reason. I have had turbocharged 4 cylinder cars before. I've experienced setting at a stoplight with the AC ON. And I've experienced the problems of the car stalling when you let out on the clutch. It iis a royal pain to turn the AC off at stoplights. I said never again back then., and the rule still applies today. Until the turbo spins up, all you have is just another 4 cylinder !!
Unless the car has a minimum of six cylinders, it has very little chance of being in my garage.
Stalling because you have AC on is amateur stuff.
Yeah A/C causing you to stall is a personal problem. I've never ever had that problem and my 1993 civic EG with only 125HP years ago..
@@ImEasyAs Really, I knew just as soon as I replied that some idiot would say something like that. I have been driving manual transmissions since I was a teenager ( trucks, tractors, and cars). All of my cars (with one exception) in the last thirty years have had manual transmissions. Think what you like, but I'm not an amateur And unlike yourself, I'm not an idiot either..
@@QHall86 The car in question was a brand new turbocharged Mustang GT. But on hot days with the AC on, you literally had to rev the engine and pop the clutch or turn the AC off. I haven't had a 4 cylinder since, and I don't plan on it either (problem solved).
@@terry9703 And yet ...you're stalling a late model EFI 4 cylinder car because AC is on. My point still stands ... that's amateur stuff.
Can you chip it ?
I love the new Supra, but woops, the 2.0 has no availability in Canada!
luckily we in Europe can purchase the 4pot with the bigger brakes and the diff.
These statistics only seem to be cool on paper, the 200lbs does not matter at all, it's way slower around corners than the 3.0L Supra.
So the 4cyl is a better track car, but the 6cyl is a better GT car?
Nope. The most prudent way to look at it would be: 'What are you getting for the money?' In this case, the 4 cylinder is a better value overall.
People: We want a manual Supra.
Toyota: We put a manual in a Yaris :D
People: No, we want a manual in a SUPRA.
Toyota: Well, how about we make a “performance” version of a Corolla and put a limited number of manuals in that? :D
People: No, a**hole. SUPRA.

You act like enthusiast demand is high demand. Haha if companies did everything enthusiasts asked they’d go broke.
Manual take rate on a 911 is around 20% despite the fact the the PDK is one of if not the best automated transmission in the world.

Still too expensive. Less than 1 sec faster to 60 than a Miata, $20K more expensive, and no manual. No thanks.
Well the mia is a 14s car vs the 2.0 mk5 being a low 13s car.0-60 maybe similar but the mk5s faster.
There's more to performance cars than just 0-60s.... something something weight distribution, something something body roll...
disadvantages of mk5 supra:
1. Weak engine, to tune 1000 ++ hp
2. only 2 seats
3. Smooth engine sound
Advantages :
1) mk5 is lightweight. Wont need but 850 to the wheel max (comparable to 1100whp mustang)
2) having 2 seats is already weight reduced for half the cars you’ll race.
3) smooth sound? Gtfoh
I thought it was a B48 and not a S30 etc.
S30 is the Z4 - the car, not the engine: BMW Z4 S30i = 2.0 4 Z4 . . . BMW Z4 M40i = B58 6.

Toyota should have put the 2zz engine in it
I can give best advice! buy 2022 230i coupe BMW and bmw interior more nicer and exactly the same car. and starting 36K. don't forget my favor.
This is your best advice? Only problem is that is way slower 0-60 (check the stats), is not a true sports car (it's a sports sedan), has skinny ass tires, weighs 300lbs more and bland as hell (my opinion). If that is what I was looking for, it would be great advice my man! lol!
