- In this video, we take you through the 4th year of Project SECRET journey. This 5-year project is a collaboration between City St George's, University of London and Howden, A Chart Industries Company and supported by Royal Academy of Engineering. The project focuses on improving oil-free compressors, aiming to make them more efficient and reliable, while helping to reduce carbon emissions and support a greener future.
Over the past four years, our team has worked hard to understand how air leaks in compressors affect performance. Through experiments and computer models, and we have come up with new ideas, which are now being tested in prototypes. This video shares the progress made so far, including the development of new designs and the use of tools like CFD and PIV to better understand the flow of air in these machines.
You will also hear about the challenges the team faced, how we worked together to find solutions, and how these changes could make a real difference in industries like hydrogen compression and heating. The video highlights the cooperation between researchers and industry experts, showing how much can be achieved when working towards a common goal.
Looking ahead, the project will focus on testing industrial prototypes and continuing research through the newly formed CERES consortium.
Watch the video to learn how this work is helping to shape the future of compressor technology and support the transition to cleaner energy solutions.
