True, but that’s the whole point - parents who don’t immediately follow up on the first threat end up in a pickle - first they are ignored, then they lose control.
Putin threatening nukes is like a guy threatening to use a grenade in a bar fight: too dumb to realise that if he detonates it, he'll be dead too.
The problem is that the longer Putin is left undealt with, the longer he becomes a madman hiding away in a bunker, trying to prolong his grip on both life and power. There's not much he wouldn't do.

I don’t think they want to openly discuss the use of long range weapons. Therefore the permission is already granted.
As if those missiles will make any difference. First he begged for weapons, then he begged for ammunition, then again he begged for artillery shells, then he begged for F16's, now he is begging for long range missiles, tomorrow he will beg for nuclear warheads only. And every time your idiots called it a game changer. Has he got no shame? How much more will be beg?
No one weapon is a game changer, never has been and never will. There's a lot of moving parts in this, Russian economy is in bad shape, interest rates are running at 19%. The Ruble is not worth the paper it's printed on, apart from China no other Country is trading in it. There's more Chinese Yuan in circulation in Russia and when that takes precedence over Russia's sovereign currency it's not going to end well.
With respect to long range weapons like Storm Shadow missiles, they require U.S. satellites and guidance systems in order for them to strike targets in Russia with 100% accuracy. That would draw the U.S. directly into the war and that's not what they want.
Let's not forget that the sanctions are starting to have an effect and those along with Putin spending more of Russia's GDP on his war machine and not on making everyday Russian lives better, at some point in the near future something is going to break.

We had minsk 1 & 2 and they didn't work. A minsk 3 captiulation agreement isn't going to work either so if you seriously think zelensky should open for a deal with russia then you have to explain why a third deal with russia would apparently work when the first two didn't. The problem was never Ukraine. Zelensky never wanted this war and would have happily negotiated an amicable deal with Putin before to avoid it but Putin would not even consider sitting in the same room as zelensky. It was zelensky who wanted to sit down with Putin to stop the war not the other way around. Now zelensky knows the truth putin is not interested in peace so assuming he is

Ukraine now has the capacity and western support to build their own ballistic missiles. The prolonging the war in to 2025 will ensure the economic collapse of Russia particularly as Oil and Gas prices are forecast to continue to decline into 2025.

Part of the problem is that Putler does not view nukes as a weapon of last resort. Early in the conflict he was threatening their use in order to get what he wanted. Whether that was a bluff doesn't matter, it revealed the man.
I tend to disagree that putin would use nukes to save his motherland. He wants to save his life because if he were to lose this war, it would lead to the end of his regime.

To my mind, and maybe they're already doing this, it makes sense to help Ukraine ramp up production of its own long range systems like their recent ballistic missile so there is no political risk for the risk averse Americans and Europeans.
Exactly what I’m thinking and maybe the US not allowing the Ukraine to allow Storm Shadow is all part of a deception.
Since Russia lowered the bar for nuclear weapons use, it is probably prudent not to supply exactly what their new doctrine states as a reason to go nuclear-

It's not really weak - weakness is when you get threatened and change direction like the West is doing.

Thing is, Russia is expending their strength while using it and letting their army get destroyed. Meanwhile the Western armies are conserved and can be used at the optimal time. A good example of this strategy is how Israel showed restraint against Hizbollah for 11 months, then wiped out all of their leadership after letting them expose themselves.
