I would love to see a wrap up episode at the end that was like a gallery event showing off all the pieces and there you can get after show interviews of each artist and their overall reaction to the experience as well as reaction to what their favorite pieces were of the other artists participating.

I agree, for additional reasons: seeing an artwork in it's finished presentation (cropped, matted, framed, etc...) makes a huge difference in how our brains read the art. I would love to see them properly displayed! Also it would be a great celebration of the artists!

I could listen to Ellie talk all day long. What an amazing articulate poetic woman. And her language is deeply spiritual. I think she must be a woman of faith.

I discovered the Outstanding Artist show a few weeks after beginning the Mastery Program. I feel that the show format is just right. It is inspiring to watch the progress and challenges each artist experiences. In a way, it reminds me of being a part of the Mastery Program community and interacting with other artists in the program. We share our experiences and watch each other grow. Life is about growth and learning, sharing and achievement. We compete for many things without even thinking about it, even if it is with our past self, ego or mindset. The Milan family is a wonderful gift, I am so happy that I discovered them and the knowledge they share with the world.

I like the current format. It is a true competition just like regular life. Only the benefit is, that many or most artists do not, is that they get one in one personal critiques by three awesome artists.

I think all 4 of you make a great team and you are amazing on how you have put this together . I am not a competitive person but I have just watched season 2 and saw the valve of the whole event. I am on my second month of the Milan art institute course and it is the best thing I have done for myself in a long time, it’s been a like a big part of the jigsaw puzzle in my life. I really enjoy Elli Monday motivations they have been like my own inner voice that I don’t always listen to. and Elli just says just what I needed to hear that day. Thanks Elli. 💛

I love the idea of no one getting eliminated and that the final score for overall for the season is what determines the winner. It does sound more difficult though.

I love the show and watched the previous seasons as well. I see that you guys are making changes to improve the format and I appreciate that. I felt that there were portions of season 3 that seemed a little forced compared to the spontaneity of previous seasons. Maybe because you had an external director that had a vision for a format that has already been used for other shows? Not sure. I missed so far in this season the variation in canvas sizes and restrictions on materials to use. I like the idea of artists being eliminated but still having a chance to be rescued. I actually liked that their worked were rated in season 2 so the contestant that got back had shown consistency and definitely deserved to be in the final. It could also be rated related to growth in their practice. That might make things more complicated but food for thought there. The judging is the one thing that you probably need to expand a little more. I love hearing Dimitra’s, Elli’s and John’s critiques but I can see them more as mentors than judges. It would be nice to have at least one judge to be an art collector, a dealer, gallery owner etc. Maybe it can be a guest judge that is different each episode or a panel of outside judges that remains the same. Either way would work. You could also have a combination of scores like the artists score, the Milan’s score and outside judge score with the average or weighted average determining the final score. It would be nice as well, that the each artwork were posted in Art Social or blog so the audience could appreciate them more closely after the episode is aired. Long comment. I’ll stop here. I hope some of my thought sparks new ideas to make the show even better. I really enjoy seeing the challenges and how the contestants grow. I am eager to watched the rest of the season!

I like the format of the show the way it is, but I would like to see more in-depth interviews, and even if the episodes were a bit longer. I do like the idea however, of not eliminating the artists, as least at first, perhaps until the 3rd episode, so you get a chance to get to know all of the artists a bit before elimination. Maybe having a tallied ongoing score. Didn't you do something like that in Season 1 & 2? And, definitely having guest judges, or the audience judging, like they do on AGT.

I like what John had to say about artists of the past who spent years working on different aspects of painting; color for example. He mentioned the care they took and now "we just fling it and sling so fast and sometimes we get it right". This kind of competition lends itself to getting done quickly; four to eight hours. This produces a different kind of painting than an artist like Rembrandt. There is something to be said for both wonderful forms of art. I am amazed at the bravery and fortitude of these beautiful women and wish them all the best.

  • @enidlenzoni434
    @enidlenzoni434 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Being transparent about the evaluation process will benefit you as Milan Art, the artists participating , and those viewing the competition.
I personally feel that a fixed set of criteria for judging in which each criteria is given a score of 1-10, with final tally, would satisfy everyone. The judges should feel happy with this defined breakdown.
The contestents should be happy, and the viewers should be happy.
    Criterias could be -
    1. Creativity, originality, and clarity of the depicted theme.
    2. Artistic composition and quality of overall execution,
    3. Elements of Art such as shape, space, value, form, texture, and colour.
I really like the show and look forward to it each week.
I do feel that it is important not to show bias through editing or personal favourite painting.
Stick with a set of rules, and this should not happen as obviously.
I do appreciate that you inspire, mentor, and uplift the artists. I also appreciate that you have shared this with everyone and, in turn, uplift our artistic spirit also.
One external judge could bring different insights or perspective however it could also be extremely off the mark. Your show is nurturing and not highfalutin!
I also like the opportunity that you provided to the eliminated contestants. Maybe at the halfway point, you could get the eliminated contestants to the judge those still running as a fun thing.
It may also be a learning tool for them too!
It would not be a good idea generally as the contestants suffer from too much self- doubt from week to week.

Oh my gosh I hope that my one comment a while back regarding feeling like the critique seemed super harsh didn’t come across as negative. ! You people are amazing and judging and critiquing is so so difficult as well. Plus….my heart for the comment was directed completely towards hoping that the artists did not receiiiiive it negatively! All the critiquing was done onnnnly to help the artists grow and I may have missed saying that, but certainly have ZERO negative comments towards you all or the show overall. It’s been nothing but a joy to watch and be part of this! Well….I guess something else…..it’s been educational and eye opening for me as well! So thank you!!!

My request for a "tweak" in the next series is that you give us an image of the artwork, whenever you are talking about that artwork. (Such as with image-in-image.) This will increase our ability to follow what you are saying about the art, and learn from it. THANK YOU for such a wonderful series!!! So inspiring...

Hey Jake....how about the "Blindfold Challenge"? Each artist will be supplied a supply bag and they can put the supplies where they can reach them. Put on the blindfold and they have to use each of the supplied items on the paper/canvas provided in a 15 minute window. Whatever they create, becomes the base background of what they have to work with. Why is this a good challenge? Because painting your way out of a mud mess, or too much texture really tests their skill level. Plus you can jazz it up for the viewer by having the artist use creative looking blindfolds. Some of my favorite challenges I have seen you guys do, is the handcuff challenge and the "Oh Crap, It's Raining" challenge. Ester using the end of her hair to paint her mountain scene was awesome. Keep up the great work and looking forward to season four!!

I have been really enjoying the shows. I believe it should still stay a competition. You should get guest judges to judge next time. You could instead (all) give the mid way critiques as I am sure they are helpful and are also interesting to hear. I would love to see a link to seasons one and two, as I have been unable to find them anywhere to watch. The show has been very inspirational to me. I had never done an abstract before, as I had never really seen any I liked. After seeing so many different styles and paintings, I found an abstract style I really liked. I have now painted two abstracts that I love. Thanks for a great series, and for inspiring people to step out of their comfort zones :)

I can appreciate their own critiques and behind the scene stories, as they are always teaching personal growth. I also believe that if you're involved with Art Club, Art Social, or the Mastery Program...how the edited version of the Outstanding Artist portrayed each of them, doesn't fully capture who they have shown themselves to be. For example, I'm sure John's silliness or chattiness was edited for time, lol. I do love hearing them, as a collective think tank, and can't wait what they implement for the next season!

I find the show inspirational and even when the contestants get eliminated it is sad but I think it’s a great learning opportunity for them and for us watching. and they are all such good artists. What I think it might help is to show each artist next to their final picture because at the end I really wanted to see why it was a successful painting or not and sometimes you forget who did what.

I think the show is awesome! I look back at when you were in Arizona and those first students were so lucky to have Elli, John and Dimitri as teachers. I looked back at Elli’s dream to help every day ordinary people become artist because she saw the potential in everyone. And I look at how much it has grown. The families dream has become reality you have all work so hard. I see you all as being so sweet and kind and caring of others. I think you all have done great on the show especially to are you doing it on your own. As you said it’s not some big Hollywood production it’s from your own hard work and imagination. I think it’s excellent! I love the format. I thought it was highly professional. And I love you all as a family who has opened You’re home, you’re minds, giving everything you have to others. I would just love to meet all of you one day and give you the biggest hug imaginable just for being you! I love you guys! Stay true to yourselves. Stay true to your mission. Stay humble and continue to welcome Everyone with open arms. We appreciate so much your willingness to give of yourselves!

For the next season- I like the idea that so many others have stated - guest judges. Although it has to be difficult to judge- I appreciated every moment! Everything said was needed (from the judges). I feel that season 3 was a perfected season 2. You only get better and better. I like the changes every week for the challenges. My favorite part was the critiques. I often found myself comparing my own personal critique to what each judge had to say. One for John… your heart is so soft….. I knew it was so hard for you. But it made us all adore you even more! I loved each and every episode. I need to watch season one and then watch it over again and maybe paint along (pretending to be on a beach in lieu of my 24/7 caregiving for my son 😄). I think season 4 has already perfected season 3 - Zion is going to be present!!!! I have wanted to be an artist my entire life…. Watching somehow helps fill that void for me!!!!! I can’t wait for season 4!!!!!

I've really enjoyed watching all seasons of The Outstanding Artist and am already looking forward to the fourth - after reading about all the behind the scenes drama I'm surprised you're even considering it! I actually liked the format of season 2 where you had the scores of the mini challenges building up - that seems a fairer way of deciding who gets back in at the end, and means we continue to know the contestants better. I felt this season lacked some of the fun and enjoyment we've seen before - I think the artists were always coping with the heat, tiredness, or ants or whatever; so we hardly ever got to see them relaxed and actually enjoying their art - or at least that's the impression I got. Generally it all felt more serious, which of course is fine some of the time.
Something I'd really like to see in the future is painting from life, rather from a source on a screen or printout. Maybe it's just not the Milan Art way, but it would be much more challenging if some of the tasks were to actually paint the landscape in front of them, or a live model, or a still life - of course in their own style.
As far as the judging goes, I'd be happier to watch a longer episode and have less cut out of the show. But I also think it would be better if the judges didn't know the contestants - perhaps have three gallery owners giving comments and scores instead. (I don't think a different guest judge each week would work because I feel the judging needs to be consistent throughout.) That would also avoid the problem of the artists potentially creating work that they know the judges are going to like, and could perhaps encourage more diverse styles of art, which would be more interesting to watch. (I noticed there have been several comments about the artists' work being quite similar ie a woman's face with flowers and a galaxy etc regardless of what the actual challenge was about; and I'm afraid I have to agree that I would have liked to see more differences like we have in past seasons.)
Anyway, I hope my comments have been helpful. And congratulations on producing a reality show in difficult circumstances; I've loved watching!

Love the show-I’ve seen all 3 seasons and you guys do a great job! Definitely think the elimination and competition aspect of the show should stay like it is. Love the idea of having guest judges who are gallery owners/dealers/curators. I also think challenges like using unconventional art materials would keep it interesting, or a brand collaboration challenge where the brand owners are the judges would be cool. Another idea would be to have the final 2 contestants have a couple of weeks break where they get to create an entire collection and how it would be viewed in a gallery. And actually display the two collections in the gallery and judge the final winner based off that and their growth as an artist. Love what y’all teach-don’t let the negative comments get to y’all-can’t wait to see what y’all come up with next!

I think it takes a lot of humility, when you get critical feedback, even if it is in a grumbling spirit, to step back and consider it. Delivery does matter. Even, if you have relationship with the contestants. Maybe the judging and critiques was to harsh? Maybe you could take that feedback and not make excuses like "oh people are just projecting" or being dismissive "oh people can't be soft potatoes in this show its just our format" instead maybe consider "oh hey, maybe there is a way to be honest and direct with a blend of truth in love" You can avoid unnecessary harshness.

It was fun to hear what your behind the scenes experiences were like. I’m hooked on the show. It’s fascinating to see how each artist responds to the challenge and view their approach and techniques. I can’t pick a favorite artist because they have been sharing so much of themselves, I am just happy seeing them grow personally as they strive professionally. The cultural component of the show is beautiful, enriching and fun, and I wonder if they grow more personally when being totally out of their familiar territory. I haven’t seen the previous seasons to compare.

Hello from Australia, I’m enjoying watching your show. Have you considered including a few (2 or 3) masterclasses each season?
By masterclass I mean have the artist watch the judges show what they would have done re a task from a recent episode. As a viewer I would love to see this and it would give the artists a day off from competition. Ps. I’d be happy to watch a 2hr episode

I recently met some of you at the Milan Art gallery grand opening. Hi guys, first of all I want to thank you for everything you're are doing for us artists! I really appreciate every word and move and I´ve already learned a ton. 🙏This is a great and important topic and I'd share my opinion to it. I'm joining the Mastery Program and watching every episode of The Outstanding Artist. I love to see all awesome artists shine and grow. They do a fantastic job! What I don't like is the losing aspect of it. Since my childhood I never liked competitions against somebody else. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS COMPARE YOURSELF TO YOU! Where was I at 2 months ago and what am I capable to do today? That´s what matters nothing else. Only me can know and feel the progress and so I'll grow. I hope it makes sense. In the show somebody is always left behind sad and disappointed. For me - I like win-win situations. Life out there is a big competition. If you play the game ;-) So WHY should artist compare to each other? It doesn't make sense for me. The ultimate thing is to bring winners out the show is to shine together. Nobody is better than the other. We are one. We shine together. We are family. Everybody is a winner! In real life I can paint how I want. I don't have to rush. Why? I'm my own boss. The collectors will wait for my artwork anyway. Yes, I can get better if I decide to do so. Of course I want to grow but I'm always good enough. I am a professional artist already. Because deep in my heart I'm willing to overcome my creatures and go for the light. So therefore, everybody is on its path. The question is ... how do you paint? Are you in your right brain and feeling love joy happiness? Than you are a giding and shiny light for everyone in this world. How much love we put into something matters. Lots of love to all artist lovers. 💫💛🧡❤💙💜💚

My thought for Season 3 was you still have eliminations, but like in Season 2 why not give them points and have the points carry over and then the artist with the lowest combined points in any given week is eliminated as opposed to 1 bad painting and you're out! I think that's a little more fair.

I've liked the show a lot. And regarding something John said here, I understand the fear of appearing biased, but I never thought the critiques or judging we saw were all that was given. (But I've also been a video production professional.) I will say I remember wondering if names were drawn for fairness, in situations like who receives midway critiques first, where artists' easels are set up, etc. BTW, if you ever solicit ideas, I have lots! None are mean or unfair! Just fun & meaningful to art! 😁

I have loved the series! I think it was inspiring and it shows the real challenges that the contestants have to face in each stage and anything can happen. It IS a competition it HAS to be challenging and keep the contestants on their feet. It's easy for people to sit at home and criticise, some of those comments just showed people's own dissatisfaction within themselves and as if they could have done it all better. I'd say don't take it to heart you did a great thing bringing the series to life and giving these artists something extra to strive for and to get out there with their work and push themselves artistically and in growing as individuals.
If it's not practical to have all the contestants stay and receive a final score without being eliminated then just eliminate the contestants. It's a good idea to consider, if it is doable. It's interesting not knowing what's going to happen and who will go but it would also be interesting to see more of everyone's work. I was really surprised to see those eliminated still had another chance to come back which was very cool, so what more could you want? I haven't seen the past seasons as I'm not in Art Club.
I'd say keep on judging but sometimes bring on an extra judge or two in addition to yourselves, it doesn't have to be every time. I don't know if it would be as good if it was only judged by other people, it would depend on how good they were at looking at the different elements and being able to critique what is done well and what is lacking. You could even have guest judges that appear by video without having to be there in person, that could make it easier. Don't forget when we see the judging and critiques, we learn too by watching. For me it is tangent edges that I need to be aware of, I didn't know it was a thing. I've seen it explained in other videos separate to the series and it makes a lot of sense and it was a blind spot of mine.
Competing is healthy and fun, it's all a learning experience and disappointments are part of it too. We have to get over them and keep moving on. It was wonderful to see Greece. The only thing I would say as someone that struggles in the heat is try to have enough shade for those that need it.
The Outstanding Artist series is awesome and you should be proud of yourselves for creating this for artists! It's so impressive.

A good comprise between the current format and the suggestion you received of not having eliminations, would be to have the first few challenges without elimination. For example, if the first 2 challages are "free", we would get to see everyone at least 3 episodes.
The artists could compete to win some advantage, like immunity in a future round or what not, to keep the stakes high in the first challenges.
If there is a constraint on the number of episodes, there could be double elimination later on the show to compensate.o

Wow! you are true artists...very sensitive humans! nice to know. I did watch those episodes. I liked mainly the subjects or theme given to paint everytime. very innovative. Judgment and elimination is accepted process of any competition i suppose. nothing wrong in the format

Great talk enjoyed it. Enjoyed listening to you guys as the family love your show the only thing that I saw in the show that when you were judging them that there wasn’t enough of their peace of art being shown during the judging. Or the elimination. I just wanted to see more of the actual art that they produced. That’s the only thing that I feltwas missing for me. Thanks.

A comment about changing the format to the artist themselves choosing in the end, I’m not sure about that one. People can be cliquey, and that won’t lend itself to a true result. Having the artists stay is an interesting idea, but judging themselves doesn’t seem that it would work. Pushing the artists to be better lends itself more to being judged by those who are more experienced, etc.
The only point that I’d like to make is that having the artists all stay means that we (the viewer) won’t see as much as the whole process because of cutting the show to fit the format.
But I’d love to see a season finale that is an extended show.

I love watching each episode. I just wish it didn’t take so long to air the next episode. I feel and see you passion for creating this program. It is a competition so people will be eliminated. Totally understand that. I personally appreciate the judging. I want to know what you SEE and WHAT you are critiquing in each piece. If you liked it…why. If it fell short…why. For me that’s what it’s all about. I assume as an artist myself there will be strong emotions expressed on many levels. I assume there will be challenges presented not everyone can handle or successfully respond to. But that is all part of growth. I hope you keep the format you have. I’m not sure painting in the blistering heat/sun is necessary, without proper shade. But the rest was great. You seem to be very kind and compassionate people. I joined your Mastery program because of that. Hopefully soon I’ll actually start it. Keep up the great work you all do. I appreciate you all.

Very nice to hear your perspectives on what it was like for you. I think you've made a great show.
I want to add though, without naming the elephant in the room...
I observed some things happening and tried to piece two and two together and I now conclude that sometimes people might have too much trauma going on to enter a contest like this in a healthy mindset. Which leads to hurt and a perspective through the lens of that trauma, and then given words to express those feelings aimed at you guys as if you did something terribly wrong.
But that is the trauma talking. I guess it takes one to know one, so I can relate and feel deeply for that person, especially for this now being on the internet. But also feel for you guys. I can totally see your perspectives too.
The thing is, if you have not have had sufficient treatment for such an inner wound, you can not choose to 'just be mentally strong'.
You need to heal and then you can become mentally stronger. Just as with physical wounds, maybe a broken leg. You can not say to that person: you need to just be physically strong. That person needs to heal first. And then afterwards can do the work to become stronger.
I am sorry for everybody this happened and I hope everybody can see it for what it was after a while. Each and everybody on the show is an amazing person! ❤

I wonder if some of the reason for the negative comments is that social media today has people so obsessed with "likes" and constant approval. Any critique is seen as a personal attack. It's easy to constantly praise people, but is that really showing them love and kindness? If you really want the best for someone you don't just constantly flatter them. I think I tend to be a bit straight to the point in life and I too notice how people take it badly because they are used to constant fake flattery for social brownie points. The bible says "faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful". Being "nice" isn't always true and honest and doesn't always have the persons best interests at heart. Saying that, not all the critical comments were negative and some interesting ideas were discussed.
I like how you are so open about things and share these discussions and ideas.

The show is great. I believe the only thing missing is a clearer explanation of why the artist is being eliminated at the time of the elimination. I felt that was lacking, something akin to the show 'Chopped,' where they emphasize both the positive qualities and the shortcomings that lead to elimination. For instance, a painting may be aesthetically pleasing but not aligned with the given theme. Providing a more detailed explanation would help the audience better understand that even though a piece looked good, it did not fit within the context. Or whatever other explanation would be.

First and foremost, your show must be interesting to the audience. I like the competition aspect of it, but it needs variety. So many of your artists paint similarly. Instead, I’d ask for a variety of genres and styles. Competition 1, do a plein air landscape; Competition 2, do a portrait; Competition 3, do a still life; Competition 4, paint in the impressionist style, or a non-representational abstract, etc. This would test the range of the artists, and would inform the watching audience on the different types of visual art. Thank you for thinking about it.

I would suggest something...if allowed. All artists who are eliminated should be given some offer to submit their work in art gallery if possible . maybe you could show in one episode that too.

I hope I am included in the positive or constructive camp, because I have taken a lot of things into consideration before commenting.
I have make comments talking about things I would like to see more of. For instance, I would like to see more of the art at the end of the competition. I am talking full on frontal views for a bit longer than what has been shown.
I would love to hear more about why, especially at the later part of the series, why that particular artist was eliminated, and why the others remain safe.
I know this is a challenging venture and we as viewers are seeing just a snippet of what happens there.
I would love to see more of the nitty gritty. It would paint a truer picture of what was actually happening.
The way it is filmed it looks like you are at a luxury resort and surrounded by beauty 24/7. It is hard to comprehend the challenges everyone was facing. I certainly did not see anything wrong or flawed about the elimination process, especially since the redemption became a possibility. I agree with Dimitra, that it would be less interesting with the suggested approach, and believe that these challenges are bringing out something in the artists that might otherwise be missed in more gentle format . (which is not to say that you had a harsh approach at all)
What Ellie said about being happy rather than envious of an artist who wins or sells when you don't is so true and from experience I can say that my envy and deep feeling of lack has been my downfall. It is changing for me slowly as I deal with my internal patterns and old ideas.
I commend all the artists who have put themselves out there in this way. I can truly say, that I appreciated every artists honesty and open hearted stories. I know that they all experienced transformation and growth.
It actually does come across how everyone is caring and loving.
This show is definitely helping to push myself, and I am asking myself difficult questions about my work and how I approach my paintings.
I think that what some people don't understand, is that a critique is not criticism. Honest feedback is paramount. I said this in another comment, that I thought the critiques were extremely generous. Never did I think they were unfair or demeaning.
When I was in undergraduate school, critiques were not a big part of the curriculum, and it left me HUGELY handicapped when I got to graduate school. I did not know how to talk about my work on any level. Critiques are vital in that process.
I don't know how you can solve the gap of how you critique and what you show, but because it is such a valuable and vital part of the aim, it would be so appreciated, to at least include a little more of that.
