If she had she would have heard the gospel of John many times over. Nuns practice lectio divina, which is prayerful reading and meditation in scripture for hours each week. She would have had access to the gospel of John at any time of the day in her monastery. Happy to be shown otherwise with evidence. But that sounds like an outright lie to me.

It is true what John Piper said : People were burned alive for reading the Bible. The teacher at my Catholic school told me Thomas More watched as the Protestants were burned, and said their souls would go to hell. Yet my teacher, who must have been sixty, remained a devout Catholic. One of the puzzles I reflect upon.
The catholic church teaches a highly defensive doctrine. So many people grow with that, and simply cant let go their tradition deeply rooted in their minds.
I don't agree with calvinism either... Anyway i must admit calvinist churches are quite orthodox when it comes to moral bible principles. So it has its pros and its cons...
