Yeah those glasses cost too much to give a pair to every soldier. It's why they're reserved for the best of the best ; Special Operation Forces, CIA Field Agents, Navy Seal teams, Green Berets, etc.
So the way the monitor thing works is they just remove the light polarizing layer from the screen, and since the glasses have a polarizing layer you can't see the screen without the glasses. You can do this with any display by removing that layer and putting it into some glasses.
action lab has a video on how to do it. but it basically ruins your monitor for a party trick, because it permanently becomes white without wearing the glasses.

Let’s talk about how he demonstrated the sunglasses being “crushed” by a sledgehammer by proceeding to increase the surface area in which force is being applied to them with that cinderblock and piece of wood. That’s gotta decrease the force substantially right?
The wood and cinder block are misdirections. There is a very brief cut as he pulls the wood off of it. Very subtle and uses the movement of the wood and concrete pieces to hide the cut.
This is very nostalgic. Reminds me of the bad infomercials that used to air from like 2 to 5am and you'd sit there and watch them.. cause there was nothing better. Cable t.v sucked, holy shit.

8:50 not even the wood was affected by "being hit with a sledgehammer" because neither it or the sunglasses were "hit" with ANYTHING! If you laid down, had an anvil placed on your chest & someone else hit the anvil with a sledgehammer, you will feel nothing. Literally nothing. All the force gets absorbed by anvil. In this case, all the force goes into smashing the cinder block.
@@SydneyStewart-d3f you'd think wrong. anvils can weigh between 100 & 500 pounds, usually 150. _dropped_ on you would obviously crush you. but having 100 pounds on you isn't going to hurt you. however, i probably should've said stomach rather than chest as you could brace with your abs. regardless, there's literally videos of it.

Wow. Polarized and color contrast enhancing! These are actually great features in sunglasses, but the way they advertise them as if we haven't had these technologies for decades. Just so you know, polarized glasses CAN see more fish in water, that is extremely glared. As long as it is blocking those flashes of light, it actually does let you see more.
Well unfortunately to say, they actually did good with the editing, because the tac glass flip actually cover more than just the eye glasses, causing there to be two frames, one for the eye glasses and one for the tac glasses

When I was getting new glasses, there was an option for "auto-shades", so I assume they become sunshades if there's too much light. Also, yes, these tactiglass shades polarize the light, so you will be able to see into ponds and see fish... It'll also let you see what's on a monitor with it's polarizing filter ripped off.
I'm glad someone mentioned the monitor thing. I saw the demo and was like... this would work for ~any~ polarized sunglasses if you tear off the monitor's polarizing layer.
A health food ad started playing exactly at 5:59, and for a second I genuinely thought Tactglasses had an advertisement that tried to convince people they would lose weight while wearing them.

10:01 That's the patented TacSmile technology of the TacGlasses -- these babies have so many features we don't have time to include them all in the infomercial!
7:00 its called a Refraction filter or something. It actually does work and even some modern phone cameras have it. Most of those shiny sunglasses have that filter
If you want to recreate that computer screen part of the ad, just watch any video about polarization in LCD screens. Basically, most screens have a polarization filter that allows the image to come through. You can remove that layer and use the polarization layer that's built into most sunglasses in order to be the only one who can see your screen.
the invisible screen thing means that you can remove the polarizing lens from almost any screen and only people who have glasses like these (or any other glasses with polarizing lenses) can see the screen
I think what happened with the eagle appearing is because they were showing people a screen lacking a polarizer. If you have polarized glasses you can see unpolarized lcd screens
Some dude with a backwards baseball cap sitting in his truck and wearing one of these is probably taking a selfie to put on Facebook at this very moment

And to be fair, that was a somewhat realistic depiction of being able to see through water with polarized shades, other than it obviously being an edit of a totally different shot
Haha yeah the whole commercial is showing off that they’re polarized. That flag trick on the screen is yet another trick you can set up with polarized glasses

Yeah those glasses cost too much to give a pair to every soldier. It's why they're reserved for the best of the best ; Special Operation Forces, CIA Field Agents, Navy Seal teams, Green Berets, etc.
@@Gatorade69 navy seals get a pair of "elite tactical glasses" upon return of their first mission if i'm remembering correctly.
So the way the monitor thing works is they just remove the light polarizing layer from the screen, and since the glasses have a polarizing layer you can't see the screen without the glasses. You can do this with any display by removing that layer and putting it into some glasses.
Or, you know, video editing and acting, lol
@@FreakyD83condescending lol aside, the polarization filter thing is super easy to do and is definitely how they did that

When I was really young I always thought Nick Bolton himself was the guy who made these. So I always imagined him in some grand workshop, forging the TacGlasses with the might of Zeus.
I love how so many of these POV shots are literally just the same ones as in the original tek glasses ads, but now with a png of normal glasses put on top
I love the obvious cut when they "ran over" the glasses.

I think Charlie and the crew need to buy some of these and put them through the ULTIMATE moist test! Only way I'd trust buying a pair!

4:28 From my extremely limited knowledge it seems to be that the glasses have a polarizer and they just remove the polarization layer from the screen. Thus wearing the glasses completes the screens effect and let you see the image

Charlie, you magnificent bastard. Now I actually want tac glasses. I have run over and sat on, and broke my more inferior glasses about 20 times in 30 years. When I was getting new glasses, there was an option for "auto-shades", so I assume they become sunshades if there's too much light.

The best part is I've actually seen this ad at 1am on tv and it was the most entertaining thing to watch
So glad they made sunglasses that allow me to finally see the contents of LCD screens with the polarizing film removed, god's country
the invisible screen thing means that you can remove the polarizing lens from almost any screen and only people who have glasses like these (or any other glasses with polarizing lenses) can see the screen
Lol i remember watching these ads way back in high school. Mentioning the tac glasses just unlocked a core memory.
