Just discovered Shall Lake access #17 amazing.Heading up for my 3rd trip this year tomorrow on Crotch lake. 26 km logging road is no problem for small cars.

I've definately bailed on trips before. Too bad because a lot of prep goes into these trips, even the short ones. Happy you and Venus are safe!

That side of the lake is crown land and not owned by the park. locals camp there all the time. just locals camping is all that was.

its smart to know your limits but you really should go into the back country with a man.. sounds like you don't have enough confidence in yourself to be safe on your own away from civilization... I have been solo camping for 35 years and a big part of it is the mental game. having confidence in your own physical ability especially when it gets hard. wind,, rain cold.. it takes a mental tough person to push through that in the name of fun... You were right though.. always listen to your gut,,, its your subconscious telling you you bit off more than you can chew,, I applaud you for that decision.

I think it was a situation where you had to be there to feel it. It was more the civilization that was making me uneasy above anything else. People camping at the put in, a truck up on blocks with the front wheels off. I’ve been to some really beautiful spots, and that’s just not one of them. Oh sure, I could have paddled to a site or found a spot, but did I really want to? No. I’m very confident in my abilities, and I’m not new to sleeping alone under the stars, or bad weather. The ‘vibe’ was not there for me.
