Tip: hot glue the tops of staples. Why? 1. Covers the staples to help keep them from scratching the surface they are on, 2. The glue also helps keep the board from sliding on a smooth surface.
I really need a small sturdy ironing board! I have a suggestion/question - could we not lay the fabric right side down, batting on top, board (with the one piece of fabric already) on top then fold the fabric over the batting & fold up over the board edge to eliminate the extra step & staples? Or will that not work for whatever reason? I ask first in case you've already tried it. Thanks & Blessings!
Yes, you can definitely do it that way as well to get rid of a few steps and also save on staples. I personally found it easier to do it one step at a time, that way my batting doesn't get bunched up and/or my fabric doesn't get bunched up either. (Or a crease happens.) I wanted to keep everything layer taut. But as long as I think you are aware of that happening and just take caution, you should be ok. ☺️

I made a sleeve for my plywood that I covered in a towel. I used upholstry fabric and can wash it regularly. I don't like to throw away fabric.

Great tutorial! I made one a long time ago and covered it with canvas. I’m having the same trouble with staining. I guess it’s time to make a new one!
