    This is what I love to watch: the how to demonstrations. Keep them coming and keep up the excellent explanations, too. I'd think there are many like me out there who are desperate for a definitive step by step guide that one can apply in the same order of operations for their captures. Obviously there are differences in order of operations from say a portrait compared to architecture operations. These kind of videos are the ones that captivate and intrigue me. Thanks 🙏

    Hi Anthony, Thank you for another video packed with ideas for using LN in a more refined way that any other advocate of the program I've seen. What I especially enjoy about your videos, apart from the careful setup, clever clip-weaving and genial tone (that alone puts you way ahead of the TH-cam pack), is your focus on contrast management in Neo. Without labouring the technical side of things, in every video I've watched you show how to use & combine the surprising variety of tools in NEO for controlling and re-shaping luminance, colour and texture contrast to emphasise/de-emphasise and direct attention. You have revealed more ways of doing this skilfully and discretely than I might have guessed were available in the editor (the use of single-image HDR layering to extract highlight contrast is a brilliant idea!). So instead of cursing it's shortcomings (which gets dull) I've found myself enjoying NEO's capabilities more. The mastery of local and global contrast seems to me to be the essence of photo-processing (of course, that was Ansel Adams' big idea in The Print) so I'm looking forward to learning more from your skills perhaps on subjects like the different ways to achieve and use 'sharpness' in NEO for screen and print (do you do 'print'?) and how to use colour contrast to make images attract and direct attention without 'shouting'. Best wishes, Peter

    I know this is a year ago but I have just recently discovered your channel and am very impressed with your editing with Luminar Neo and just started using this program. Thanks for the knowledge you are passing on to us. This video has pushed a lot of information and I will need to watch it many more times to grasp everything you are teaching. I want to thank you for this and all the information you are passing on.
    I do have a question. Why did you swap the photo with her looking to the left when the photo was taken with her facing to the right?
    Just wondering. thanks again.....

      Thanks Julio for the kind words. 🙏 Not sure what you mean about swapping the photo though? I think this was as it was captured?

      Thanks for getting back to me. If you notice in the photo, her wedding rings, looking at the image is on the right hand rather than the left. Thats what made wonder why the image was swapped. Just wondering if that was a factor in the editing?

    Anthony have found your tutorials great as a newcomer to Luminar Neo. If possible could you please let me know if it is possible to combine catalogues. I travel with my laptop and do editing whist travelling. Upon returning home would like to combine my laptop catalogue with my main computer. This I achieved in Lightroom and keep all edits made. Is this possible in Luminar Neo. Thanks.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I do the same with my LR catalogues, but as yet haven't tried it with Luminar. It MAY be possible but as yet I'm not sure how.

    Starting to put some effort to improve my basic photography skills. Got a basic qn: to edit the images in Luminar Neo, what is the recommended format /size to shoot portraits- Raw or large Jpegs. Got T7i with some basic primes.

      Raw will always give you more latitude when it comes to editing.

    Couple of Q's. Do you create a a"final" wedding album yourself or does the client select images to be included? Would you edit the portrait image that the Bride selects as a "wall" portrait before or after the same image is included in the album. Maybe I should have asked if you create an album at all. My career was over after 33 years at the turn of the century so not sure what studios are offering to clients today. I have learned that some folks just do an incredible number of images at a wedding today compared to the film days. If you remove moles on the portrait such as done on the arm of this subject do other things to the subject for a final wall portrait and then create the image for the album frm the same file, would this not also mean doing some of the same work on every image in the album that the bride would be in? Guess this is more than a couple of Q's. How many images does the average sized album contain and from how many images done during the day. I assume that how folks are doing wedding coverage today that full coverage is standard compared to many weddings I did over the years did not include the dinner/dancing/going away unless ordered as an additional option with generally coming with a package of larger amount of images being in the final album. Just curious about the whole field today 23 years later from my last. Others -- feel free to comment.
    As always Anthony another great video with lots of good info. I was a bit surprised that you did not use the copy/paste/invert of some of the masking techniques particularly in the highlight/shadow discussion near the end of the video.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Phlotographer. I've stopped doing weddings a couple years back now but here's the answers from when the business was in operation... I created the album and then swapped out images IF the client preferred a different shot in the series. A wall art edit would be a separate thing to the album as the album edits would need the same or similar treatment for continuity. My album images would be quite true to the original shot. Individual retouching, such as cosmetic retouching was an "extra service" because as you say, you'd need to do it for every shot featuring. Very time-consuming.
      I'd do a full-day coverage because to me the story of the day was important to capture. This led to large albums between 20-60pages. On average pages would have 2.5 images as a general rule. Some double-page spreads, some pages more story based with smaller images.
      I've considered doing a few videos on wedding photography and the business behind it but it's taken me a long time to get a healthy perspective on it all. I ended up very burnt out from what I gave to my career to the detriment of a lot of other areas. But perhaps it's time to go back and revisit what I learned and share with others....
      Yes you're right I should have made better use of copy pasting masks.

    Another fantastic tutorial. Thank you! It was quite extensive, so I will need to spend some time rewatching the many techniques you demonstrated.
    QUESTION: Would you enlarge one eye like that, in a real wedding photo? Many people have different sized eyes, and I just think that "correcting" that might make the person look strange. (Even if the difference in this case might have been exaggerated as her head is turned.) Any comments from the bride or groom in this case? ;)
    To answer your question: I take and edit portraits of family and friends.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. So, in this case one eye was captured smaller than the other but her eyes are in fact perfectly the same size, I think it was possibly more her expression than the angle of the shot but in any case, yes, I would use this technique if the final result appeared closer to reality in terms of the geometry of her face.
