This is probably the best conducted interview and Q&A I've seen on the internet and definitely on this topic. Very, helpful. And you can tell when someone is holding back or dancing around the bush and when someone is open and honest. This man is on point. Kudos to everyone involved. Extremely well done. 2+ h of very well invested time.

This business-related content is fascinating to me. He's right about a knowledge gap that most creatives have. Please keep the vids coming Film Courage! You're one of the best uses of the TH-cam platform: truly free education and inspiration.

Let me break it down to you... film schools don't teach students what they really should know about distribution. Distribution companies that can really change your life financially won't give you any attention because they don't want to waste their time with thousands of filmmakers showing them films that won't be profitable to them and who don't know what they're doing in that space so they'll only deal with a sales agent to filter that a little. Sales agents will either work with every film to get their buck from their "effort"fees or they'll be extremely selective of what films they represent based on the films with the most financial potential for them and the distributors, even if that means you'll see little to no money yourself because, at the end of the day, they can't predict the outcome. The reality is quite a bit harsher than what's he depicting. Remember, he's a salesman who needs to be in good terms with both sides of the coin in order to sell.

We had the pleasure of working with Glen on our feature film. In a business that seems to work against you most of the time, Glen cuts through all the clutter to get you the best deal you can. Brutally honest guy who will do more for you and your film than most people working on the film will. Highly recommended!

A big reason why the writers and actor strike is going on is because of how these middle men (sales agents) and distributors rip off filmmakers everywhere. They're just middle men that make filmmakers and their teams lose a ton more money than they should. The only reason why they're necessary is because filmmakers are too lazy to learn the things they need to have an intelligent negotiation with distributors. So instead of filmmakers getting ripped off by 1 person, they get ripped off by 2.

Don't sign any contract without involving a lawyer who specializes in the field. There are far too many tales of woe for anyone to ignore that advice -- _especially_ novices.

    How today's movies are sold
So we have a franchise that made us a lot of money and became iconic, let's change everything about it and act surprised when the fans hate it

You're not wrong about the state of legacy IPs held by major studios. But those movies *aren't* sold by a filmmaker to a distributor, they're developed in-house by the studio and self-distributed. So while I get your joke and wholeheartedly agree, for the sake of clarity, this video is describing a different process.

@@Yo_DynamoJoe I know it's serious and I'm here to learn what sells if I decide to try and sell my work as a screenplay rather than a novel, weighing my options
Regardless, I made a joke, laugh or do not

The way he talks actors as a commodity was gross honestly. Some good info, but I’ve heard other places, but it soured for me.

It’s true though. In the industry they’re treated as products. For the amount some of them get paid I’m sure they don’t care much 😂
