Western "privledge" is decades of of westerners being smart AND working hard. There is NO "western priveledge", dufus... :/ You lost stock points.
Was actually referring to some Westerners who traipse thru (or worse, move here) with a sense of entitlement and an air of superiority. But I could've expressed this better (or not at all;) STL/Doofus lol
Side Trip Life stands above other channels because it is very good at giving practical advice. Thanks for giving us the inside deal.
Agreed...
I usually hate brown-nose comments but this one is well-deserved.
Definitely the information most of us are looking for. A+
Absolutely Love When TH-camrs Do These Kinds Of Videos And Overpay On Hotels, Like 90%% Absolutely Do. This guy is absolutely in the rare 10%% Cheap hotel, room looks great and with pool. Washer / dryer?? Excellent from start to finish
Kudos for being respectful of the girls and not filming. Hate those channels that go with the concealed cameras. Also good info, indeed BKK is getting more expensive but still half the price that a beer in most US cities.
40+ minutes should be the new standard for STL. Excellent vid.
"..just going for a walk..." - one letter. 😊
Well I'm very thankful you stomached it all (again!) for us. Definitely a thumbs up from me, RIP Kurt 🙂
If I remember rightly, the Ambassador club was simply known as Ambassador, great pick up place for freelancers
Climax was the name of the club
STL back in bkk!! Best city and country in the world brother!!❤
BKK a kaleidoscope of sights lights and sounds indeed ✌
I swear I could smell it as well.
Great video, I like the realism of your comments. Like the guy is chocking on a cat 😂. Keep up the good work.
STL thank you so much for being long time customer for Tong Manhattan barber. They can keep their business because lovely old friends like you 🎉
Khun Loong and Auntie Tong ARE like family, lovely folks :)
Great video. Nice to see they updated the Miami Hotel. That was the second hotel I stayed in on my first trip to Thailand in 1982. The hotel was pretty worn out even back then, I assume as a result of the countless flow of guys on RR back in the Vietnam war era, but I loved the pool! Oh, and thanks for the tip on the ice cream with Roti. I can’t believe that after all these years I’ve never tried that!
Note to self - always set by exit at bars
Love your channel DUDE! Keep on doing what you’re doing!
love this day adventure. pls do it more
This is some of the best content I’ve come across. I can’t wait to move to Thailand from Texas. His videos are very helpful along with entertaining. Please keep making content just how you’ve been doing.
I'm moving there too, from N.M. Don't know where yet.
All the tourist areas are expensive I eat in the local markets still great food and cheap
Very good NO ANTS tip , Awesome.
Man, I loved this video... BKK is so exciting! 👍👍🦘🦘
Yes it is except air pollution.
Another great (and not too long) one, thanks STL.
Soi 11 was my first taste of Thailand in 2008. Another great video thanks. Yes, I went to the nightclub under the Ambassador! lol
Climax was a zoo and just an amazing place to party. Shame it closed, we hope and pray for similar again.
Always watch till the end!
Great vlog as usual !! 😊
Love your longer videos!!! Please keep them coming!
Terrific mate I enjoyed that 👍
Can’t wait for next vid, your killing it
love your vids and Content !!!
Perfect video again from STL. Love the length.
Thanks for the video, my partner and I were there in November and it bought back good memories, looking forward to the next vid, oh and we watched it until the end :)
Thanks for the down to earth content. The real world view. Good stuff.
Another excellent video. Thank you
Good couple videos Side Trip, love the longer vids 👍🏻
Love the longer videos mate
Love your vlogs always watch to the end
Very good
Prices are no longer cheap in central BKK
Well done showing the lower down side streets etc
Take care
amazing how prices drop 50%+ just a few metres down a side street...
Great town. I had just had a banana roti while watching this and when I saw the ice cream I was like dow to late for me but good idea next time 😂👍😎
haha nice! with coconut ice cream is the bomb!
I wasn’t hungry until you started showing that chicken leg curry and noodles dish🍜….cant wait for this kind of lifestyle #Btctothe🌕🎶😊
it was amazeballs fall off the bone delish and fantastic sauce, all for 80 baht/$2.25 giddyup
Great video. You are the real deal dude.
Thanks but the real Dude lives on Koh Phangan (saw The Dude's house;)
Enjoyed your Quasimodo "the bells, the bells" moment 😂
Climaxxx was the nightclub. God I loved it there. A real Star Wars bar if ever there was one in Bkk.
rumour is , it's coming back & in the same location too. Meanwhile, Hillary 2 on Soi 4 has a similar kind of vibe
club next to the Ambassador hotel was probably called "superclub the bed" if I recall correctly, around 20 years ago lol
Bed Supper Club was the name. So cool and artsy at the time!
always make the end, great vid
Love these long videos.
So YOU'RE the one, glad you like them! (surely an acquired taste lol;)
Love your videos! Of course i made ot til the end!
Much appreciated! STL
Nice walk around Sukhumvit area….you are braver than me filming at soi Cowboy😬…..fun video STL!
Loved this one brother.
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing! The area from Nana to Phrong Pong is my favorite area in Bangkok. Great info as always, and I watched to the end as always.
Awesome! Thank you!
two comments - 1. at 30.00 minuets in video is ( crazy house sign ) this go go bar is not on SOI Cowboy but just around the corner from top of Cowboy , if you miss going in there you miss the best go go bar in Bangkok. have been in there many times ! cost of drinks, bar fines , go go girls ST AND LT , all in line with other go go bars.. 2. COUNTRY ROAD BAR has more than one band on every evening , second band comes on later in evening, this video you see rock band, BUT the bar also have country western band and also have older era who play 60 to current music, best bands on Friday and Saturday. also can order food and eat while listening to bands, also can sit on porch at rail and see what is going on on street,
Bangkok rent and food prices are definitely getting a bit pricey in areas like Asoke, Phom Phrong, Ekkamai, and extending further and further out. Now people are looking near Bang Chak BTS or further to get a decent value and still be a reasonably close BTS ride to the center.
On Nut, Udom Suk, etc. are getting very popular now.
Every Minute again STL... :-))
The club was called Climax and it was awesome! great pro tip re the dirty food containers going in the fridge never heard of that before!
Right.... climax! Yep, just chill potential ant invasions
Amazing club, was gutted it was closed on my last visit
Great video.
Greetings STL from my steamy perch down on Koh Phangan. That was so enjoyable you are getting so good at your narration witty and informative cant wait till the next one. We are looking to try out the pubs in Jakarta in July they look buzzing and try follow your footsteps. We were in BKK for a concert and we brought our teenage lad to Cowboy to see the delights on offer his comment at the was " I wish I was old and can come here without my parents" my answer "you will be old in two and a half years" lol. We had a meal in a restaurant you mentioned in Asoke 2 steaks 1 ribs a glass of wine and two cokes 11k wow ....
That was a fun video. Thanks for the insight. Some of those prices are nuts...
We must have a banana roti when we're there in July. Great tip there. Cheers
Aah spice girls 😂. Oh well, at least it was really interesting seeing 8 and 11 for the good food places and the current prices for some of the pricier hotels, it looked like some reasonable mid range ones. Although I'm not too sure about staying on 11.😊 Always a good watch, even if it isn't my style. Must watch the Indonesia series as the music was ace. 😊
Really enjoyed your surjourn back to the capital STL, love your dispatches
Cheers Gary! STL
Tong Manhattan is my place to go since 2012, been there maybe 50 times. He used to have a shop on the actual Soi before the one on the side soi there. Best hot shave I have ever had.
Yep, used to be where Viva is now, right on the corner, top barber and very nice folks.
Watched til end ❤ Our old friend plays bass in big band in Cowboy sometimes, Chabah Band...very professional bunch.
Great video and informations
Now the minimum wage has dropped to 350 baht per day, but in fact some shops are starting to pay 400 baht per day. Because it was difficult to find workers
First place I stayed in BKK was in soi 8 in 1988. A Danish place called Mermaids Rest. A kinda mid century building. Names like Miami and Ambassador ring a bell and my first night out overseas was in Soi Cowboy.... my eyes were opened !!! Thanks for the channel, I find it most entertaining 😊
another great vid, so much covered, god knows how long it takes you to edit these, thx
Thanks, appreciated. This one took approx 24 hours to edit over 5 days.
Very informative video..nice work..
I like that hotel too. Here we go....yes indeed!
Love these type of videos no bullshit and good price guide thanks mate. Keep it up
Loved it 🖐
Thanks for showing me the Miami. My old haunt. Was there in November 2019 when the reno's just started and was still more the old Miami where filmed a couple of Netflix shows that year. Also, what Soi was The Federal on? I stayed there a few times back in the day. :) Thanks for the stroll!
Great to see the ol' Miami all art deco-ed out and refurbed. I would literally place pink flamingos outside. Federal is just another condo now I think.... sigh.... (Hyde 11?)
Literally as I start to watch this I've only been back an hour from Los Angeles international airport and my 2-week visit to thailand. I spent 6 days in Bangkok, 3 at the solitaire Sukumvitt 11, and the last three at the Miami hotel. I enjoyed it it was a nice hotel for a great price and while I was there they had some kind of a Thai movie they filmed at the pool. I had a lady stay over that night so we watched it together for a while before she took me to the mall and took some of my money lol. I had a blast and unfortunately while I was there my 8-year-old German Shepherd dog died. So here I sit in my home and I'm only home for an hour and my dogs not here... I was doing a recon on Thailand to come with him to live there and I was thinking Hua Hin. I was thinking it was going to be hard on him too. Now I don't have that problem. My home is a 40 ft motor coach and as soon as I can sell it and my other stuff I'll be back in Thailand for awhile.
In my opinion the best bar in Sukumvitt was the game. A sports bar with three pool tables two of which has competition every night and they have Guinness on tap beautiful waitresses and bartenders and it's right on circumvent so you can sit out and look at the view or you can sit at the bar and watch the pool game.
But yeah I did not find Bangkok especially inexpensive although there were some pretty good places for inexpensive but excellent Thai food. I think it's like anywhere else you can go from really cheap places to really expensive places relative to the local economy. But we westerners really inflated for the average tie which could never afford any of those prices. Well except for the bar girls, maybe, but only during the high season? I don't know I've only was there 2 weeks and fell in love with Thailand but I'll have to be there a lot longer before I can say anything with any certainly.
Anyway it's because of your videos and a few others that got me into the idea of going to Thailand and either I will curse you forever or buy you a dinner and a drink the next time if we meet.
Glad you enjoyed but sorry for your loss. You sound seasoned but if I may make a suggestion? PLEASE go slow, do not burn any bridges and do not make any commitments within the first year (or heaven forbid buy a place). You're in the honeymoon phase which wears off (ok I still really love it here but it's not like my first euphoric feeling). Anyways, wish you best, keep us updated. STL
Great content and length perfect.
Love when an old school Bangkok guy says there used to be a good Thai food place down here.....🤣
A Chang. Always interesting video
tack!
I hope to be in bkk by the end of March or slightly earlier . Have you ever considered doing a meet up?
We found German bar, Hemingway and rooftop bar expensive. But loved the band (woman sounded like Black Eye Peas) in Penny Black on Doi Cowboy opposite Country Road.
Sounds like you guys caught it on a better night. To be fair any band can have an off night and as stated in the vid the acoustics in that place were terrible. A for effort tho lol.
Another great STL video. Thank you! Now back to a sandy quiet beach!
Are you still looking for a home base?
Yep. STL's quest for a new seaside home base will be resuming shortly, pls stay tuned....
Our currency is so weak now, going to Thailand is very expensive.
Not to pry but AUD? (or perhaps CAD peso like moi;) If it's Sterling 75-1 goes back to Jul 2004
@@SideTripLife NOK. We are slowly becoming a banana republic.
Exellent !!!❤
Never watched your channel before even though I'm subscribed
Camera quality amazing snd in my humble opinion editing seemless
Very impressive 👏
Thanks for watching and commenting, appreciated. Still grinding away with my 3 year old android phone, gets the job done. Editing can be time consuming as I still do it the old fashioned way DIY (vs hiring a freelancer as many do now). STL
Great video..... im complaining about the prices, but great alternatives
Always fantastic vids mate
Never apologies for giving s out of Towners Your local knowledge
👍👍👍👍
great taste in desserts my friend
Warm greetings from PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, where are spending a week following in your footsteps
Soi 8 my first time 1999 Asia Lodge ! Great Soi ...
Good to see you in Bkk. I'm actually staying at the Ambassador tonight. I would have bought you a wobbly pop, if I saw you...😂
Love me a wobbly pop but on the rd at the moment, so thanks and have one for me
You are so right abthe music bars in cowboy. I was there feb 13 and it was painful the bands were crap. There used to be great bands and atmosphere in both those bars. Sad to see them go so bad so quickly.
To be fair any band can have an off night, acoustics were crap, filming on a phone, yada yada and apparently there's better bands on busiest nights (mind you this was a Sat Night).
A very nice episode as allways, i am next friday on soi 11 for 2 days😊 and then further to samui, tao and phangan 😊. Sawadee krap.🙏
GREAT itinerary!
Loved your Indonesia series and as much as I’m looking forward to visiting Bangkok for the first time later this year, it won’t be for the live music!
Thanks. To be fair and as stated, acoustics are poor in those places and any band can have an off night. Enjoy Bangkok, there is some good music around.
and humor also 😉
Thanks! Being a Canuck we naturally put U in humoUr;) Cheers, STL
A double episode in one 👌 showcasing BKKs finest 🤩 and invaluable info all the way and Khao Soi 😋 👋👍🙏
Cheers Ant. Notice how all the best stuff is in the alleys off Suk (and that 80B Khao Soi was off the hook delicious:)
Made your a legend
That restaurant at 28:56 ....I ate there last year. It was packed when I was there. The food was okay. I'm glad you put the clip in of the good Queen cover band! Its exactly what I thought of when you were showing the crap. You've been there for 20 years? I wish I knew more of your story.
Worth mentioning that Margarita Storm at 3.30ish is open 24 hours and a great place to go to watch any sports matches on at any crazy times
I did not know that! (sorry Greg;)
made it to the end
STL, check out The Tielman Brothers "Rolling Rock" (Indonesian)
i will be in thailand in April!!
You needed to follow the sign that said Crazy House.
Not my cupa but nice to observe from a distance.
Nor mine as it turned out lol. Thanks for coming along anyhow, appreciated. STL
Yeah, I know, I was absolutely gutted when Via Vai disappeared about 3-4 years ago, great food and atmosphere. always packed so i was shocked they couldn't make it work. That was my goto Italian for years. There was another great one on Khao San road called the King and I, that was even better just incredible italian food, probably the best walnuts and cream truffle sauce ravioli I have ever had, that one evaporated and i soon discovered Via Vai. I don;t live in Bangkok anymore, so I only am down there 2-3 times a year for a week from upcountry, so I haven't had enough time to find something i like as much as the two aforementioned Italians. I do enjoy Wine Connection Suk Soi 11 though and they have a great lunch deal everyday you get a pasta dish a side dish such as salad and a glass of good wine for less than 400 baht, a great restaurant to go to if you like wine, supermarket prices on the wine and a wide selction by glas or by the bottle. very comfortable couches and a huge window you can look out of and watch all the people on Soi 11 which is quite festive and busy nearly every night.
well, I have been to a number of asian places, I will have to say that only in thailand where they can't sing a western song to save their lives..... on a different note, after these few years watching your thailand videos, I ended up renting a car in chiang mai and drove to bangkok at the end of dec, beginning of jan. stopped at pechatbun and suhkohtai and ayutthaya. stayed at 3 star places (as to the normal 4+ star hotels) and airbnbs. it was all thanks your videos that inspired me. thank you.
Fantastic! Next trip, perhaps take a train to Hua Hin and after a few days rent a car (800B on FB.;) then drive South along the coast all the way to Sichon, amazing drive and beaches. Btw, to be fair, every band can have an off night or set (& Westerners usually suck at singing Thai songs too;) Cheers! STL
@@SideTripLife I was planning to try meet up with my thai gf in hat yai then together take the her truck and take the ferry from koh samui to rayong and from there drive along the inner coast back to hat yai. but that new ferry doesn't seem to be operational any more. so need new plan for the next road trip.
Nice video! We recently stayed on Soi 11, went to Hilary 3, free entry but they wanted 180 for a small beer... crazy!
Great vid! But Nana BTS does have a lift and escalator on the Soi 8 side. It's tucked next to the massage parlor next to Rajah Tailors.
Lift by Raja's on 8 side? Never seen it, only on 11 side. New to me, guess I'll have to pay more attention next time. Escalator up on 8 side but can see how getting on/off would be impossible for that poor lady. Good on her for determination and to those guys for assisting.
You just walk past my home base.... The Grand Business Hotel I've always had good luck with them, and I'll be probably be staying there in the fall for a couple of days😎🥃...... least we forget fast Freddie✊🥃🥃
