I've lived in Thailand for near on 15 years and I've only ever taken the train from Taling Chan to Hua Hin once. All I could get was a third class ticket (my fault as I left it too late to book). Never again, it was the worst trip of my life. Wooden seats on a bone rattler. Shared the rail car with all sorts of chickens, dogs etc. I was so sore when I arrived in Hua Hin. In those days you could still get a beer to deaden the pain. I decided that my trip back to Bangkok was going to be by bus. Might be time to reavaluate since the dual ine is now open. If that person you recommended third class to had anywhere the trip I had I would have chased you to the end of the earth.
Bus to Survarnabhumi airport has the equivalent of business class seats and also a bathroom. There are about 10 a day. It took 3 hours when I did it. From there you can take the airport train to Phaya Thai BTS station, which is another 30 minutes. It cost 375 + 35 = 410 baht.
First reaction - "Great, a new STL vid, brilliant" Second reaction: "An hour?? Ahhhh, maybe we'll split this into two viewings". One hour later in a single sitting... "Wow, that was a great watch" :D - we loved and watched every minute! Thanks so much, STL for all the hard work and time on this very informative and detailed vid. Looking forward to doing this trip ourselves.
Always look forward to the next STL vid, and this latest one does not disappoint. Enjoyed the long form format, and more immersive experience. Considering several spots south of Hua Hin-Sam Roy Yot and Prachuap Khiri Khan-as possible retirement spots, and planning an extended recon trip soon. Really insprired by your vids. Keep liv'n your STL!

I watched the WHOLE vlog with a 10 min break to make an expresso. The highlight of the vlog WAS NOT mosquito bite leg 😂😂😂 but it was certainly memorable and you did show a non-steroid cream. I must say this vlog was a hard transition from the Indonesia series. I was going to complain…BUT…I did stay until the very, very end and saw the tribute to that wonderful trip. Thoroughly enjoyed the transportation comparison. I checked flight schedules and did not find flight options. THERE IS NO place like Thailand. I miss it so much. Caring for my aged mother and 2nd cousin in the states now but once my responsibilities concluded…I’LL BE BACK…as long as I out-live them. 🙏
I think the bus is faster (as of now) but I would still much prefer the train ride, so much more relaxing…..great video to help travelers decide between the two😃🇹🇭
Love your videos,a window to Asia and you always so relaxed ! Flying to Bangkok soon and then to Prachuap Khiri Khan by train to friends I'm 68 now and a bit nervous Wish you all the best from Germany😊🙏
Oh STL….I LOVE THIS!!! I feel like I’m there. Navigating public transit can be difficult for those not familiar so it’s great for you to share this. Of course I love the train and interaction with locals. You always do a fine job of showing the best of everything. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire 1 hour, 4 minutes and 1 second 🙂
Remember me writing to you that my daughter Nona got to know Bangkok and Koh Samui through your videos? She has been there since almost two weeks now and earlier today her boyfriend Jeroen asked her to marry him, in Benjakitti park in Bangkok. It only took him 19 years to find the courage -lol
As usual, a great video. Biggest problem with the train (my preferred option) is the schedule. The trains get in to Hau Hin too late for those wanting to check in at a reasonable time (say mid to late afternoon. Same for Bangkok/Hau Hin with only 1 leaving after 5 am and that one arrives at 7pm.
We loved the longer video !! I can’t wait to ride the bus and the train from Bangkok to Hua Hin. The views are amazing on the train though . Thanks for taking us on your journey

Love the video, Don't apologise for the length of it, I was a bit disappointed when it ended! I will be travelling to Hua Hin in March and have been pondering how I will get from Bangkok to Hua Hin. Thanks for the information. The train wins hands down!
Yes exactly each to their own , the concept that a video should be a certain length is somewhat limited in its outlook , some of us rely on lengthy videos to go to sleep or in preference to watching a 2 hour movie on mainstream channels etc, plus isn't it just as easy to stop it half way and come back another time and watch the rest ? I’m glad I got to see the old Hua Hin station in action late last year when we did a weekend down at Sam Roi Yot. It was definitely an experience taking nearly 7 hours from Hua Hin to Bangkok by train 😂 and then to come in to Hua Lamphong station as well which I didn’t think I would get to do was another highlight.

To your BUMGUN comment at 31:30 you are so correct. After my first time in Thailand in 2017 It was the very first thing I installed when I returned to Canada in both my bathrooms. I think we will take that train, thanks for this. YES, I endured to the END. Travel safely and Be well.
I was in Hua Hin some years ago and while nice it felt too stretched out, everything felt kinda far away and the beach was a bit featureless when it more or less was just in a long straight line. The central parts around the large temples and the old city were really nice though.
Thanks, will be there in April/May and have Hua Hin / PKK in my list of side trips -- mainly BKK but this is very helpful and am looking forward to exploring...
Great video you should not doubt yourself your video's are very enjoyable to watch the longer the better it might take a couple of days to fit them in but well worth it. It would be cool if they put an old dinning cart on the rails at the old station and used that as the cafe, I thing that would attract people. It is sad to see it closed, and very few people like change especially as you get older as most the changes you witness in your life are not for the better.
About 10 years ago someone made a cafe inside one of the static carriages on display. That's gone now but yes, if done right like an old Orient Express diner etc would be pretty cool. It's likely just about every older person since caveman days said it was 'better before' "Look at all those carts with their squeaking wheels, plus smoke from everyone's fire, when I was cave-kid it was so much nicer" (yada yada;) but I get what you mean. Cheers, STL
Great video, the end of the trip with all the palm trees remind me of the landscape I love in Cambodia. Thanks for sharing 🙏 I'm actually going to Hua Hin next month ;)
Great video. I haven't been to Hua Hin in over a decade. Your video has me thinking I will head down for a few days when I am there this month. I was surprised by one thing, though. As a fellow Canadian I grew up riding the subway and "walk left, stand right" was ingrained in every TTC user. Definitely not only a Thai thing. I find most places in North America follow that rule.
Yep. Many Asian countries upon introducing the subway, had elaborate PR campaigns to instill that into the riders' minds as the progressive/superior thing to do "because this is what riders do in the West." Many don't realize the West has been perpetually promoted as superior in Asia for decades by govt, corporate or local intelligentsia :)
Hi, really enjoying your content. I noticed when you were entering the MRT on Asoke you walked through a metal detector. What happens if you have medic implants, it's not safe you use them. Is there an option?
@@biominerals wouldn't matter as my cam/phone has a builtin gimbal (only one like it;) plus Zeiss lens & F 1.5 which practically sees in the dark and all for half the price of an iPhone (which it beats the pants off imho). I do like my Macbook Air M1 for editing on the road tho, great machine and faster than M2 even.
Brilliant, great watch, so much so going to watch it again. Its put my mind at rest for booking a ticket in advance, after watching this I would happy to travel any class.
Amazing job! Great info! Great talking! Superfriendly! I viewed it all in one time! Almost had tears! Keep on the good work! Regards from Belgium!!!!andy
Great video. I'm a big train fan and I always loved that from the train you see into the backyards and not the polished fronts of houses. The advantage of the new station is really that it is even level to enter into the train. That why it looks so long. The old trains have a speed limit of 120 km/h. For the shorter time they need the newer trains with speed limits of 160 km/h and higher.
39:58 .... exactly "the view I wanna see, you don't get these views on a bus or highway" ... plus the highways are quite dangerous. So many drivers drink or take amphetamine and love racing then. I prefer train by far as well. Thank you for your very nice videos !!!
Ive been asking for longer videos and we finally got it. Great video always enjoy your content. I hope you continue with longer videos im always left wanting more lol.
Thanks for the video! Welcome home. Yes, we watched your vid to the very end. It was terrific. We're having to take the bus tomorrow - Surat Thani to Khao Lak, as the railway hasn't been built yet! Geriatric surfing over the weekend - gives the young people a laugh.
What an excellent video and full of REALLY useful information for a change! Have now subscribed and looking at Hua Hin as retirement and long term stays.. now added to our itinerary when we come over next month! ❤

It's likely just about every older person since caveman days said it was 'better before' "Look at all those carts with their squeaking wheels, plus smoke from everyone's fire, when I was cave-kid it was so much nicer" (yada yada;) but I get what you mean. Cheers, STL
Welcome home lol. Really great info here as usual, thanks xxx
Yep. Many Asian countries upon introducing the subway, had elaborate PR campaigns to instill that into the riders' minds as the progressive/superior thing to do "because this is what riders do in the West."
Many don't realize the West has been perpetually promoted as superior in Asia for decades by govt, corporate or local intelligentsia :)
Watched it all, took all day but did it and was worth it...
Love your work!
I made it to the end! Plus I enjoyed watching!🎉
So nice, thanks
Thanks STL.😊 Keep the long vids coming. ❤
Hi, really enjoying your content. I noticed when you were entering the MRT on Asoke you walked through a metal detector. What happens if you have medic implants, it's not safe you use them. Is there an option?
Planning a visit from BKK to Hua Hin in a couple of months - so thanks for the excellent information, exactly what I needed to know.
Nice to see you are Back in Thailand and now one hour long videos, are you telling me you're holding the phone all the time in your hand?
90% of my footage is made holding my now 3 year old android phone lol
@@SideTripLife wow you developed a special skill, never fell down?
@@biominerals wouldn't matter as my cam/phone has a builtin gimbal (only one like it;) plus Zeiss lens & F 1.5 which practically sees in the dark and all for half the price of an iPhone (which it beats the pants off imho). I do like my Macbook Air M1 for editing on the road tho, great machine and faster than M2 even.
Fyi, I always watch all of your videos. This one is quite amazing.
I appreciate that!
Brilliant, great watch, so much so going to watch it again. Its put my mind at rest for booking a ticket in advance, after watching this I would happy to travel any class.
Amazing job! Great info! Great talking! Superfriendly! I viewed it all in one time! Almost had tears! Keep on the good work! Regards from Belgium!!!!andy
Cheers Andy!
An hour long STL video? Merry Christmas to us!👏🏻👏🏻
The Thai beauty fashions at the train stations were great.
Love your videos! So informative & the perfect length. Thank you!
Thanks, much appreciated
Nice one my friend. God bless you.
39:58 .... exactly "the view I wanna see, you don't get these views on a bus or highway" ... plus the highways are quite dangerous. So many drivers drink or take amphetamine and love racing then. I prefer train by far as well. Thank you for your very nice videos !!!
Thanks for another great vid STL 👍 Keep them coming please 🙏
Ive been asking for longer videos and we finally got it. Great video always enjoy your content. I hope you continue with longer videos im always left wanting more lol.
Thanks!
That was a long one!! Haha.
Great video, love the old station, but everything changes I imagine.
