While I normally live with family when visiting BKK, I appreciate these types of budget option videos. It helps me with recommendations for friends and family that are visiting Thailand. 🙏
I just checked the price, its $43 for City view and $56 for River View that is good deal for sure, its not exactly in the best location but if you want to stay in BKK on a rush and need a nice place this should be good, I will chick it out on my next trip to BKK. I see your from YVR sir, me too, RMD. Great video
We just returned from the weeks in Thailand (mostly Koh Chang) to rainy Germany and already want to go back. Thanks for letting us have at least half an hour of good weather and wonderful life in Thailand!
@cryptocrusader6078 - Ans: as long as possible... failing this, a week would give an opportunity to explore the island plus just relax. Btw, my fav area on Koh Chang is: th-cam.com/video/xfPOAe5oI5U/w-d-xo.html @tubelev has just returned and could add more I'm sure.
@@cryptocrusader6078 we booked the first three days there in advance and thought we would go to Koh mak or Koh Kook after maybe a week. We stayed for 3 Weeks and would have stayed longer if there was a way. I can recommend the northern part of white sands beach, too. Our personal favourite was even north of rock sand beach, right after crossing (through!) the restaurant that stopped @sidetriplife from going further.
Really enjoyed the vid as I stayed at the Ibis Riverside on my last visit in November. I will say that the Ibis in Koh Samui beats it for comfort, beachside vibes, views and all round exceptional friendly staff. Either way, totally agree excellent accommodation options in Thailand for sure!!!
Discovered you a month ago, I’ve literarily watched all your videos!!! 👀. I just love the way you present things etc! A breath of fresh air from those who focus on the seedy side of things. Also it’s renewed my desire to spend an extended working holiday, maybe 2-3mths in Thailand to get away from UK dreary weather and people 🤪😂. Thx for all you do…👍🏾
Yes great hotel. I stayed there earlier this year. Super location!. Good food and bar. I loved sitting at that bar at night and watching all the tour boats go up and down the river.
Before I even watched the rest of the video I knew straight away that was the ibis hotel, been wanting to stay there sometime to check it out, I stayed at Chatrium Riverside back in 2015 and loved staying along the river
Whenever you say "hoser" it makes me chuckle and takes my mind back to Bob and Doug McKenzie and my childhood as a young lad growing up in California. Beauty eh!
Thanks for the tip. I just listened to it. Hilarious. BTW thanks for all of the vids. We're taking our first trip to Thailand in July. Only there for a week (BKK and Hua Hin) but it's for some recon as a place to retire. We're on a 7 year plan but hopefully we can speed it up. Health insurance is a concern but we are learning more about the great healthcare in Thailand. Cheers hoser! @@SideTripLife
STL you continue to put out top notch content at a fair price! Thoroughly enjoy all your videos for their content and your appealing presentation style. Keep up the good work Brother, u da man!
Great video, as usual. Thanks STL! 👍 I stayed once at the Chatrium Riverside: loved it and loved the fact that it had its own shuttle boat to Saphan Taksin. But the Ibis seems to be a great budget solution too! Btw, King Power MahaNakhon is not the tallest building in Bangkok anymore ; Magnolias Waterfront Residences Iconsiam that in fact you pointed with an arrow at 17:31 is, by 4 meters.
Thank you, also for the correction. So that's what those silly looking DQ facade pieces are for on top of the Magnolia's. For such an elite property, personally would've passed on the otherwise useless vanity accents and added rooftop viewing decks, possibly pools, or at least rooftop jacuzzi. Will take the excellent rooftop infinity pool + jacuzzi's at my former humble Urbano Absolute any day for a fraction of the price lol
Love your videos! My wife and I just got back from our first trip to Thailand two weeks ago. We sure wish this video had come out prior to our trip. We stayed at the Millennium Hilton. Obviously not as good a deal as the Ibis :) I do have status and some points we used so it was only expensive and not stupid expensive. We really loved our time in Bangkok and have already planned an extended trip back over there as the start of a year of slow travel starting next January. Keep up the great videos.
Another great video STL. Ibis looks excellent. We always stay in the Krungthep Wing at The Shangri La when in Bangkok. Highly recommended. Superb service, great location, amazing afternoon tea and evening cocktails included in the rate. Keep up the great work and no complaints if the films get longer! 😊
It went quick didnt feel like 30 mins. I stayed at the Ibis last June for a week. Like you thought its fantastic for price. Plus being an accor member I got river view plus dining discount. I loved eating outside on dusk 😍 I never used the boats but will next time now I know. Thanks for a great informative vlog as usual 🙏😍
Thanks. Fellow Accor member here and like all the brands (Ibis, Novotel, Mercure). Really one of the best run budget & mid-budget hotel chains anywhere.
I've stayed at the Bangkok $29 hotel a few times. The other hotel, I knew right away when I saw the pool and riverside seating area. I stayed there a few years ago, it was a great stay and I got great price. I don't book many international Ibis hotels anymore because they have a no cancelation policy. This Ibis does, but you pay an added cost. Strategic spot to ride on the BTS. I like how you include some of the local sights in your videos. Thank you.
If I have the correct Ibis Riverside the price increased to about $51 to $69 per night before taxes. I was going to stay a week there before visiting another city such as Chiang Mai and Koh Kood island.
I ended up reserving an Airbnb apartment for about the same price very close to the Ibis Riverside. Thank you for all of the maps and notes. I appreciate all of your videos. Well done.
I listen to a lot of videos, yours are always upbeat and chock full of important information. I just moved back to Thailand and things have changed quite a bit. Thanks for an unstressful video to watch.
ohh man..just recently came across your channel. very authentic & informative. Like the POV way & your voice is dope. I'm gonna binge watch all your BKK videos soon. This Is How You Give A City Tour!👌 I Learned Alot Of New Things Throughout This Video, And I've Watched A Ton Of Other Bangkok Video's. Also, I Appreciated The Maps, Prices & Narration, Thank You!
@SideTripLife I actually may book a night at that Ibis in May. I've got some friends coming in, but I'll beat them into BKK by a day, and I think it will be fun yo stay down by the river. I've always wanted to, but I'm just too cheap to pay for the more expensive hotels! 😁
This video was great and showed me you really have to learn how to get around! But you are a Pro there and I guess it will take time to learn but I cannot wait to come over! Thanks for all of the recommendations!
Thanks for sharing this area! I am into board games and there are a bunch of game cafes (seemingly) not too far from there, across the river. Cant' wait to get caught up on your latest vids:)
Always watching to the end! It's funny you mention Hong Naam at the start -- I was always fascinated when I was younger (in the 1970s) looking at home architectural plans of homes here in Australia (I'm sure elsewhere too), the toilet being marked as "WC" for Water Closet -- which is still how they are these days. That rather old terminology is still used. Loved seeing Lumphini Park area -- am looking forward to seeing it in person in a couple of months, as well as more of the river area -- only been there at night until now.
Great vid as usual. Love the views from the sky train. After your last video with all the westerners everywhere, I was thinking of maybe skipping BKK on my upcoming SEA travels but this one gave me a different perspective so will likely visit BKK again for first time since 81…
Such a fascinating video of the gorgeous cities and crazy pants affordability of beautiful living places. Love this video STL! We were just at the Shangri-La Hotel for 3 nights! (checked out on the24th heading back to San Francisco) Wish we had seen this video sooner… the Ibis Hotel looks pretty good for the price 😊 When did you film this? So glad you’re back in Thailand doing what you do best 😉 Hope to see more of your videos ❤
Often stayed at Marriott (now Anantara) Riverside, further down towards Krung Thep bridge. No matter how chaotic the office in Silom was, that boat ride from the skytrain to the hotel just wiped any stress away.
Anantara riverside is fabulous, hasn't skipped a beat since Marriott days. Enjoyed a couple staycations there when discounts were on. Next door the newish Avani (also a Heinecke/Minor Group property) has a fantastic rooftop pool and lounge with amazing river views esp at night.
Hello fellow Canadian. Enjoyed the video to the end. Great info as always. Thailand on my bucket list. Just waiting for that longer vacation that with allow me to go. Looking for the your next video. ,🇨🇦
Hi I will be arriving first time in Bangkok mid Oct. Great video, I find you are very good and knowledgeable about the city. It's not easy to find a good location or a good hotel. I'm from Quebec city. I very like to stay at the Ibis Riverside front hotel you showed in the video because there is the river, the temples to see. I was looking more near Lumpini Park or a little further starting On Nut and or near Chatuchak market. I want to spend at least 5 days because of jet lag and lots to visit up to 10 days. I want to find two hotels to try for sightseeing with a pool .Thanks for sharing 😊🙏🏼

hi mate I ended up booking the Naga next door so hopefully it's all good, we can use the Ibis pool apparently but I feel like I've got a great understanding of the area thanks to your video.
STL is doing a great job of convincing me that my end point should definitely bs SE Asia once I finish my travels in a few years. Keep up the awesome videos! :)
That biriyani chicken almost made me give up my carnivore diet. I guess I could go just the chicken...Hey you never filled the gap from Mentawai yet? Or did i miss something. Thanks for vid
Unfortunately few of my majority Thai-centric subs were following my Indo series so instead of spending countless hours editing my return journey I just binned it (plus other vids in the series, sadly). However, since I've been back and plugging the series in my Thai vids, suddenly the views are creeping up with many saying a belated 'wow'. Ah well....
Been binging your videos. Luv them all. Did you once say it took 8 hours to edit 1 blog. If so it certainly shows. Loved the one where you visited the beach resort managed by the famous Nadine of the real “The Serpent” series. Ive been looking for a for a long term lease for myself and another retired buddy of mine to share. I know II can find inexpensive “ Cheap Charlie” walk up rooms in Thai neighborhoods for $60/mo or nice houses/condos for $300. I really liked that 2 story/ 2 bedroom on the beach in PKK in one of your vids.
Another good one STL (insert human name here :) Looking forward to the next one with monthly stays. I've been on a Thai / Vietnamese cooking kick again here in Canada. Making a crap ton of green nam jim sauce, since I got a deal on a bag of limes. Its the food that always makes me want to go back. Commenting for the algorhythm.
Nice job YVR and I couldn’t agree more about tent cities in Canada. I’m renting on Suk 24 but will shift to the riverside in a few months. It’s like a different city over there. YYZ 🇨🇦
Sukhumvit is great in many ways, a pain in others. But like you say the riverside is a whole new world and a breath of fresh air comparatively. Love exploring all the riverside alleys etc (as we'll see upcoming;) Cheers, STL
Hay come on we've all been tourists 😅 until ya know you don't we all have to learn 😊 good informative vlog, im coming to Asia next week KL 1st then Bangkok so that hotel is on my list, so thanks, 👍✌️❤️😎🏴🇬🇧
We stayed at Centre Pointe Silom for the first few nights in Bangkok. We liked being near the ferry dock. Very convenient although the Ibis is much more reasonably priced. I'll check it out next time. Wish I'd know about the park just across the river when we were there. I loved using the ferries. The cool breezes are a nice break from the heat. Would you mind telling us what type of visa you have?
How long does it take for them to make a new passport? I have a year or so, but just curious. Vancouver Island retiree living down in Rayong, and loving it. Love you channel, and recommend it to all my friends.
Hi. They say 28 days but turned out only 15 or so. Think they build in some leeway time (smartly in case a backlog etc). Have loads of family up and down the island, can't beat it in the summer. Also love Rayong, enjoy eh! STL
Hi STL my husband are absolutely loving your vlogs. Thank you so much for giving us such great insight into travel/transport, restaurants and places to stay and more. My husband and i are thinking of traveling to and staying in Hua Hin in June. Do you think it would be too rainy. to stay in June.?
Its all about the luck. 2022 i was in June Thailand and the weather was very hot and not rainy. I cam e back last November until today was very good weather just few rainy days. Sometimes i miss it because so dry this country.
Thx @rolandr I can add that in 2023 June Hua Hin weather was also pretty dry & fair. Reason is the SW monsoon affects Phuket and Andaman Coast first and takes a while to fully progress up the Gulf. Thus less rain (initially) on the leeward/East Gulf coast, Samui/islands too

I was very happy to see a pet friendly hotel! I would love if you could include more pet friendly accomodations. I enjoy your commentaries!
Can't wait for your next video ... did you say "budget accommodation" ... 👍🏽

STL is doing a great job of convincing me that my end point should definitely bs SE Asia once I finish my travels in a few years. Keep up the awesome videos! :)
Another great video. Wasn't ready for it to end.

Ah well....
superb Vid capturing the everyday life in Bangkok plus a cool part of Town to stay
Love the hotel and surrounding area. Cant wait for the next video especially since I want to some day soon possibly live in Thailand.
great video as always thank you
Thank you for watching :)
Thanks STL good info. I might try the Ibis next time I am in BKK (probably next month)
Really enjoyed getting around BKK and so helpful for my next visit ! Loved the vibe
Alright, looking forward to it 👍🏻
Hay come on we've all been tourists 😅 until ya know you don't we all have to learn 😊 good informative vlog, im coming to Asia next week KL 1st then Bangkok so that hotel is on my list, so thanks, 👍✌️❤️😎🏴🇬🇧
haha yep, prob STL too at one time lol (said mostly tongue in cheek btw;) Enjoy your trip guys cheers!
Always love your videos, great job!
Always worth checking out a new passport under a UV light, seeing the hidden artwork is always a treat.
STL
@SideTripLife Thank you kind sir.
Some nice tips whilst in Bkk. Great hotel, great price. Only ever stayed at Lebua, special occasion. Always nice by the river👍
Another great video can't wait to get there.
Thus less rain (initially) on the leeward/East Gulf coast, Samui/islands too
Thank you so much for the information ❤
congrats on 100K subscribers....
You're THE best, brother, keep it up!
Like that Hotel I may make that my first hotel stop in Thailand later in the year. Thanks
Im just about ready to renew my and looking forward to the new Canuck passport.Maybe see you in the fall and have a coffee, retirement is soon lol
Ibis Riverside is my go-to hotel in Bangkok. Stay there often and love the area.
Thanks for the video. I just checked the prices for middle of April and they are indeed around $45. Will probably book a room.
Hi STL, Sepak Takraw used to be the Philippines National Sport. It is now replaced by Arnis.
Ahhhh, another contender, the Phils. I'm guessing Takraw origins were from China but all SE Asia claims it and deservedly as they all play it so well.
What time of year do you find the best, not raining, but still a little cooler. I’m from Kelowna
Beautiful passport, beautiful design
