- The Mini NES is small. Very, very small. Regardless of this fact Alex decided to have a go and see just what this thing can do, from the menus to the save states to the various display modes, he tackles some if not all of it with grace, élan, and poise. Apparently.

you're also allowed to buy an NES and play the important games on it long after that system's "era". seems a little silly to run a nintendo site without playing a nintendo.
Hi thanks for the video. I got my nes mini (thank god I preordered it from eb games in australia) & I purchased extension cables which solve the short controller cable problem. Console didn't come with a a/c adaptor but I am using my iPhone adaptor works great. NES mini is awesome. Hopefully nintendo will ship more as I don't think they realised how popular this little marvel of a console would be.

Rafael Q. I don't think you could as the port is the same as a nunchuck/classic controller port for the wii remote.

I finally got my hands on an NES classic!! I had to work for it though!!
Pre ordered mine ages ago. Looking forward to playing this with my son. It's nostalgic and memories to pass on. Great times.
I'm disappointed they went with the "NES version" of Super Mario 3 than the *improved version* of Super Mario 3 which was part of the "Mario All-Starts" game on the SNES (same mistake they did when releasing Super Mario 3 on the Wii U virtual console as well). - _ -
Well, the whole point here is that it's a NES system so all the games are the NES versions. But, hopefully they do a SNES Classic Mini at some point and include Super Mario All-Stars as one of the games.
They had no announcements for one at the time.
Also, Super Mario All Stars was released for Wii some years back.
Jay L Because WHY would you release an "inferior" version when there is a BETTER version of it? Also, there are no indications of a "SNES Mini" anytime soon and EVEN IF we assume they make one, I think it is lame to ask people to play Super Mario 3 again on the SNES Mini just because it has a "better" version on it after they had already played it a ton on the NES.
Just because this is a celebration of the old NES, that doesn't mean they can't include the "definitive" version which was released later on the SNES on it (it's not like there are any "technology limitations" that prevent them from doing so).
In fact, this would have been better of as a "NES/SNES" hybrid that contains the best games from both systems rather than narrow it to the NES system only and including the "inferior" version of games on it. Smh.... - _ -
***** I'd argue the SNES versions really are the definitive versions, but this is supposed to be a proper NES system like you said so I don't expect to see them here. If Nintendo put's out a SNES Classic Edition, however . . .

This is a cool collectors piece...but for me, I'll stick with my Retrousb adapter (the best driverless USB adapter) and a real NES controller with PC emulation on my 55" LED TV only 4 feet away my chair. I have my childhood collection as well as instant access to games like the Japanese castlevania 3. No need for an expensive framemeister either. I don't really play through these games to 100% completion...it's like a 20 min binge then into something else. Folks would be hard pressed to tell the difference between PC clock emulation vs Nintendo's emulation vs the original hardware.

You want a WIRELESS NES? You don't look like you are old enough to have been alive in the 80's, but back then the only "wireless" we had was when we were playing this so much that your mom cut the cord on your controller so that she could have the TV back.
A lot of kids who consider themselves retro or Nintendo fans who grew up after the NES/SNES era and only played the rereleases on other platforms are going to be in for a shock or be disappointed if they didn't play these games in emulation on a PC.
I find the controls too slippery to play Kirby's Adventure on Wii U. Are the controls less slippery on the Classic?

It's a shame how limited it is, it is certainly functional, but there is much to be desired. I'll stick to PC emulation.
For a guy who runs a channel called Nintendo Life, your knowledge and the fact you don't have a NES or have never had one, is so poor!
It's actually the same size as the original. It's just that most of us are a lot bigger now than when we used to play it.
That is the NES version of DK. It was actually in arcades first and it had a level in it the NES version left out. There are some other small changes as well.
it's a pain after pre-ordering this back in July, then seeing loads of people get it weeks early. Especially for free to review.
The menu layout is pretty cool, but wow is that cord short! it needs triple that length! Or have a controller released that can be used wirelessly!

i still have my original Nintendo entertainment system. would still buy it. its ashame its not loaded with turtles and RoboCop and batman games they are the best. also Youre review isn't great.
can it do cheats? like infinite health and one hit kills? is there cheats like that for Wii u virtual console
